- Like many of you, I have been hoping for years now to get a well written Knuckles. One that stuck to the roots of the character. One that was consistent with the established character arc. One that wasn't treated like a complete Dumbass. Luckily, the second Sonic Movie released and gave us an incredible interpretation of knuckles that has finally done justice to the character. In this video I explain exactly why this Knuckles is fantastic and so well written. Hope you all enjoy!

So, I decided to give you guys this little bonus video before I upload the Silver Character Analysis Video to celebrate this channel hitting the incredible milestone of 30,000 Subscribers. Knuckles was by far my favourite character in his debut games so it was great to see the character treated with more respect than he has been for a long time. It's no surprise that he doesn't understand earth culture, he hasn't had years spent observing people like movie Sonic has. I felt I was spending a lot more time laughing with Knuckles and a lot less time laughing at him.
Knuckles was my favorite character in the movie. I love how he’s clearly naive and socially inept instead of being outwardly dumb. Combined with his strength and it’s great.

Not to mention this type of Earnest character comedy is so rare in a post m.c.u. world. The cartoony comedy like that bar passable, but still felt like flatlining every time knuckles wasn't on screen.
I felt the same way. Which is why seeing the way he was mishandled in the "Sonic Drone Home" short upset me greatly.

What makes Movie Knuckles so good is that he’s a mix of all the best traits Knuckles has and he’s executed well. A strong badass warrior with a sense of honor and justice and only comes across as “dumb” because of his inexperience with Earth culture. His funny moments show layers of his character instead of coming at the expense of them. Plus his introduction was a great way to introduce a rival. It was good to see him be a genuine threat to Sonic and a dangerous It’s powerhouse. I’m glad Knuckles is himself again. Rant over

Movie Knuckles had a great balance of comedy and seriousness similar to Eggman.
It's still Jim Carrey wearing eggman's skin, and spewing Marvel shlock to boot! Wanna know who's is the only effective and memorable comedy in the whole movie?(i'll give you a hint:"it starts with a...knuckles"!)
@@erikbihari3625 I wasn't a fan of movie Eggman either, or his Smithers. Also God(?) Eggman is probably the worst Eggman design we've had, due it turning him into generic villain in black #59386940295. Not sure the talking in autotune was really necessary.

@@DemonDethchase That's the thing though, that's exactly what Robotnik has always wanted to be - the generic villain with ultimate power over all things. He strives for a goal that, realistically, he should never be able to achieve, but he finds a way in the Master Emerald.
Really, in this they have the ultimate failure for Robotnik - that being that he finally achieves his goal of fitting into this villain archetype, only to almost immediately lose anyway, seemingly dying in the process.
It's not "Eggman became a generic villain." That only looks at his last 15 minutes in the films in isolation. His character is not defined by those 15 mins, but rather by his arc over the two films.
As a small extra point, I'd also note that the fact that one of the first things he does with his new power is vocode his voice for fun is a pretty solid example of how he *does* differ from "generic villain in black #59386940295." He still has his own character *on top* of the power and status he's achieved. But that's not really the point.
See, this is actually Knuckles. Knuckles isn't dumb, he's actually one of the smarter characters in the franchise, he's just been stuck on a floating island with no interaction with any living beings long enough so that he's just socially dull and not good with detecting the truth. The problem is that the later members of the Sonic Team didn't realize that and just thought he was dumb, so they made him dumb. Hopefully now that this is here, maybe game Knuckles will finally be good again.

It's a huge breath of fresh air to see Knuckles done justice like this. I love how they managed to keep the "Dumb Knuckles" jokes without sacrificing how badass he is or his actually impressive intelligence. Now the joke's evolved into "Knuckles just isn't with the times." Absolutely a massive improvement right there.

Also, I agree, knuckles was treated very poorly in the games, and the movie, as it may not be accurate to knuckles' origins, is the BEST interpretation since the IDW comics, and as for the "Dumb Knuckles"
Sega used knuckles as a comedy relief character after adventure.

