    “Why battery swap and BaaS is needed?”
    1. You have option to upgrade battery when new technology comes around.
    2. You can pick and choose battery that suit you best. Larger batteries for longer journeys. Smaller batteries for cities.
    3. Battery packs optimised for different temperature range. Like winter tires.
    4. Even with 1MW charger it will take at least 9 minutes to charge a 150KWH. If batteries get bigger this time will only get bigger. With battery swap this time will remain same.
    5. Faster charging batteries need bigger and heavier cooling systems, which will reduce the range.
    6. Grid stability and price surge: If 20K EVs connect to 500KW fast chargers, this will put grid under pressure to generate 10GW of energy in an instant. Even if nothing blows up due to this insane demand, there will be a surge in price of energy. If grids can’t supply this much power to the charging stations they will charge slower. You must have already seen this, when there are more vehicles charging at a supercharger during peak hours, superchargers are not so super.
    I hope this helps.

    • @danielblancoatienza6219
      @danielblancoatienza6219 Před 28 dny +6

      7. Battery life is limited. The more you charge the battery with superchargers, the less life it has. The battery swap allows you to have a new or a checked battery.
      8. The battery swap has an insurance covering any kind of problem related to the battery.

    • @ankushdhiman5867
      @ankushdhiman5867 Před 28 dny +2

      Thanks for explaining this to Barret. If not, I would have. It just proves that there is more education needed to explain this MOAT about battery swap and BAAS is a sustainable longterm business model. Also with Gen 4 Swap station and NOP+ or Autonomous Driving, your NIO can drive by itself to the swap station at night and return back to your home.
      There is a reason why a series of partnerships deals are announced with NIO battery swap technology, more partnerships are coming and swap will become the standard in China with NIO’s tech. Also the safety check of batteries will come into play when your battery is deemed unsafe, you as EV owner will have a problem, unless you have an EV that can swap batteries.
      Not to mention that NIO has the largest charging infrastructure in China, super/fast charging + swap stations. More than all other EV brands combined.

    • @MM-sr6fw
      @MM-sr6fw Před 14 dny +2

      9. The resale value of your EV will hold up. People will probably not want to buy an EV that is 8yrs old with an old battery.

      10. you can rent and upgrade a larger battery for a longer journey when you needed by day. without to change a car.

    Battery swap is just an added advantage. Customers can also charge the battery. Buying a battery upfront may be a costly solution if the lithium price doubles in the next 2 years. It’s like an on-premise data center and cloud solution. 75% of companies have moved to subscription-based cloud solutions. Just buying a car without a battery may seem nonsensical now, but it will ultimately be the best solution. Today’s lithium price will not last longer.

    Hi Lee, it's so good to see and hear you again, after I have succumbed to two serious brain hemorrhages, interjected by a stroke and heart attack. Having been three years recovering, I thought often of you and Ollie, especially whilst laying in The Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, having been transferred from Antrim Hospital. I will be forever grateful to the brain surgeons who saved my life. You are the first among the older lads on CZcams, who I was so looking forward to seeing and hearing again. I have been told that Kirk (Gweilo 60) has sadly lost his wife Weifang to that vile plague to mankind, but Kirk is now in the Philippines. Matt is back in Michigan with his wife Annie, and darling little daughter. having both left the shores of China 🇨🇳, at least for the time being. As we all know, China is light years ahead of the West. I am currently in N. Ireland, but about to leave here for good, for my final years based in the South of France, for travel to many places my wife and I have never travelled to or ventured.
    Over the last few years, we have sadly watched mainland UK, speedily going down the toilet and going to hell in a hand basket. After the upcoming July 4th election, the NEW government will have an uphill battle to repair or rebuild a nation that has been all but obliterated, by a band of narcissistic, immature, parliamentarians, who have robbed the nation of any hope. ELECTRIC VEHICLES?? Millions can barely afford to pay for their electric supply, let alone even entertain the thought of buying an E.V.
    I, with millions of others believe, this incoming government has so much crap to rid the nation of, that it can NEVER reach the target date, or the agreed number of E.V's expected to be on our roads, thereby failing to comply with ALL the E.U. policies, directives and mandates, to have that appropriate and pre- Brexit agreed number of electric vehicles operational.
    This current Sunak lunatic approach: "Let's ignore everything and it MIGHT go away", is still in their approach to this brain damaged dream world they try to operate in. As you are very likely aware Lee, there is barely adequate E.V. facilities or equipment for a sound basics of an infrastructure, and what little there is, is on the whole, pathetically inadequate and flawed. Lee, you've done amazing job and what thrills me most is to see and hear you are well. I trust most sincerely that you remain in good health and continue to expand your vision into new areas. Both of us having faced life's greatest challenge, and coming out the other end eternally grateful and, in my own case a changed man, we know how wonderful this air we breathe is, and how blessed life is. Stay well sir and continue in the best of health.

