- In the year 1997, a satellite probe was launched from Ghost Planet. Dubbed Clyde 49, its mission was simple: to gather and collect action animation from Earth in order to build you a better cartoon show. This is Toonami on Cartoon Network.
This is a compilation video I put together using footage of commercials and episodes from shows that played on Cartoon Network's Toonami block (from 4 to 6 in the evening) in the year 1998. Certain shows (like Thundercats, Voltron, The Real Adventures of Johhny Quest, and Sailor Moon to name a few) can't be used for copyright reasons. These shows were substituted with other great cartoons and shows that played on Toonami around the same time. Think of it as a retro remix or a bootleg weekday afternoon broadcast.
This is seventy-sixth video I've done like this, the sixteenth video I've done on Cartoon Network, and the fifth Toonami video I've made (two of those were blocked over copyright claims). I wanted to do an old school Toonami block with the original host Moltar for some time. However, I couldn't because there just weren't enough of the original line-up not blocked on CZcams. However, it appears Hasbro is being a bro and allowing Beast Wars episodes to be uploaded now, so there we go. I'm really excited with how this one turned out, especially with the commercials. Enjoy, and don't forget to do your homework once Toonami finishes like you promised Mom (doesn't matter if you're in your twenties or thirties or whatever because she will still ground you).
Disclaimer: I do not make any money or accept any donations for these videos. I make them in my free time as a hobby, out of a love for old television, and because they're the kinds of videos I would like to be able to watch on CZcams. If you see CZcams ads (not commercials) on this video, that's because this video was copyright claimed by a variety of different companies, who chose to run ads on my video for their own profit. I also do not make these videos for children, but for adults like myself who are nostalgic for their childhoods. If the comments are disabled on this video or another like it, it's because CZcams set it as "for children." And that's the end of that disclaimer.

Happy watching!
That "dont rebroadcast" message 😅
Only the OGs remember Moltar as host.
I have very faint memories of Moltar, I think. I can't say for sure that I remember, but I think I might remember to remember it.
I remember because before toonami, I've seen him multiple times on this lil late night/pre adult swim show called Space Ghost Coast to Coast lol.
Didn't they do a vote on his name? Or was that Tom?
So if my math serves me correctly you're over 100 now😅
I remember before there was a Toonami, Cartoon Network basically was Boomerang and had nothing but old cartoons on. They eventually got into new shows particularly for kids and little kids then they made Toonami to attract an older audience of young kids basically have what would be Saturday morning cartoons on all week. Before Toonami and even Adult Swim there was Space Ghost coast to coast and all the spin off shows then they introduced Toonami with Moltar as the host. Once Space Ghost faded out they killed off Moltar and replaced him with Tom the robot or whatever else they are using today.
I was 39 when this came out in 1998. The late 1990s-early 2000s was the high point of Toonami.
Damn grandpa! Lol jk. Yes the 90s early 2000 was amazing
Damn I was 8
@@pokemonaceb1689me too
Salute
Damn how old are you now fuckkkkkkkkk
I’m 37 now and I still remember watching this back in 1998! Even the commercials.
I can't believe I remember most of these commercials. ..I don't know whether or not to be impressed or sad. That these have been in my head since 98
I have exactly them same thing happen for me.
I'm subscribed to a bunch of channels that just rerun commercials from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s and I remember so many of them.
They often trigger memories of watching TV with my siblings in the 80s and 90s.
someones gotta be the one to remember
same especially that chips ahoy commercial...idk why
every moment of your life is recorded. don't be surprised.
When we were kids, we did anything to skip or avoid commericals. Now we watch channels that have nothing but 20-30 year old commercials
I remember the early days of Toonami when Moltar was host. Good ol days of coming home from school watching Cartoon Network and doing homework lol
You can tell this was a chill time for Cartoon Network. The whole vibe of this is just amazing.
1998 great year
36 here i remember not knowing wtf was going on with space ghost coast to coast but i was totally memorized by the fuckin weirdness of it all lol
This, I think, is where it began for me as a child. When it comes to TV that I enjoyed, I can't remember any further back than this.
I never thought about it until now, but Cartoon Network stopped focusing on anime a long time ago. That’s crazy. In the 2000s, more than half of Adult Swim’s programming was anime.
It was cool that it wasn’t just new stuff, but shows from the 80s too like Macross and Lupin III. RIP. Before torrenting, it was the only way to watch amine without spending a ton of money on DVDs.
I remember hearing damn on Cartoon Network for the first time on late night Toonami.
😂the innocence of a child back then wild man
Hell yeah. These were my weekday nights as a kid.
I was 24. My wife just gace birth to my son later that year. I introduced my boy to DBZ when it was my turn turn feed him. 1998 was a lifetime ago and i miss it.
