    One of the best live music experiences I've ever had in my life was when I was an early teen and my family and I went to a small island in Greece. Without knowing it, we had decided to stay there during a yearly festival. For the entire week we were there, there were musicians all over the island who showed up to give small concerts. The best one was on a small town square where an ancient olive tree grew. The entire city was built on the side of a mountain so this town square was more like a platform of sorts. In front of the olive tree a little Irish band played Irish folk music all night. Tourists and locals and started dancing zorba together and I filmed some of it on my phone... but this was back in the 2000s so the recording looks and sounds horrible. It's a great memory though.

      @@viciouslady1340 Your country means a lot me and my family! My dad used to buy casette tapes with Greek folk music on them during our vacations and would play them every morning in his car on the way to work. I was lucky enough to go visit Kalymnos with my mom before covid. My family and I used to visit Kalymnos a lot in the 90s and it had been well over 20 years since last time we went there. I was so amazed how much everything looked the same. I even found the exact tree on Telendos that my sister and I had been climbing as toddlers. I'm in my 30s now.
      Even though I only spent my childhood summers in Greece, I still feel like the nature and the culture is a very important part of my identity. It's like a second home and I was so happy to go be able to smell the same smells and hear the same sounds and see the same places that have stayed with me since childhood.

      Well, we also love the French & their beautiful country & culture too. So much culture in France, especially the stunning architecture & the very good food! :-) Also, here's the fact, French peoples, they are of true & genuine Celtic stock. The true Celts, they originated from what today is Austria & they passed through Northern Italy, down to Southern Italy, then across into Spain & France. The French & Austrian (Germanic) DNA are so closely similar, that even experts cannot really tell them apart, hence why within all DNA results, French & German DNA, are always placed together. Also, i have many French friends, who've taken their DNA test & contrary to popular belief, they do carry fairly large amounts of English, Irish, Scottish DNA, so too, substantial %'s of Scandinavian DNA. If anyone requires proof, just type into you tube, French DNA results. Sure, there's been the Roman influences too, but most French peoples, no matter whereby in France they hail, but specifically in Northern France, Normandy & Brittany, definitely do carry larger amounts of English, Irish & Scandinavian ancestry. As the saying goes.....People can lie & get things wrong, but our inner DNA, that does not lie.

    May the road rise up to meet you.
    May the wind be always at your back.
    May the sun shine warm upon your face;
    the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again.

But there is something about the way the banjo punctuates the tune that gets me every time, especially if being played at a dance. Gives purchase for the feet, as one tenor banjo once player I know once described it.

    Humans are wild animals, free and resilient. This is what this music says to me. When they come for me, they will have to take my fiddle from my cold dead fingers. Play well, play with all your heart. Well done!

    Great to have a session to ‘join’ ( play along with), As close an experience of a proper real life session that we can hope for in current times. The way it’s filmed, with minimal editing, and 3 hours long, helps the ‘being there’ illusion. Especially when watching on a large screen and with decent sound. I even found myself getting a bit annoyed by the tuning getting a bit out at times ...... and no one took any notice when I suggested we stop for a tune up. It just made it feel all the more ‘real’. Love it!

    Ach! I'm of Scottish and Irish descent and grew up very disconnected to my Irish heritage but very much connected to my Scots heritage (My family was obsessed with going to Highland Games here in the States). I'm reconnecting to my Irish heritage and saw that sessions are a huge part of Irish culture and good god seeing these happening make my blood sing in the best way possible, I would love to join in on some of these, makes me want to learn traditional Irish Music just to partake... I'm so happy that this was put out there to enjoy, these are such lovely numbers!

    I love that guy John's banjo playing style. Real strong picking, no frills, perfect triplets. I find other players like Gerry O'Connor to sometimes be too busy. They can sometimes lose the base notes of the tune.

    Great stuff altogether! It came up on ‘CZcams recommended’ for me as I had been watching Transatlantic Sessions programmes over the past week. When I saw it was Arklow I thought I’d give it a go as I’m from nearby Courtown,do some work in Dunnes and Tesco in Arklow. Thought I might spot someone I know coming in the pub! I was captivated from the moment the music started and watched the entire video! Brilliant stuff,I was having a few beers myself and really getting into the vibe. Loved it. When I woke up this morning it was like I had spent the evening in the pub,was still in a great mood. There’s no need for staycations in Dingle, Doolin or Donegal when you have the craic like this! Will definitely take a trip out when pubs are open again,will even stay local B&B to make a night of it 😁
