Hey everyone I just now posted my reaction to the last part of this trilogy of lights. It was the song Arkadia, and even with the watermark it got blocked. I'm not sure why because it's from the same show as the Starlight video I reacted to from the reactors resource channel, and that one didn't get blocked. I'm leaving it posted in hopes that they'll unblock it. That's happened a couple of times before. If they leave it blocked I'll have no choice but to post it on my patreon page. Keeping my fingers crossed.

you reaching out this trilogy so fast, that's awesome Bobby, thanks for sharing this.
We know that our princess of Nagoya MoaMetal can play the guitar for sure, but in this occasion might be for aesthetic reason, just like our queen SuMetal playing the piano recently at 10 Budokan concerts, still beautiful and with that solo dance she can take your breath away.

  • @papa_xan
    @papa_xan Před 2 lety +26

You're correct in that Moa wasn't playing the guitar live. The guitar was more of a prop for this performance, as it possibly was one of Mikio's guitars. This particular performance with only Su and Moa is just such a beautiful moment. All other performances of this song have one of the Avengers in it, so this is really unique.

    • @JustAnotherReactor

To be perfectly up front about it, nobody has been able to link that model of acoustic guitar to one Mikio used. What it represented is up to the viewer, since Babymetal has not spoken of it directly, but Shine was written with an acoustic guitar opening and this is how they chose to stage it for the song's debut at LEGEND M, the pair of concerts for Moa's coming of age birthday in her home town.

Nice reaction. They asked Moa if she wanted to play for the show and she said no she would be to nervous. So I've been told. It looked cool and she didn't play it for the recording. The acoustic part comes up later and she's not playing. Babymetal doesn't really try to fake anything. They'll let you know this was only for show. Like when they had Babybones playing the instruments. If you really looked you can tell they're not playing. Swinging those guitars around too much. But here Moa is just getting her time in the spot light. A special performance for a special birthday for a special monster lady of metal Moa. When Su steps out on to the stage I think every Babymetal fan could feel their connection. Shining is some kinda special Babymetal power they get for their birthdays. Babymetal can make fun songs and they can do serious subjects as well. Babymetal has proven themselves to be well beyond being the one trick pony folks first took them for.

I love every single second of the Legend M performance of "Shine". And specially all the choreo and Su's vocals on the center part right before the breakdown. I believe as well that the output of Moa's acoustic guitar was not on the live mix. But it's unique and very important because it's apparently one of Mikio's guitars. Takayoshi Ohmura inherited all Mikio's guitars from his wife and then he sold his matching ones and keep Mikio's, his sensei and, most important, his best friend.
The final scene with Su and Moa walking out the stage towards an eclipse is also meaningful. The Sun and the Moon aligning can be interpreted as a recurrent metaphor of the alignment between Su (Sun) and Moa (Moon) after all what happened in 2017 and 2018. Representing that they decided to go on as a duo and also making their bond even stronger (as they have said many times).
Fasten your seatbelt for "Arkadia"! 😎

The scenes with the lights in the audience always make me emotional. To see so many people contribute to the atmosphere is awesome, and it fits the song, too.

  • @TotalRandomReviews
    @TotalRandomReviews Před 2 lety +6

I have heard a lot of things, she played it, she didn't, whatever, it doesn't really matter, it was a great performance! It really adds to the song. If the speculation and rumors are correct then it is truly a very emotional and meaningful performance for these 2 and the band.
Speculations and rumors being that the song is a continuing tribute to Milkio, the guitar either is Mikios guitar, its a replica or its the guitar that Mikio taught Moa how to play guitar on and finally, Takayoshi Ohmura (the guitarist you often see with the sparkly pink guitar) was gifted Mikios favorite guitar by Mikios wife after his passing as not only was Mikio Ohmura's teacher but very close friend and you see him playing it very briefly in this video.
I've said this before, none of this has ever been confirmed by BABYMETAL but non of it has been disputed either. (to my knowledge at least) I personally like to believe it is all true and if that ends up being incorrect, that is ok too. The songs in the trilogy of light will be unchanged for me and just as impactful.

excellent content Bobby-Metal, this Legend M performance(for Moa's 20th birthday) still stirs the feels within me, actually the trilogy has only ever been played together in order live once, and that was at the Legend Metal Galaxy day 2, with the 3 person formation, Moa and the avenger without the guitar still do a stunning dance together until the Goddess rises from the smoke to start singing. It all just is further evidence, that this band is the best ever.

Lots of feels in this one.
The eclipse at the beginning and end of this song are strongly reminiscent of the apocalypse symbol they used during their "Dark Side" in 2018.
Even the BABYMETAL flags were replaced with the apocalypse versions.
The guitar and two person choreography for 'Shine', was just for two concerts known as 'BABYMETAL ARISES - BEYOND THE MOON - LEGEND - M -'.
These July 2019 shows celebrated Moa's 20th birthday in her home town of Nagoya in Aichi prefecture.