That's awesome man. My son was born in 2022 and we watch Dragonball and Z on Crunchyroll and Hulu. I got him into Yu Yu Hakusho and Yu-Gi-Oh as well. He dances to all the intros 😁
YES!! I remember late 90s Toonami like it was yesterday. THANK YOU!! And God do I miss ROBOTECH 😭❤️❤️
That was so long ago. It brings back a lot of memories of coming home from school, finishing my homework, and turning on Cartoon Network.
Robotech... no assembly required.
Around 2009 there was action around LA to make an epic trilogy of live action robotech with Lord of Rings level CGI.
I completely forgot Beast Wars aired a little bit on Toonami. That and DBZ, I love it!
A huge part of my childhood..thanks for the memories
This channel is like therapy to me. I love falling to sleep to what I grew up watching
I never realized how crazy the pianist was playing for the Robotech background music. Just nuts.. must be a jazz head guy.
Killing it lately! I love you Rinse, seriously. Thank you so much for making all these. I'd love more nick and fox stuff
ROBOTECH!!! I've been feeling nostalgic for Robotech/Macross lately, but toonnami was where i 1st watched robotech, thank you
I Just came across this channel few days ago and i gotta say, it takes me way back in a time capsule to when i was only 5years old!!! Especially the classic COMMERCIALS brings back that joy to when a TOY actually meant something😅
ONE WORD "NOSTALGIA "
I feel like this is what i should see whenever i turn on the TV
This is one of the greatest finds in my CZcams history
The golden age of Toonami.
Indeed.
Born when this was running.
Fascinating. A shame Sailor Moon couldn't be used for copyrights but that's okay. I'm happy for this video
I remember the last saturday toonami midnight run became Adult swims first saturday. It was wild. I remember showing my friends ATHF at a sleep over back in 5th grade and we laughed so hard that night.
I vaguely remember the midnight run too. Remember Toonami the Rising Sun? Lol they were on the return of Garlic Jr. in DBZ during that time.
@@PeacefulPauseProductions totally do dude
@@jeromethompson5848 hell yea
I was 8 when this came out. Good memories. It’s strange hearing different actors do the dub for DBZ tho.
there was some magic to late 90s and early 2000s. when toonami came on i was completely all in... i may not know who i was or what color i actually liked or who actually were my real friends but i know when this came on that i was ready to lay down in a dark room and without any drugs able to relax and focus and over all look forward to something at the end of the day.
I was 11 when this came out. I am so thankful for all the good things the 90s had brought us. If it weren't for tsunami, I wouldn't be able to watch stuff like the Herculoids or ThunderCats
The best era to be a kid❤
I was watching this while the stream was live and holy hell it brought back a lot of memories. It’s was beautiful because I felt like I was really there! Thanks for the memories
Just how were you able to capture our childhoods 😢
I remember this whole thing. :') Even that wicked soundtrack. I remember when animators back then used to take the actual show logos and give them their own display animations, cutting from the original logo design and just manipulating it onscreen so it would look cool. This stuff isn't done anymore, it doesn't feel like animators today have that kind of dedication to their craft to sacrifice blood, sweat, and tears for hours and days on end just to show a few seconds of this and that.
Man watching this late at night makes me miss being a kid staying up late so i could watch these on a school night. Thank you for the nostalgic feeling.
Robotech was my favorite anime as a child I had tears in my eye watching!
Wow this was literally the launch of Toonami, and it started with one of the first anime I ever watched back in 1984: Robotech/Macross. That's crazy. I don't think I ever saw the launch of Toonami, but I sure remember it around 2000 when they started showing DBZ and Tenchi Muyo. I was still in college, and it was just about the greatest thing ever.
This is so awesome! I remember watching the OG Toonami with Moltar. I totally forgot the lineup had DBZ.
I forgot that Dragon Ball Z started airing on toonami before Tom appeared. Interestingly, enough, Dragon Ball, Z was also airing on UPN in the mornings.
"You know Sears will be there to back it up"
....godsdamnit
Thanks boss!
Hype for This weeks beast wars Episode
Damn Rinse, take a breather already!
Or not, either way we win!
Happiness maximized.
this is so awesome. i can feel the love from your descriptions. thank you for uploading these blocks
Thanks for the stream!
I was in 9th-10th grade when this aired. SOOO COOOOL.
This is going to be rad, I can't wait for the VOD.
Toonami was my favorite show on cartoon network thundercats Voltron defender of the universe sailor Moon dragon ball z beast wars transformers robotech and cartoon roulette the original toonami from the cartoon network 1998 i miss the old days
Aww all the bridge bunnies and Claudia *sigh 😢. I remember watching this after school in the eighties.
I miss these days 😢
Don't we all.