This is the step in the right direction for SEGA, if they continue this path of treating characters as actually characters and not jokes, this can restore my faith in Sonic The Hedgehog series once again. Please SEGA, don't disappoint us all
The movie is still pretty forgetable aside from anything involving knuckles. Because unlike the pop culture spewing snarky Marvel crap it's entirely stems from he's character! Watch"so uncivilized"S channel!

That scene where Knuckles punches the Master Emerald is one of my favourite scenes in the movie and proves that no matter the continuity Knuckles can still punch the Super Form out of anyone whether it's Sonic in Sonic 3 & Knuckles or Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Film).
you might want to watch Gameapologists video on this... his theory is that Knuckles KNOWS how to counter Chaos energy, not necessarily USE it like Sonic in his Super Form but to cancel it out.
Then why couldn't he do that to chaos in Sonic adventure 1!?😡 And the"because the game's events wouldn't have happen"rhetoric won't fly here, just facts and logic.
@@erikbihari3625 chaos doesn't quite follow the average rules when it comes to chaos energy. the thing is a chao mutated into divinity by the very same chaos energy. we see it with chaos 2, which dematerializes the emerald where changing shape instead of moving them around, which should be an exclusive of the superform with all 7 of them, and when he dissolves after being defeated he leaves no residue in any of the form, which should not happen has he gains a "scheletrical costruct" to hold them in
baseline, the thing did not work on chaos because he's incompatible in fisionomy to punch the chaos out of him, and the master emerald being in pieces meant no 'off prayer' like the one used later on the ark, and perfect caos being so much above actual punching range at that point to do it
@@serPomiz Also, Chaos uses the negative energy of the emeralds to get stronger. That probably uses mechanisms FAR different than ANYONE but Tikal has seen
it reminds me of some character, I think Lex Luthor, who literally got the God punched out of him by Superman. As in, he had god powers, superman punched him, and now he no longer has god powers.
Another thing I love about Movie Knuckles is that, after the battle with Robotnik, he becomes an older brother figure to Sonic and Tails. I loved the moment when picks up Tails and carries him on his shoulder. It was so wholesome.

Here's hoping Shadow can have his own unique interpretation while being brought back to his roots, as Knuckles has.
And here's hoping they also continue to go in the right direction with Tails, and not go the Lost World/Forces route.
Also, for the Knuckles show, I'm hoping it'll be similar to Knuckles Chaotix, meaning we could get live action versions of Mighty, Vector, Espio and Charmy (Hell, the last three made a cameo in the Knuckles story in the IDW Pre-Quill comic), and I'd really love that, since Vector is my favourite character.

I've read the pre-quil comic, Knuckles' story is so damn interesting especially the fact that Team Choatix made a quick cameo that caught many readers off guard!
I was going to say the chaotix will appear, but you already mentioned it, so, yeah and I hope rey and mighty, because both of them are part of the chaotix group and I hope that they wont be step asided again or like they'll never appeared or mentioned after that like the games
Sonic even seems to be slowly developing into his adventure and storybook characterisation as well. He starts to become way more adventurous, cocky, inspirational and selfless near the end of the movie

6:15 I always loved how he said "Friend" there, he says it in a hesitating type of voice because he never really said that to anyone else before. He never really had a "Friend" in his life to be there for him. Idk why, I just love that small detail.
Can we also shout out Edris Elba voicing knuckles. Perfect balance of naive and lonely and absolute powerhouse.

Almost made me cry because of the feeling of betrayal and emotion mixed together in that singular line.
Wasn’t expecting this, but it’s fantastic to see Knuckles back riding on that victory chariot. Hope he stays like he is in the next movie

