This was when Power Rangers started to become more like Super Sentai in terms of its storylines becoming very similar (such as the young brother taking the sword after the apparent death of the older brother), as well as each season having its own team and story.
Of course, there are differences, such as the petrification of Mirinoi and Ginga Forest (the latter we won't see until the following episode). In "Lost Galaxy", the petrification is caused by the villain in response to being unable to acquire the Quasar Sabers, while in "Gingaman", it's caused by the village elder to prevent Ginga Forest's energy from being used to revive Daitanix. Both petrifications are reversed in their respective finales (Mirinoi due to the return of the Quasar Sabers and Ginga Forest due to the defeat of Zahab).
And for those unaware, Furio in "Lost Galaxy" was actually the monster form of Dr. Hinelar from the final episode of the prior Sentai series, "Megaranger".

Second one was more impactful and emotional. The pirate villain had a cool design and weapons. The heroes had cool abilities as well and looked like live action anime.

I think Lost Galaxy was the overall better out of the two. Two totally different shows using the same footage though.

Sometime I kid about Lost Galaxy being called Power Rangers Starship Troopers not because they're re-using the same suits as used in Starship Troopers but also because of the irony of the writing in the series. I mean the Rangers are in space and their main villain theme is bugs so some might call it a coincidence but idk about that.
One thing that many might ask is why did Saban changed the theme of the Gingaman's villians from pirate themed to a space bug theme. There are some that point out it's mostly because of the pirate theme in Gingaman. Think about it why didn't Saban mention Super Megaforces adaption of Gokaiger's theme as pirate themed? Idk I think many have different opinions by this.
The monster in the PR Lost Galaxy is actually a recycled suit of Dr. Hinelar final form from Sentai's Megaranger. Because PR In Space never used the monster in the previous series I guess use it now while you can.
Even though both series first appearances are so different, a few things that PR Lost Galaxy did copy from Gingaman of course is both characters brothers falling into a ravine, both Rangers fighting style utilized by their animal theme.

      1. They were cheap, so they were easy to get.
      2. I had a theory about this before got the official explanation: Pirates back then (unless you watched Captain Harlock) were seen as generic bad guys and Plex thought that wouldn't sell for an international audience. (One piece was just starting out in Japan and having not seen an anime adaptation yet TV or otherwise, and Disney did not pull one of its Park rides onto the big screen until the year 2003) Gokaiger was made in a post- Romanticism era where pirates were already romanticized, but the producers decided to chase the casual crowd who refused to watch anything MMPR (and sometimes Zeo) not realizing that they're only going to watch those shows. But the official reason: the actual main villains costumes from Gingaman were actually unavailable due to the V Cinema crossover with Megaranger being filmed at the time after production wrapped up just needing the creation of the Scorpius Army as a substitute for Captain Mutiny's Crew who most likely would have been the main villain throughout Lost Galaxy.
      3. Two of Megaranger (including Dr. Hinelar) were combined to make Astronema, hence why there was no use of the monster suit in PR in Space. (Also due to absences of the costumes of the Gingaman villains)
      4. The series then-producer, Jonathan Tzachor had an obsession with making the series more like Super Sentai. Even without the nature/knight theme, still technically would be a take on the Excalibur legend, although we wouldn't get an actual knight team again until 2020. (This the first to actually feature space knights) This the problems really began on Turbo but were kept at Judd Lynn and Jackie Marchland until Time Force where one of them left, and then the lamest season of the original 10 (and the only one to be produced by Disney, It has Saban's name by obligation), Wild Force aired, yep it was a one to one adaptation of it's Super Sentai, Gaoranger with a few exceptions. (Basically it was the Samurai of it's time, the previous season, Time Force was more like Jungle Fury where it actually bothered to actually make changes for PR to MAKE sense in PR) However, the series would nearly canceled and be put into syndication by Disney although multiple times until 2008 and even then they actually reneged on that cancellation with RPM going into production although they found a way to sabotage That one!

Seriously, what is up with Saban and their hatred with pirates! 🏴‍☠️ They screwed up the Gokaiger adaptation.
