How big of a difference is it really? I cant really tell from the video

It cuts the pattern size by about half and with the smaller leverage ratio increases the effort needed for the divider between the Reverse/Low section and the main forward gears.

Did this to my truck and I really like it, shifts stick a lot better and I can slam through gears a bit quicker

Holy shit man shift that trans into the gear marked 1st “which is actually 2nd” directly before shifting into reverse, your Synchronizers will thank you.

@@crankshaft1053 because then it will go into first/reverse nice and easy. The older four speed transmissions respond very nice shifting in that way but it does wonders for five and six speed transmissions as well

Hi everyone, i gotta a question, somewhat ignorant, but i gotta know. I've test drove an old chevy malibu recently and the owner said it had a shift kit installed. Now i didn't ask what type and model and what not, i ll find out after. But can anyone tell how does the car shift with the shift kit installed on an automatic transmission? When i test drove the guy's car, it was knocking quite hard when shifting in from Park to 1st. Like i could almost feel the knocking vibration going all the way to my seat. The guy said it was normal. Also when shifting into Reverse also had quite hard knocking sensation. While driving it didn't seem to shift hard. I've read quickly that shift kits do make transmissions shift harder, but i wasn't able to find out what "harder" actually means. Can anyone with experience define his understanding of harder? And if what i described above seems normal.
    Thanks for you feedback

Auto trans that have a torque converter, use hydraulic pressure to hold the friction plates together and shift gears. Less pressure makes the shifts smoother and slower, but applies less clamping force to the friction discs, so it makes more heat and wear do to the slipping. A shift kit ups the pressure, and makes the shifts faster and harder to increase performance and lower wear on the frictions and create less heat. The drawback (for comfort) is the bump when it shifts. Newer electronic controlled auto trans can do most of this with a programer, pre electronic trans used shift kits.
The idle on the malibu could have been too high as well.

using THAT logic means the nv4500 is a 4 speed, and nv5600 is a five speed???. dumb...the zf6 is a six speed due to having 6 foward gears. just like the other six speeds put in diesels. it has a very comparable 1st gear ratio, do your research before posting

No shit Sherlock it only tells you right in the fucking knob? You can call it a 5 speed with granny low or a 6 speed doesn’t fucking matter…Considering this guy installed a shift kit in his truck I’d say he knows more than a clown on YT trying to sound intelligent

@@jesusisalive3227 well idk where “around here” is but either way you can Ho ahead and let all those folks know that they’re wrong, it’s a Four speed Trans, of it makes you feel better you can call it a Four Speed with Granny or a Four speed Bulldog trans but no matter how you look at it it’s a four speed. However many different forward gear ratios a trans has is how many “speeds” it has, that’s how it works wether it’s a two speed Powerglide or an 18 speed Eaton Fuller.
