You're forgetting that the x men comics had several revamps of the OS team even back then'so it would be tough to pull off due to trying to figure out who would work or not in terns of character and the overall plot
The first time I saw this episode I remember I was ecstatic haha. Because this was basically the first episode of the series where Wolverine was shown kicking proper butt. I bet this episode also cost significantly more due to the animation they needed to make Wolverine do that. Speaking of which BTW, I think poor funding was the reason they made Wolverine get his rear end kicked so much especially in the earlier episodes. For them to make him defeat his adversaries, they needed proper animation because he's a hand-to-hand combatant, he doesn't have any special combat powers. As a result, they had to let him just get his ass kicked most of the times LOL. At least that's my explanation for this very weird element of the series.

Because he doesn't necessarily need to slice people up with his claws and 2 , because they DID MAKE HIM WIN FIGHTS WITHOUT HIS CLAWS even in the first season. This excuse simply doesn't hold. In the episode Cold Vengeance he fought Sabretooth without using his claws with lethal effects very well. So not being able to let him use his claws to slice people up is a non-standing argument.
There was an episode in X-men Evolution that ended with the words “just one normal day at the institute” and moments before had Wolverine falling on his face in front of two mutant students.
if you shoot him with enough tranqs it will put him down for a short period. it the comics Deadpool was shoot with about 15 right to the face, and he was down long enough for Cable to cocoon him in duct tape to a chair
Remember, that this was during the long period when Wolverine did NOT have rapid healing factor: the time between him getting the adamantium skeleton and the "Fatal Attraction" saga (where Magneto rips out all the adamantium in Wolverine). during this time, his healing factor was much, much slower.
In the 90's cartoon his healing was WAY less than it was in the movies. A scratch from Sabertooth put him in the infirmary for days. He healed faster than a human, but could still be badly hurt. This Wolverine ain't shrugging off an atom bomb, and would have limited resistance to tranquilizers.

There's some bad blood between Logan and Alpha Flight. Wolverine was their original field commander on missions. Then, professor X contacted him and convinced him to leave Alpha Flight and Department H altogether. A lot of them felt betrayed by someone they had looked to as a leader and a friend.
