I owned a '62 Fairlane, 2 door, white, as pictured. 221 ci., 2 speed auto. The smoothest small block Ford I ever drove!

My grandfather had a 62 coupe with a 390/ automatic. He loved that car. We lived in western PA, so it sadly rusted away.

Ford had used the “XL” previously on the 1953 Lincoln XL-500 concept car.

My mom's first car was a 62 4-door Galaxie in something like a burnt Orange/Red-ish.

The 62 Ford line is often overlooked by collectors for the more popular 63s...The Starliners are my favourite !

@romemancer7905, the Starliner model was only produced for the 1960 and 1961 model years - it didn't exist for the 1962 model year.

I have a 62 Thunderbird corinthian white hardtop that came out of the factory on September 11, 1961.

Dad bought a light blue 2 door Fairlane April 1962. 6 cylinder/3 on the tree. I was only 4 years old but remember the dealer delivering it. At some point Mom cracked it into a tree, so Dad put curb feelers on it. Also put in gauges under the dash. He only kept the car 3 years - said it rode hard (only 13 inch wheels).

    Thanks Adrian,
I came across a beautiful XL 2 dr hardtop in white with the stunning red bucket seat interior about a year ago.
I wasn't a big fan of the '62 models back in my younger days, but my oh my did she look fantastic sitting at the gas pump, gleaming in the morning sun. Always been a Ford man but it's funny how your preferences change as you get a little older.
Your thumbnail for example. That one really caught me off guard...👍🏁

My dad had a 1962 galaxie 500 I'm almost sure that it had a 289 with a three on the tree. I'm not really sure about the engine size but I'm sure the three of the tree with no air conditioning. I'm still the brown odor of his 1973 Thunderbird which is pretty much and damn near showroom condition and I love it with a 460 with four barrels it goes faster than the handling characteristics will allow! I apologize for any mistakes it's speech to text.

Here in Texas, most of the large vehicles came from the Dallas Texas plant and had a sticker on the back glass that said, "Made in Texas by Texans." Not sure what year the plant in Dallas closed but will google it.

I will never go to Texas or buy anything from Texas or Florida . Texas and the Bushes , Florida and Gigantis are beyond ALT right and are dangerous . Thanks to the Politicans that took away A STRONG CENTRAL GOVERNMENT .

Was the 221cid v8 introduced with the '62 Fairlane intro?

I think the falcon four speed was a Dagenham unit

  • @pamwilson1653

221 V8 is not mentioned, also the rarest of the rare 62 starlift how many were produced and available to the public for a fact there was one tooling around in 68 or 69 in Elyria Ohio a classmate had one with 406 trips

I know of a 62 galaxie sunliner in the 62 ford registry that is equipped with four speed transmission and the M code 390 hipo v8. Build date code is 10A. Could this be a four speed car built before the April intro for four speed.? Also, this car is not an XL.