Great reaction. I have no idea if Moa was playing the guitar live or not, whether she pre-recorded it or whatever. It doesn't really matter as what she was doing was all part of the spectacle and made this a very special performance of 'Shine'.
I knew from the little bit of shaky fancam I saw when they did this that it was going to be one of my favourite songs and performances ... I wasn't wrong. There is a lot of symbology in this starting with the guitar - maybe it was one of Mikio's, it may just be one that is the same model as one of his. In the context of the Trilogy this song is about coming to terms and accepting a loss, so if it is about Mikio (no we don't know, but for me it does all fit) then the way they turn at the end and walk away, leaving the guitar on the stage is emphasising that acceptance and that it is time to move on ... which is what 'Arkadia' is about.
I love this song, it is probably my favourite Su-metal vocal and Moa's harmonies complement her so well.
You said before about all the light up neck braces they used for the audience at Tokyo Dome. At Legend S everybody was given a mask with a light. The lights in this one were gauntlets everybody was given to wear and they held them up to create the effect you saw here.

It was pretty thoroughly discussed on reddit at the time and the vast majority consensus was that Moa was not playing..at least the audio was not recorded from the guitar she was playing here. You can clearly hear the Pick strikes on the strings in the audio while Moa is simply strumming with her thumb. Completely different sounds..and she was only strumming downward with no return which just could not make the sounds that were in the audio.
Still made me cry when I saw it the first time, thinking of Mikio.

Nice & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。Talking about the Moa's guitar play, I believe she can play but did not on this stage. As you can see, she was putting on artificial nails as a part of the costume and she was not using a pick for strumming. More importantly, as Grington300 300 and other viewers commented below, this song is a tribute to Mikio (RIP). The guitar in the center was an essential symbol of this song which should be touched by Moa and should be danced by the two girls for. The choreo with only Su & Moa was very special because they two went through the sorrowful experience (and East Kamis in the back did, as well).
We may see a hope amid a tough transition of life. It may look feeble like "a mere bit of light" at the beginning but it could gradually intensify the luminance. When Su & Moa left the stage, they were looking forward with the memory of and gratitude to Mikio.

There is no doubt these girls are the real deal. Su’s voice is spectacularly good. Moa says she did “play guitar” at this gig. Whether it was what we heard or not is irrelevant.
I think this might be the most emotional (for them,) performance of any individual song . The fact it was Moa’s 20th birthday gig makes it even more moving with just the two of them on stage, like they were when it was Su’s 20th a couple of years before. Su said Moa made that gig special for her and that Moa always made a fuss over her birthday and that she, Su, was determined to make Moa’s special in return. Keep up the good work glad you like BABYMETAL they are such a refreshing dose of joy.

While I personally don't consider _Metal Galaxy_ to be their best album, it does have some gems and _"Shine"_ is one of them. This song has become one of my favorite BABYMETAL tracks in their entire catalog.
I love the incorporation of the acoustic guitar (which I believe is a first on any BABYMETAL song) and how it adds a kind of solemn feel that perfectly contrasts the more uplifting sound of the chorus. I'm especially fond of the way the song uses silence to a great effect. The brief moments where the sound cuts out before reemerging again (particularly after that emotional climax in the bridge), truly enhances the powerful feeling that the song is attempting to convey. And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention how beautiful and sincere Su's vocal performance is on here. Just a great song overall, in my opinion.

Yeah they do this kind of stuff but it is never meant to deceive it is just part of putting on a show. Also the childrens choir you mentioned is actually our lovely birthday girl but many layers to give this effect they used this on a lot of this album probably to keep that simalar sound that used to be harmonies of Yui and Moa that makes up that Babymetal sound that we have come to expect.

I think beyond the fact it's called the Trilogy of Lights you should be made aware that it's also BABYMETAL's epic tale journey of grief; suffering from it, overcoming it and then turning it all into a positive mindset going forward, cherishing the memories of those we lost because "they'll always shine in our hearts."
That makes the whole "Shining in my heart. Shining in your heart. Shining forever." ending lyrics all that more powerful, especially the way Su sings it.
Great reaction as always, I seem to only be watching yours nowadays xD.
PS: about Moa, she was obviously not the one strumming the chords you hear, you can clearly hear the pick there, but she seems to be still "playing" the right chords. So my feeling is she may have been like super low in the mix or whatever but the point wasn't to deceive people into thinking she did play. It was indeed more for show. Remember most people believe Starlight to be a tribute to Mikio in a way but the Trilogy of Lights is also a grief journey. The guitar on display most people agree seem to atleast be a model close to the one Mikio used to own. On top of that, Legend M was Moa's 20th birthday concert so her "playing" the guitar was a bit of a nice touch considering the fans know she's a guitar fan. Maybe not a great one, but a guitar player nonetheless. I take it as a tribute to both Mikio and Moa's love of guitar. Maybe even a private touch for the moments Mikio would've not doubt showed Moa some guitar tricks :). Who knows !