The first sonic character analysis video to feature a movie version.
The movie version also has more in common with drax the desteoyer in many aspects of he's personality, thanos strength and portal entrance, and mcu heindal's voice.
I love how they portray him as uneducated and naive, rather than being just dumb. He lived in isolation for his entire life with no one to teach him anything, how is he supposed to know stuff about socializing or things like that? The movie lets you know that he's not familiar with anything on earth, but they don't make him the butt of the joke, and I love that! Can't wait to see him in the next movie, especially in his own show, too!
What about tails in this movie. He has gained a lot of character in the Second Sonic the hedgehog movie and definitely feels like he has reverted back to his character in the sonic adventure games. For instance, he seems a lot more confident while still being a little weary. Take the scene where he helps get knuckles infiltrate the death egg robot. He doesnt fully trust knuckles, but he still has the confidence to help him and even call him 'really heavy' despite the fact that sonic is not nearby. We can see that he has developed in this way as for the first half of the movie, he seems very reliant and concerned about not only his but also sonic's safety and even tries to go back to his home world after he lets sonic know about the on-coming threats in the movie because he was scared and afraid.
Tails in the movie is such a breath of hope after the character assassination in the games (Lost worlds and Forces).
I wouldn't go so far saying its a return to form from sonic adventure 1 and 2, because he's not yet acting as the guy with the plan for the group. He has brilliance on display with everything he uses and eagerness to get out of a sticky situation, but he's the sidekick here between two protagonists.
This movie DID set him up to be like SA1 and SA2 which I hope they shine light on. Here's to hoping it'll happen my two tailed friend.
Tails was also so good in the movie. Mixture of cute, very smart and willing to learn and try new things even if he’s scared. Damn, these guys can write better characters than sonic team 😂

For me, getting an honorable version of Knuckles was enough. Getting a genuinely funny performance was a welcome bonus.
When I was first watching the film I was like: "Ugh, I hope they don't make knuckles dumb" But when I saw his character design and the way he acted, I knew that he had drastically changed from sonic boom and the main series, This made me actually LIKE knuckles even more than I did before. I love how paramount team and sega both Changed knuckles so much.
seeing how Sonic Frontiers takes a LOT of inspiration from the Sonic movie to make Sonic's combat moves, and Ian Flynn is handling the character dialogue, I feel like it's safe to assume we'll have Knuckles back for real in Frontiers.

When I watched the film with my brother, he was surprised by how Knuckles was, cause he always thought he was just a meathead dumb dude, he didn't even know he was the guardian of the master emerald.
His "dark" era really affected how people see him.
Movie Knuckles’s cultural naivety, mainly in the baseball scene at the end, almost reminds me of Starfire from Teen Titans. Someone who isn’t dumb, just ignorant of cultural norms and is still learning how to properly socialize.
He's so damn cool in the movie. It warmed my heart at the end to see him smile after he's been neutral or frowning for the whole film
Knuckles in this movie was absolutely excellent and amazing and i beg the producers not to dumb him down to give spotlight to Shadow but I do hope Rouge is there as a foil for him. The interactions will be brilliant

This movie introduced two new characters, why shouldnt the next one?
When I heard Paramount had no problem delaying the first film to redesign Sonic (even hiring Tyson Hesse), I felt my hope for humanity restored.
When I read Idris Elba had asked deep questions about this version of Knuckles (i.e. his motivations, backstory), I knew this character was in good hands.

IMO, my perfet "movie universe timeline" is the first two we've seen, SA2 (with mercenary/treasure hunter Rouge, and shadow vanishing at the end, but with a few Black Doom/StH references), the 4th movie actually going back to SA1, introducing Amy, Tikal, and Chaos, and then the 5th movie being a modified Sonic Heroes with Shadow being found in the pod, skipping Big and Cream and leaving the chaotix as a cameo, and Metal Sonic possibly being derived from Chaos, with more black doom info for Shadow. Then combine '06 and StH by making Black doom and the evil force from, '06 the same thing.
@@rakaydosdraj8405 Honestly, the rough part of SA1 is, the master emerald's creation process is actually covered pre-emptively. This means Chaos, if it does exist, never got sealed.

