      ERFGT DSFSDF, it’s not possible to pick this type of lock without a purpose-built tool. Although he designed this tool, he doesn’t make money from it. I think he’s just proud of his accomplishment.

      @@erfgtdsfsdf6993 disc locks cant be picked ordinary tools, you need a pick exclusively for them because of how the locking mechanism works, theres no pin to push, you need to rotate individual discs in an incredibly sensitive manner, that's why he uses that tool he made. The two arms of the device are to tension and rotate, so when the discs are all in place it turns easily, and the shaft makes it easy to slide between and rotate each disc without compromising the tension at all, its honestly an incredibly ingenious design.

    I have one of those - there are two minor flaws : I find them tricky to handle with gloves and without you always end up with brake dust / dirt on your hands. 2 : the case of the cord running to the handle bar (the lemon yellow rubber ring) is plastic and very fragile. You drop the lock on the floor and the case can open, releasing the spring and the cord : good luck getting everything back together. It doesn't impact the actual lock system.

      I have this lock. Been using it for 7 years, on a bike that sits outside under a cover and gets a ton of rain. No issue, ever. Spray it once a year, never clean it. The rubber bumper is a bit loose, but doesn't really matter. Best lock I've owned, ever.

      @@Yvolve I'm in the exact same situation. Bike sitting outside under a cover with no shelter, unfortunately. However, I'm still quite new at this and worry that the bike would actually be damaged by the rain and humidity (under the cover). Do you have advice / recommendation / feedback? Thanks :)

    • @Yvolve
      @Yvolve Před 3 lety +7

      @@tsubarider13 If you have a good cover, that is soft on the inside, it won't hurt the paint. Unless you're somewhere where corrosion is an issue, it should be fine. Many people I know park it under a cover and I live in a fairly cold but humid climate.
      Bikes are built to take a beating, I've parked mine on the top of the dune when I worked at the beach for months. I live about 20 minutes away and no issue with rust. They're like cars, which can take sitting in the rain for years.
      If you're unsure, get a cover with a vent at the top, but it shouldn't be an issue unless you've got a lot of bare metal showing, or it gets super wet under the cover.
      The main thing is to get a black cover and lock your rear tire to a solid object. The rear is harder to remove than the front. Thieves have to cut the chain to take it, which takes planning or time. Along with a good disc lock on the front, you'll stop the thief looking for an opportunity. If someone has planned to specifically steal your bike, there's not much you can do. I've seen them stolen from locked, CCTV garages in busy areas. My friend had her Audi A3 RS steering wheel stolen three times in six months. Theft on order is a thing unfortunately.

    • @TobyBNook
      @TobyBNook Před 4 lety +12

      I don’t know if a bike thief would carry a roll of tape with them unless it was a targeted attack. I don’t usually have tape with me when I’m out for a walk, coming home from work or in a hurry to get somewhere but maybe you guys do and I’m just out of the loop. Or I just don’t know the circumstances of bike theft well enough. I think it’s still a pretty good design feature on an already good lock.

    • @katherinemorelle7115
      @katherinemorelle7115 Před 4 lety +14

      Toby B. Nook thieves generally (smart ones) would carry tape around- makes it easier to get into windows.
      Which reminds me of something I would tell prospective clients when I worked at a Locksmith- they’d be calling to organise someone to give them a quote for a high end security system. More than happy to spend $10k plus on this robust system.
      And I’d ask “so, do you have single glazed or double glazed windows?”
      Them: just single, normal windows, why?
      Me- you might want to fix that first. I can send around my boys to install the best security system money can buy, but it’s not much use if all you need to get in is to break a window with a rock.
      I had that conversation a few times. Also, having to tell people that if a thief is determined enough, they will eventually get in. Big locks and cameras and other security stuff works more as a deterrent than anything else. Funnily enough, my honesty didn’t lose us any sales (especially after I pointed out that it’s easier to lock a safe than a house, and we sold safes). I just couldn’t justify letting some poor old man (figuratively) spend possibly ten thousand or more on a security system that is so easy to get around. And if I sent a Locksmith out, he would have told the client the same thing I did.
