Yeah, that list at the beginning doesn't even begin (pun not intended) to showcase the richness of the portuguese culinary. You can only find many dishes that are normal to the locals either by accident or through someone who knows them. Portugal is full of culinary hidden gems. 🙂
If I had to translate "papas" to something you could recognise, it would be porridge.

Yes! My favorite is actually chicken blood rice 😍. I’ve never seen that on the menu anywhere, but my mother-in-law makes it realllllll good! 🤤

@@kimchilifeabroadchicken blood rice is known as Cabidela or Pica no Chão. I believe restaurants are not allowed to make that dish on account of using chicken blood, dont ask me why.

The premise is great, and the video looks great. I was interested. As soon as I heard you mentioning 'Ponte de Lima' as a place you'll probably never visit unless you want to eat good traditional Portuguese food, I knew you really knew your stuff!
Being Portuguese and Minhoto myself, those are the two secret spots that you only know if you grew up here or have lived here for a while 😁

    OMG Arroz de Sarrabulho!

Thank you!! I can’t take any credit for knowing my stuff 😅 we just go where my in-laws tell us to go! They always know the best food spots and secretly I think they have fun introducing me to Portuguese foods bc I eat EVERYTHING, unlike their own son (my husband) 😂🤣

If you want to know more Portuguese dishes I would recommend you this ones: Tripas de Aveiro (it's like crepe but with a waffle texture), tibias de Braga (literally the Portuguese éclair but invented before the éclair), lampantana (sheep meat slow cooked), chanfana, bochechas de porco bisaro, sandes de rojões, sopa de cachola. If you want something that combines more with the Korean taste I would recommend you petinga, jaquinzinhos, choco frito de Setúbal, naco na pedra, pão de ló de Ovar

Well you tried two very famous dishes from Minho region, one from Ponte de Lima the other from Braga. Personally i dont eat papas with rice, its filling enough by it self and the rojões. ps. these dishes are winter food, you would not find papas in Braga this time of year but you can eat Bacalhau à moda de Braga and duck rice. for desert a pudim Abade de Priscos. Nice video btw. 😋

Neither of those dishes are from the towns you mentioned.
Arroz de Sarrabulho is from the area between the Minho and Lima rivers.
Papas de Sarrabulho from anywhere North of Porto up to the Northern area of the Cavado River but do not penetrate inland into Montalegre.
Cities do not own regional dishes. They are regional.

The 2 restaurantes he took you are the most generic places anyone could immagine.
Both Encanada in Ponte de Lima and Abadia in Amares are toursit traps with the later having lost massive quality across time.
You will be much better served almost anywhere else in Ponte de Lima while Abadia doesn't meet it's own standards anymore. Hundreds of restaurants serve better Sarrabulho.
And then, yes. This is a winter dish. It wasn't made in summer since recently because of emmigrants in vacation and now tourists.

Who cares about that! Are you really counting calories when going for a regional dish or traditional pastry? Then you won't be able to eat almost anything. This is about flavour, about gastronomic culture. And you can perfectly fit a Bola de Berlim in your diet if it is a balanced one throughout your whole week. This is not a fitness video. And this comment comes from someone who do consistent workouts and registers macros. There's more to life than calories.