The way they treated not just Knuckles, but also Tails and Robotnik in these movies is just stellar, and I hope they do the same with Shadow and potentially Metal Sonic (I do hope he appears in the third movie)
Also, for the Knuckles TV Show, I really think the main antagonist should be Chaos. Bias aside, I would really think that Chaos being the main antagonist of that show could genuinely allow for an engaging story that both stays with the games as well as providing a threatening villain for modern audiences who both are and aren’t familiar with the games
As someone who has uncovered so much lost potential on this guy, it makes me feel pretty satisfied to see just how amazing they portrayed Knuckles here. Essentially having his killer aesthetic that he had in the 90s, while still having flaws and quirks that make him endearing without being tedious.
The fact that he is a beast of a warrior but portrayed as dumb because of our norms, is amazing to me because it shows how anyone can look dumb when they are in a new world. He isnt dumb just like a kid
This movie was single handedly responsible for making me love and appreciate Knuckles more than I did before watching it. Movie Knuckles is funny without being extremely stupid, he's not evil and is genuinely misguided, which makes it all the more satisfying when he finally learns the truth and joins Sonic, and the best part is that he never stops being a threat, regardless of the jokes at his expense, Knuckles is never portrayed as a joke and his presence is legitimately threatening. On top of the fact that after he joins the squad, he gets along with Tails and Sonic in a very wholesome and heartwarming way. Easily my favourite character so far out of both movies.

I still think the issue of Knuckles not Guarding the Master Emerald in Sonic Heroes could have been forgiven if Knuckles put someone in charge of temporarily guarding the Master Emerald for him, my personal choice being Mighty the Armadillo and possibly along with Ray the Flying Squirrel since they (Knuckles and Mighty) have a lot in common. If they did do this, they also should've mentioned this so it wouldn't seem like they forgot about the Master Emerald and Angel Island's existence.
This is a good point to make, however, i dont think knuckles did or even would put someone else in charge of gaurding the master emerald for him. the reason I say that is because no character in the sonic games is as devoted to protecting the master emerald as knuckles. in addition, the movie makes it clear that knuckles' only purpose is guarding the mater emerald, and he makes it clear that if he cannot fulfil his purpose, then he doesnt know why he is here. and while it is true that he does become a bit more laid back later into the games, he doesnt fully trust people to important or personal things for him. all im saying that while might be true, it just doesnt really add up.
@@Sonicspeeder2023 That 's true, so I think he needed a really, really good reason as to why he decided to go with Sonic and Tails to stop Metal Sonic.
I also think that if Knuckles was ever to be killed or turned evil, I think he would trust Sonic and Tails (as well as some members of the Chaotix) enough to guard the Master Emerald for him. For example, when Sonic returned the Master Emerald to Angel Island, he was his Super/Hyper form, had no one to stop him, had unlimited power from the Master Emerald, and could've left with it and never return, so when Sonic did return the Master Emerald to Angel Island, I think that should've been enough for Knuckles to trust or at least respect Sonic.

Alternatively, he can break apart the emerald and scatter it's fragments around the island to prevent it's capture. A better strategy though, If SA2 is to be believed, is to just manipulate it's size and carry it with him. Angel Island's ability to float doesn't protect it anymore, after all, so keeping the Emerald on the move, never in one place for too long, is a natural development that lets Knuckles take part in stories without needing a reason to have him there. He can still be hesitant to help out, since bringing attention to himself brings attention to the Emerald, but it's a much better solution than pretending the Emerald doesn't exist. This also adds potential for Knuckles to be given new abilities based on his possession of the Master Emerald.
Knuckles was amazing in Sonic 2, and I'm really hoping that Shadow is treated with the same level of respect in the 3rd movie.
I also hope that the Knuckles TV Show will have the Chaotix in it, that would be fun. I want Knuckles making new friends. Lol

He came out a badass, and with the 2000's games (especially Sonic Boom, both the game and cartoon series respectively, ugh!) really made him seem dumb. The Sonic 2 movie solidified his badass-ness, and for that, I'm nostalgically proud.*

