IMO, the 05-06 season saved SNL. The early 2000s were dismal and there were so many underwhelming cast members and hosts, along with some very weak ass writing. Bill, Andy, Jason, Kristen, and Kenan breathe new life into the show, especially Andy and the lonely Island crew as their digital shorts fill the void of TV Funhouse, which was honestly becoming stale, and in the process made SNL relevant in time for the rise of CZcams.

We really took this golden era of SNL for granted. I was in high school at the time, and the show was actually relevant and exciting to teenagers.
Most of the cast went on to be such massive stars, it’s crazy to remember a time when they were all together, and SNL was the biggest thing they were known for.
I know that almost every era of SNL (aside from the 80s) has had people saying “it sucks now”, and then the era becomes legendary in retrospect, but I think it really does actually suck now. I can’t imagine people looking back on the past 5 years of the show with any kind of fondness.
