  • The Brightline is a High Speed Rail currently serving the cities of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach. It has plans to expand to Orlando and eventually the Tampa area. In this video, I took this method of public transit to Miami from Fort Lauderdale and I was pleasantly surprised at the experience.

    The brightline should really go into Tallahassee and the panhandle if it wants to cover all of Florida. The stations in Orlando will be in downtown and near Disney. It needs like a stop in every town to make it feasible. And create a real metro in every city that way it’s both long and short distance covered.

The latter is very nice, but the basic class is just fine. Of course, Brightline will really only ever be "High Speed" north of WPB, when speeds will be in the 110-125 mph range; south of WPB there are just too many level crossings. • @TohaBgood2
      @TohaBgood2 Před 2 lety

      It's not really high speed. It only goes 79 mph. And while the locomotive has an aero nose cone, it's actually the exact same locomotive that Amtrak has been using for close to a decade on state routes out west. Both Amtrak and VIA Rail in Canada have basically standardized on the exact same type of locomotive and the same Siemens Venture cars.
      Brightline does good marketing. A lot of people seem to believe that it actually is HSR, but it's not even remotely close. Good for them I guess. The more people riding trains the better. I just hope that people don't really believe that this is all there is to actual HSR.

    • @TohaBgood2
      @TohaBgood2 Před 2 lety

      @@rickmartinez3781 Well, that's still very far from HSR though. Actual HSR starts at 150+mph and needs to be sustained speed for most of the route. Even after the extension, Brighline won't hit anything close to that.
      There's a carveout in the HSR standard for upgraded legacy track that starts at 125+mph. But all of Brightline's 125mph track is new track, and again, it's not sustained for any large portion of the route. Most of the route is 79mph or 110mph
      They do have a part of the section between Cocoa and Orlando that is supposed to be 125mph, but that's a tiny portion of the route. You can't call that "sustained".

    BrightLine is going to reimagine travel throughout South Florida and the Orlando and Tampa area. I can’t wait for the Orlando service to start later on this year, this is going to be a game changer, taking the majority of cars off the road, especially on the turnpike, eliminating the hassle of paying tolls. Welcome to the new way of traveling throughout most of the eastern half of Florida.

    Hi Ken, did you test the Wi-Fi service on the train? How was the cell reception on the train? It looks very nice and I would consider taking it because the metro rail and metromover connect to it. Would you use it over Tri rail in the future? By the way, Ft Lauderdale is planning to build a metromover style monorail that would go to the airport and seaport. Should be nice getting to FLL from Miami whenever it opens. Thanks for the great videos.

    BTW AK, can you take your bike on Brightline?

  • @GS-Das
    @GS-Das Před 2 lety +4

    The Brightline is great, but it kills more people than any other train in the country. Usually because the crazy stupid South Florida drivers go around the pike and try to beat the train crossing the track.

    • @nikolairose2739
      @nikolairose2739 Před 2 lety

      shame. Wonder how they can plan around the stupidity of people.
      But to be fair... I remember driving in Miami and accidentally getting kind of stuck on a railroad for the first time ever. The traffic light sort of tricked me, I was stressed for a good minute thinking I was going to have my car totaled. But this never happened in other states, that particular crossing was just very weird.
      As it was my first time there I didn't know that after the crossing there was only room for one or two cars. I moved just as they moved while we had the green but apparently it goes from green to red quickly and it got me stuck. I blame poor design on that particular crossing but for others idk.

    • @rickmartinez3781
      @rickmartinez3781 Před 2 lety +2

      Brightline has not killed anyone. People are dying by illegally and dangerously passing around the railroad track guards and then being struck by a Brightline train. It’s the driver’s or pedestrian’s fault in every case.

    • @TohaBgood2
      @TohaBgood2 Před 2 lety

      That's not possible. Their Siemens Charger locomotives can only go 125mph. Plus the 125mph section is only 30 miles, they would only save a couple of minutes of runtime. Upgrading to 150mph isn't cheap. It's extremely unlikely that they can afford that.
