[HOW TO] Upgrade the Shift Knob on 2015-2022 GMC Canyon (Slim Shifter)

- This video shows how to remove and replace a shift knob on a 2015-2020 GMC Canyon. It is similar on 2015-2022 Chevy Colorado.The shift knob is replaced with one from a 2016-2017 Envision. Part # 23286909
No special tools are required for this modification, but it helps to have some trim removal tools.

The new 2022 GMC canons now
come with a shifter like that. I was
looking at your video and thought
it was a good idea went out to my
truck but I just got this week and
noticed the shifter is already
changed to a slimmer model.

Why wait for warranty to expire? Keep the old 1995 cavalier style knob and throw it back in if for some reason you need warranty work on your shifter...
I wonder if the Corvette C6 automatic knob would work on these trucks. Might be a nice low profile option.

I just did this but I didn't take the trim off very easy.
The trim is easier to take off if you have some sort of pry tool
Will this work with the 6 speed duramax in the GMC Canyon
As far as I know it should be the exact same process.
will this work with other GM shift levers? Say from the Acadia, etc?
Yes. With some modifications. The Acadia and blazer shifters work I believe. But the connectors are different and need to be spliced.
Where did you get that carbon
fiber trim piece? My 2019 has an ugly silver one.
That’s factory. My truck is an All Terrain. That’s what it came with.

Why did Dash Indicator go up to 7 when you were Manually testing gears?
It’s not manual shifting it’s locking out gears. Used for towing.