Given the subspace levels are supposedly based around Sonic's memories, I wouldn't be surprised if the Knuckles with the Master Emerald were just memories and an excuse to pull another Generations and cater heavily to nostalgia.
I hope that the movie makers would do justice to shadow too and maybe if we ever get metal sonic, hope we could see a bit of the metal madness and overload forms of him, would literally explode me with excitement.
I relate so heavily to Knuckles in this movie. When Sonic reached out his hand and told Knuckles he doesn't need to be alone anymore, I broke down crying because it felt like he was saying it to me.
Honestly, the eyes part with knuckles when he powers up and uses a higher amount of his powers is honestly the terrifyingly awesome and threatening look he always needed!
what I like most about the movies is that you can really believe that the THREE are good friends, they have things in common as well as differences, they are not the same person and each one has their character arc that has to go, but they don't have to do it alone .
I have a feeling Sonic 3 can helped fix Shadow just like how they fixed Knuckles. Sega seems to be learning from their mistakes which I am happy they are.
The movie is made by original films and distributed by paramount, I doubt if it go well it's sega's doing! Still why not two birds one Stone and have Adam Driver play shadow?(it'll be Double redemption!)

@@Turtle22312 from what I heard the third movie will take inspiration from both sa2 AND shadow 05. So with that being said, I highly doubt shadow will die after fighting the bio lizard considering the fact that black doom will also be a thing. (Also if they want to depict 06, it would be a damn shame if shadow was dead and it will undermine Mepthiles' character considering that he's up and foremost Shadow's foil.)

I really liked how adaptable the movie showed Knuckles to be, and his loyalty was written well too in really subtle ways sometimes. For example: my favorite subtle thing in the movie was how Knuckles not only copied Sonic's "snowboard," but took it from a breaking robot. This showed how he wasn't breaking a perfectly functional robot, as that would be destroying his ally's functioning property. He takes the "board" from one that was damaged, hence how this snippet showed his loyalty to Robotnik and his adaptability in combat situations.

I'm surprised you didn't mention how knuckles is seen on angel island in that preview for the sonic frontiers short. Here's hoping that's a sign they're getting back to this form of Knuckles in the games sooner than we think.
I love Knuckles' movie design. While it won't happen, I'd love it if he had a redesign in the games to make him look a little more like that. Game Knuckles doesn't really look very strong, he just looks like he has big hands.
I think I speak for everyone when I say I was smiling in the cinema with a massive grin whenever knuckles was on screen. Whether he was being funny, strong, or vulnerable, his character was awesome. Considering how shit he is in recent games, I actually have faith these movie guys could do a good shadow and Amy too (another 2 characters I can’t say I’m ALWAYS a fan of when it comes to writing).

The films are great at explaining the basic story to people like me, who when the first film came out had little to no knowledge of the games, understood it perfectly and it made it feel like it wasn't just fan service.
I feel like this movie did Knuckles justice with all of his details. They even included the little detail about him liking grapes from the games. It’s just the little things that is good for me sometimes
Just started the video, but I will say one of the greatest parts of movie Knuckles is Idris Elba’s performance. He did such an incredible job.
If you think about the possibility of Enerjak or Chaos showing up the Owls had a point.
This second sonic movie was actually restoring tails too, with sort of being like sonic adventure how he was at first scared of some things but came to his senses and actually really helped out sonic and in a way went out of the way to be overall, well, a better character.

