Haltering a llama using the wand and catch rope method

Some llamas are very nervous of ropes and halters. If you have difficulty in getting your llama to stand when you approach with a catch rope then it can sometimes be a better idea to loop the catch round around her using the wand with clip . This girl also has a fear of seeing the halter in front of her face and therefore prefers me to slide it up from under her chin, but with most llamas I would hold it out openly and lift it gently onto her nose. Its llamas / horses for courses ! ( but never llamas for dramas !! ) By giving her gentle T-Touch to her face and head , and all the areas where the halter will touch, I can help to make her more confident, and encourage her to lower her head for me. My reward comes if she will trustingly rest her head in my hand , and then proceed to let me halter her , whereas just ten days ago all she wanted to do was to play chase round the pen !