On the guitar, yeah don't worry everyone knows it is not her. They made it for the show and the homage to Mikio, probably. Mikio had a very similar training guitar, so as Moa was learning it might be that he was teaching her with this one. Mikio was a guitar teacher that was introduced into Babymetal by Ohmura, who had been his student before, so he was probably teaching the ladies to play the guitar. Yui was also learning guitar at some point.
But yeah, it's not like this is the musician faking playing it, that's something i would not approve. Moa is a dancer, not a guitar player, and this is just part of the show and everyone knows it. Even if she can play the guitar a bit (look how focused she is into touching the correct notes) she is a dancer, not a world class guitar player that is what a band the quality of Babymetal demands.

The guitar which Moametal plays is a replica if not is one of Mikio Fujioka acoustic guitar 🎸. It represents the Analogy of Mikio Fujioka who passed away and Yuimetal who left Babymetal. Until beyond that light
It will continue to an endless
Even though get lost in the darkness
    With a little light
    Over this hand
    My heart cried, but
It doesn't matter if it's crushed
    It's because that dazzling light
    Will illuminates us
    Shining sky, let's fly
    Shining road, everywhere
Far away that journey in the sky
    Far away that sky
    Shining light, let's go
    Shining road, everywhere
Beyond space and time, to an eternal journey
Beyond space and time, for reach that
    Shining in my heart
    Shining in your heart
    Shining forever

Reading some info on reddit and from people talking it may seem that Moa did play the guitar but the guitar is not actually heard but the backing track for it. So it's used as appearance and to symbolize the song dedicated to Mikio and that he is in the center. Song is about grief and how to get over it and how they are going through bunch of emotions and trying to let go and also move on. Starlight is more chaotic like your crying out in tears like someone died and your trying to process what happened. Saying he is in better place now and that his legacy will be remembered. Shine so shows that he wil be remembered with the guitar and the influence on everyone on what he did with his legacy.

the weird part of Babymetal is ... you can actually imagine the girls just sit on the stage drinking tea while listening their song and many people still want to pay to come and watch that.

    It's Mikio's guitar...

It is hard to tell about Moa playing guitar or not, but I think it is totally possible. You can see in this video from the past czcams.com/video/sK11M1LqD1s/video.html Yui and Moa having props guitars, and while obviously faking to play, it is clear that Yui is at a complete loss, but Moa seems to be much more at ease mimicking what the actual guitarist does. And this was many years ago, so if she got an interest in playing the instrument, it is completely plausible that she would be able to play the relatively easy melody in this video nowadays.

Actually, to play those chords you don't need to know how to play the guitar well. With someone to teach you and a little practice, anyone could do it. So I suppose he was actually playing it, but it doesn't matter too much either, it's just a visual part of the show.

Moa actually knows how to play since when she was a kid, and mikio taught her a little bit as well, that guitar in the video is one of mikio's guitar too.

When I saw Moa plucking the strings with a guitar, I thought Moa was too beautiful.

The very best version of Shine and a shame that Koba didn't keep it as is, instead switching back to a threesome peformance.
BTW, you aren't the only 50+ headbanger that ever envisioned they would be a huge fan of a band like BabyMetal. This even after I laughed off their first YT clip - the infamous "White t-shirt guy" vid of Doki-Doki Morning.

I doubt anyone will come after you for this. Nobody does what BABYMETAL does. Think about it, really… who? I’m not saying they’re better than anybody else, we all have our favorites, cool… “just” saying they’re unique. I put it in quotes, because really it is quite a claim. I don’t get mad at any band, just turn them off, and what turns me off the most is when bands perform the same basic song over multiple albums. Don’t care if they’re actually playing it themselves… what I do care about is the music. I see BABYMETAL as a show, a production, and Su and Moa as characters… Sakura Gakuin did very well with the selection of their members.

You Can't Always Get What You Wantからの伝統を感じて、私もロックミュージックの素晴らしさとその継続を思います。
    It was a wonderful reaction.
However, many reactors in the West are wondering if moa and yui are really playing guitar, but I feel that question is disrespectful to them, especially when it comes to Babymetal.
If you look at the long history of their performances, the girls have been playing really hard, whether it be dance or instrumental, and they have always wondered if they would be able to get their final source material adopted.
In this song, Shine, moa was holding the exact chords and must have practiced her guitar strokes. However, the guitar was fixed on the stage as a gimmick, and there were some difficulties such as dancing right after the guitar stroke, which is why I decided to record it. There is a limit to what you can do on stage. I don't think it's fair to ask so much from young girls.
I think moa has actually been practicing on the guitar and can play the intro to this song. It's just that it's not adopted. I think we don't need to have that kind of discussion anymore, especially when it comes to Babymetal.
This Deep Blue guitar looks just like the one Mikio used to play.
Also, the children's chorus that is used a lot in this trilogy of light, I feel the tradition from Rolling Stones' You Can't Always Get What You Want, and I also think of the greatness of rock music and its continuation.