To be fair in post hero’s knuckles didn’t forget about the master emerald because in both of his story’s in the 2 rivals games the master emerald is the focus in hero’s in the last cutscene to team darks story they acknowledge the master emerald still exsists even though knuckles isn’t guarding it which means at the end rouge is basically going to probably steal it again. But back to my point the meta era in the main series has no call back of knuckles guarding the master emerald which he should have in lost world but nah screw that just make him useless in that game. AT LEAST IN O6 THEY GIVE HIM SOMETHING TO DO AT THE END! Where he goes to get a chaos emerald for sonic when he supposedly dies he’s doing it for one of his best friends, it’s not much in that game but, it’s something, but I see that knuckles got a hell of a lot more useless then he ever was in o6. And the dark era at least has some games which show him guarding the master emerald.
I think a better example of a Dark Era Sonic game would be from Sonic Chronicles; where, despite sharing some elements from the Archie Comics (and understandably won't be continued, due to not making a deal with Ken Penders prior to the release, but that's not gonna excuse Ken's behavior now, and that's not the point), they tried to expand on the idea of Echidnas that would've existed long after the events of the original Echidna Tribe, and even had Angel Island and the Master Emerald back to relevancy. I'd argue that, if you don't count the Sonic Forces Prequel Comic (because external storytelling not packaged with the game is not the way to go for me) Sonic Chronicles would come before Sonic Forces, because Forces feels more like a Fleetway ripoff (and probably is when IDW continues where Forces left off). Speaking of, at the end of Chronicles, Sonic and friends end up in a future where Eggman took control of Sonic's Home Planet; not only that, but it would be the last time Angel Island and the Master Emerald was relevant; because Angel Island no longer floats in Sonic Chronicles, and crashed on to Metropolis, with major damage to the floating island; no longer in the skies ever again.

And that means Angie island is still in the air and chronicles just never happen it’s all because of this stupid excuse of a writer who steals characters who don’t even belong to him or even made by him we will never see a remake unless paramount also gives justice to sega if and when because paramount has great lawyers beat dumb ass hole in court maybe they finally help sega to and give the rights of shade back to sega and the property/characters of Archie back to sega since archie is discontinued maybe if this happens they make a new new new reboot for a different follow up to archie. Hopefully. But as of now I’m not counting chronicles because of the lawsuit

Knuckles has always been my favorite Sonic character, seeing him actually being taken seriously is a small victory to me.
He doesn't seem so bad in the IDW comics. Well, at least from what I've seen in the Metal Virus saga. He's still a bit of a meathead but he's not getting clowned on as much.
Tangentially I heard Shadow was did dirty. But then again I'm not too familiar about how he is supposed to be depicted. I just recently got into the IDW comics thanks to Adrenaline Dubs.
Shadow was done dirty in the comics bc of segas stupid mandates of the character.
Shadow is more in character as a whole in the comics, but he's forced to make certain dumb decisions at key moments because of the mandates. There's a certain degree of egocentric jerk Sega is forcing Shadow to be (which is different from the no nonsense and independent traits he has).
I pray Infinite can come back and take over the "I can only rely on me" aspects of Shadow's character.

What puzzles me is why Shadow has been pushed into the type of character he is.
Iizuka basically led the Sonic Adventure 2 production as Yuji Naka was off making PSO, so you'd think with Iizuka being in charge after '06, Shadow would be treated appropriate based on his original design, but instead he flipped the coin hard onto the "Edgy the Hedgey" meme side and pretty much ruined him.
I really do enjoy knuckles in this movie. And i want to see how he reacts to learning that the knuckles may not have been the nicest/ most right people to guard the master emerald since as movie seems to imply
Idris Elba was such a great casting choice for Knuckles. It took me a bit to get used to hearing his voice but afterwards, I got used to it pretty quickly. Edit: I hope Frontiers is going to give Knuckles some justice for his character in past games, if he is in the game and especially with his prologue story with him guarding the Master Emerald

I feel like Boom Knuckles was a small step in the right direction, but it was kinda butchered by highlighting his naivety throughout the show. He was intelligent in some situations and is a caring character, but they still butchered it by making him the but of each joke. It was not AS bad like other games, but still bad.
I happy for his redemption arc, and wish the same for other Sonic characters!

I think this quote from Knuckles is pretty much the perfect representation of how smart Knuckles is, while still not fully understanding things. He's not just stupid, he asks a genuine question that I doubt any baseball player has ever even considered. There is actual logic behind the observation, and not just "idiot logic" either.
I hope the same things happen to Shadow in Sonic 3.

@@thepjshow The problem with Sonic characters is that ever since Sonic Unleashed, Sega wants Sonic to be playable and that's it. Most likely because people had issues with Knuckles emerald hunting in SA 2. Without that Sega doesn't know what to do with Knuckles in the 3d games. Movie Knuckles doesn't suffer from this because it's a film, not a game.

