That is a version of the Filson Double Mackinaw. I have one without the fur collar. It is 30 years old and is as good as the day it was made. It weighs far more than you would think and you can actually feel the extra weight of the cape construction. The wool is so tight that it is virtually waterproof. In those days it did not have the flannel lining which I think is better than with the lining, as it makes it more breathable and less likely to get wet from perspiration.

I made a winter coat with 24 oz melton wool. The lining was linen, wool batting, and linen again. Plus it has a hood.
I bought this exact same jacket last spring, I never thought how awesome it is until I put it to the test.. I walked the dog outside in -20c almost feeling like -30c with wind chill, in during this Christmas winter storm, winds gusting up to 80-100km/hr, with only a Filson's midweight merino base layer underneath. It's not wind proof, takes a lot of wind to penetrate, but not once was I cold, like at all.
Now, only if they could do the blue and black, and also the green and black buffalo plaid for the wool packer coat, I would be so happy...
-30c is pretty cold. I was doing truck tire roadcalls in Nebraska and it was -40F/-40c before wind chill, and I had some issued coveralls on, and I was COLD…don’t think I’d wear a jacket this nice for road calls though…lol

I have one and wear it when I ride horses. It’s warm, comfortable, and pretty lightweight, but when the temperatures really drop it is lacking a little. If you want deep warmth, check out a sheepskin coat from Overland.

If you want a Fislon Packer Coat etc from filson I suggest buying it as soon as you see it. Filson is already sold out of the 2022 Stock. They usually drop around Oct Nov every year. So 2 months or less and they sold thousands

sheep skin is actually very cheap - you can buy them from farms for 1 british pound
the inside made of cotton will loose the insulation warmth when its wet. so no crawling trough the snow or sweathing a lot (or what?). i love the mackinaw wool
If you’re in weather where you need a coat like this sweat isn’t a problem because you should know how to layer properly. And it doesn’t lose any insulation. There is still a layer of mackinaw wool between your body and the environment

@@Saichigo no. The mackinaw layer is the part of the jacket that is supposed to keep warmth in and cold out. The lining isn’t going to change the insulation properties of the mackinaw no matter how long you’re out for.
Wether they’d used polyester or cotton, you wouldn’t be able to notice a difference in the temperature, because the lining isn’t supposed to make a difference for the thermal properties. The job of the lining is to be comfortable, not insulate.

I bought a wool shell polyester liner over coat from alpine swiss for 44 bucks before tax+shipping, I've literally stood in my boxers and no shirt outside in single digit temps and the only thing cold was my lower legs

The cotton lining defeats half the point of the wool. If/when it gets wet it no longer insulates, and it stinks from your BO. You're better off spending 1/3 of that on a Stormy Kromer Mackinaw jacket and then just wearing extra layers underneath as needed.
It doesn’t remove the properties of the wool. The wool operates the same insulation-vise. Its also a deep winter garment so the only real situation where it gets soaked is if you go through the ice, and in that situation youre not gonna be thinking about the lining.
You should try weatherwool. They’re way better than Filson.