    NIO's advantage with battery swapping is the ability to easily exchange battery packs without worrying about battery degradation issues. You can purchase the smallest 75 kWh battery pack for daily commuting at the lowest price. You can also charge it at home like other electric cars. However, if you occasionally need to travel long distances, you can go to a battery swapping station and rent a 100 kWh battery pack with a range of 600 km or a 150 kWh battery pack with a range of 1000 km for $20-30 per day! Battery swap has tonnes of advantages, better experience (no need to get out the car, managed line up etc.), battery health check, upgradable, no need to worry about battery life and the list goes on. And for supercharge, you won't achieve the max speed if someone is charging next to you and shares the voltage, and I don't foresee it being massively deployed because the load to the electric grid is just insane. In contrast, battery swap is grid friendly and can help balance the grid.
    And the 1000km batteries? These are born for swap, can supercharge charge 1000km in 3 mins? Additionally, 1000km batteries are very expensive and currently make sense only if you're renting them. Only battery swapping allows you to rent these high-capacity batteries temporarily when you need them.

      Germany's Mansory used to have really awful over the top bodykit for whichever cars that they touched. Lorinser was doing MB last time, just like Brabus, Carlsson and AMG... I am surprised even they are looking East and doing the Chinese EV? But it could be a big market... I dunno, but seems of late, extravagantly done up after market parts for the cars, or even whole, seems to be not in fashion, I dunno, correct me if I'm wrong. It's totally not necessary in the world of EV, changing a new one every 2 or 3 yrs.

    Battery swap is still by far the most convenient way of charging. Battery swapping also allows you to have a battery that will never degrade. That is the biggest downside to EV cars. Nio bypasses that huge concern.

    • @BarrettYT
      @BarrettYT  Před 28 dny +1

      You have a point with Battery degradation, But I dont think its most convenient, as they are way way way more fast charging stations than there are NIO swap stations.

      @@BarrettYT Amazing to talk to you. I have been watching you for several years and you are a real hero that world needs.
      I have driving EV since 2015 and done more than 250000 miles in them. Both my cars have been EVs since 2018. I have seen the ever more impressive numbers constantly churned out by manufacturers as to how fast it charges etc. The reality is when you are doing long journeys as I do regularly the maximum charge speed is just that. The max. Majority of charging is less than that and the last few fews gained take longer than anything. To come to a charger and then to get out and plug and sit in your car for atleast 20mins (to nearly full charge) will never be less than that because of the variable speed it will get charged and come out to take the plug out is seriously tedious and one I could do without.
      The idea of just coming somewhere and staying in the car and 5 mins later you have a fully charged battery for your continued long journey (and not a compromised due to trying to finish with OK amount in a shorter time) would be amazing. I know has options for both (they have more proprietary charging stations than any other car company and already has over 2400 swap stations in China). If they can bring that to the UK then I am definitely on board.

      @@71Hamed Charging in China is the most convenient, because charging stations are everywhere, but NIO swap stations is the most efficient and elegant way to replenish energy。Thank you for your recognition and support of NIO's business model. By the end of the year, NIO will have more than 3,600 swap stations in China。

      It's better to invest in technology today than to wait for tomorrow. What if the lithium price doubles in the next 2 years? It is difficult for consumers to spend money upfront and buy an EV. NIO will be the only company to survive in such a case. These days, no one is building a data center to host applications available in the cloud. It’s all not about charging speed.

    IM L6 (a sub-brand of SAIC for EVs, IM --> Intelligent Me or Intelligent Myself), is actually one of the best available on the market now. It has the first model with a range of over 1000 kms. 0-100 < 3s. And fast charging,15 minutes 500 kms. What's a pity, it should begin and finish by them, with their very very discreet but serious vehicles!!! Hopefully the second video will present them but not with efficiency as things are changing very quickly, and their XNGP ADAS 4.2 should be available on any vehicle as it will be on quite all flying cars arriving during the year 2025!

    BAAS will work and is required in some markets, like China. Not everyone has access to charging poles. Traditional plug-in charging is an option for NIO. NIO is entering the energy storage market as well as the EV market. What happens to an EV when the structural battery gets old and/or fails? The car is useless. Never write off BAAS. Why do you think power tools have batteries you can swap in and out, tradespeople want fresh power NOW and do not want to throw away tools when the battery fails. Anyway nice video. NIO is by far the leader in the Chinese EV space. The world will enjoy their products.