I feel like a good thing that needs to happen in the games is for knuckles to make the sacrifice of losing Angel island and understanding that the master emerald cant stay there because it will always be in danger and he rather bring it with him than stay with it. It would make a great character ark
Honestly, the changes they made for his backstory are actually all for the better Imo. For one they make more logical sense, where did Knuckles come from if his race was extinct and he's been alone on the island forever? Where were his parents? Also him not being tied to angel island and guarding the emerald *on* angel island where it must stay to avoid a worldwide calamity is fantastic. He can actually be apart of team sonic regularly now. Especially considering that they carry the emerald around with them and stuff. He can actually be a character with emotional motivations now, and it's great. The only time his current game backstory was used to it's potential was SA1 really.
It might be too late in the game universe to change him drastically in any of these ways, but if they ever reboot the universe to tell the stories again but better, these are the sorts of things that they'd be wise to change. Movie knuckles is just a way more well thought out character and if he became the new standard, I don't think many would be angry about it.
One thing I've yet to see anyone comment about on the 'dot dot dot' scene: Did anyone else notice that Knuckles understands English well enough to know that certain words are supposed to end in 'ing' even though it's cut off a lot in text speak (He says 'Nothing' when 'Nothin' appears, and 'Chilling' when 'Chillin' appears.) Not bad for a guy who hasn't been on Earth for the past 10 years.
Good news, game Knuckles may be getting his redemption arc too. In the teaser for the Sonic Frontiers prologue, he's actually doing his job and guarding the Master Emerald. Who knows what can happen when/if he shows up in the actual game, especially since the Chaos Emeralds are plot relevant again
Ive never been a knuckles fan. I got into sonic post-adventure, i never had the opportunity to know the original Knuckles, but reading the newer comics and watching the mania shorts gave me a glimpse into his ideal characterization. But this movie. This made me love knuckles, finally seeing the character the way he was meant to be. From what I’ve heard Elba jumped at the opportunity to voice the character, and was super passionate about learning the character and portraying him well and oh my god does it show.

I love how the Sonic movie franchise has gotten all the characters correct so far, Robotnik is like adventure Eggman, Knuckles did the same as he did in Sonic 3 and Knuckles (with voice acting I clearly say) , and even Tails isn't a coward ehm sonic forces, and Sonic, he is funny but has good jokes like in the adventure era. Well done Paramount!

Knuckles and Tails Get Redemption In this movie, Tails gets his brave mojo back, instead of being a coward like in modern Sonic games, Tails is my favorite character, I hate that in the modern games he became a coward type character, Knuckles is another favorite of mine, glad this movie gave him back who he truly was, they really made him make more sense of a character in this movie, instead of being a soft, quite dumb, poor written character.
Let’s hope movie knuckles in the 3rd movie (since that probably is gonna happen) doesn’t get pushed to the side…

Idris Elba was perfectly cast for Knuckles. In fact, this was the role that cemented to me that he would be the best choice for the voice of Tigatron and/or Tigerhawk in a new adaptation of Beast Wars if that ever happened again.
“Do I look like I need YOUR power?” That line was cold AF and honestly I imagined Tigerhawk saying that in Beast Wars.
Yeah, Knuckles in Sonic 2 was a perfect blend of badass and hilarious. Sure, they kind of just pulled a “Drax from GOTG 1” on him, but it worked to me.
I’m really looking forward to Sonic 3, Knuckles will be back and now we know Jim Carrey will be as well.
I'm glad the movies help bring back the characters we all know and love and not just jokes in the franchise.
Before I became a Sonic fan, i thought Knuckles was just a dumbass, silly strong guy. How wrong was I.
Something he never mentioned is how knuckles responded to new technologies he has never seen before. Like when he crushed that hologram of sonic and said that he was eliminated. That was funny but also showed his naivety towards technology.
One fascinating thing to watch when the VA's were announced was that the main reaction to Idris Elba as Knuckles was "YES! FINALLY!"
The internet having an overall positive reaction to ANYTHING is a miracle on its own, let alone anything Sonic related.