1998-2002ish was my favorite era for anime viewing here in the States. There wasn't any streaming service to speak of, or at the very least, it wasn't no where close to what it is today and most of us were still using dial up modems. The anime craze was just kicking off at this time so you were pretty limited to accessibility. Whatever Suncoast had or what you could get from tape traders at Con's.
My favorite part of this era was everybody getting involved in the "talkback" after racing home from school to catch the latest dub episode. It was all fresh to us. Now everybody watches the original Japanese dub months/years in advance so the hype for a new dub on network TV isn't like it used to be.
I remember finding so many anime at random points and then seeing another episode at a completely different point and trying to piece together what happened in between in my head
Thanks!
You’re a legend, thank you for this.
Thanks! I love these remakes of old blocks. Memory can be fuzzy, so it helps recreate them. I originally started with making a 24 hour playback of CN from like summer of 2004. What started as a premiere project eventually became a full on stream remaking the best of CN. It's not an accurate portrayal of any era, rather a mash up of all the best shows and blocks. Naturally I remade toonami, but only once a week because the schedule is already so full. But I aimed to make the best feel. So toonami runs from 2pm to 8pm, starting with reboot, then running some 80s cartoons, then anime. AS through the weekend runs "ACTN" their own anime block. Normal AS shows through the week. And shows from Two Stupid Dogs all the way up to Gumball during the week, with a prime focus on early to mid 2000s.
But vids like this help me out a ton! SO many "Toonami be right back" blocks that are great because my lineup is not like the original (though it's designed to somewhat mimick it, running Sailor Moon, DBZ at 5pm, then Gundam Wing) so I need outro stuff to go to commercials before the next show that don't tell you the wrong show will come up. Ended up broadcasting it to twitch. It's been such a treat.
This is my Toonami, but could you put together something from Moltar's second lineup change? (Sailor Moon, Reboot, DBZ, Quest)? Thank you! :D
EDIT: Oh, right- I keep forgetting, copyright. Bleh, lol.
Damn. I didn’t get Cartoon Network at home until late 2001. I was 10 then. Time really keeps on ticking, man.
Dude I was 8 years old at this time and hated nick at night would come on. I could’ve just turned it to Cartoon Network and got acquainted with toonami earlier
I love all of these! Thank you 🙏🏾
Robotech was the first media that taught me sometimes the good guys cant save everyone; friends, mentors, 90% of earths surface...
Glad to have caught the live stream and spend some time in the chat while watching. It was a great time as always.
Another great broadcast, thanks Rinse❤
The biggest thing throwing me off is that Robotech was never a starter show. There wasn't a good option to fill the time given the restrictions, so I get it. The commercial breaks definitely take me back. Just a small bullied kid running home just to feel comfort in a cartoon show. I'm very emotional from this.
thanks for archiving this stuff
Excellent love this and when cartoon network and toonami was better than now in 2024
Hell yeah
Love this channel, thank you so much
Ahh them Radio Shack rc cars on Christmas day 😋
Ocean Dub Dragon Ball Z thats what I grew up with.

Me too.
@@dreamguardian8320 I really thought that their voices just changed as they got older lmao so after frieza saga everything timeskipped I thought it was like their natural shit lol
This is great to leave playing on your CRT in the background.
Love that your back! Can’t wait to see your New Halloween Mix in the future hopefully.
Don’t forget about us Fox Kids fans in the future.
Space Ghost, The Herculoids, Jonny Quest, Birdman/Galaxy Trio, Frankenstein Jr and the Impossibles,Young Samson and Goliath, Shazzan are my favorites
Remember The Intruder Original Story? We lost Tom but got Tom 2.0.
Thank you again!
Thank you so much for this. Also hope you do another Friday night live stream😊
Sigh........I'm home again 🙌🏿
You got the Ocean dud Of DragonBall Z!! Awesomeness!!!!
That's the only way to watch it
That Times my friends. That Good Times. Thanks.
Man this is ancient!
Ahh yes good ol DBZ filler. I even remember as a kid feeling this sudden change to be 'not part of the actual show'.
This is great to go to bed too!
53:25 FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, JUST GIVE THE POOR RABBIT SOME CEREAL!!!! WHAT THE HELL DID HE EVER DO TO YOU!!! 😂

46:06 best intro from old school toonami
I was born 11/05/1998 who else can say that?
Personally think that is the best computer graphics need to be. Have an artificial/unpolished look is it own flavor
TV used to be so good

Bliss!🎉
What a blast from the past🥲
I'll say.
I used to tell my parents that Robotech was like Dallas for my sister and me
Good times🐸🍺🔪🔥
Why did the old anime feel so futuristic???😅
love the vf fighter
Very cool 😎
Excellent an era where you could live and thrive space was respected I'm not going to ruin this generational moment of greatness with today's failed farm in time of embarrassment and complete joke
Moltar was the OG!
