Brief history of the Hario Transmitting Station
1918: Construction started
1922: Completion
1941: Pacific War begins, coded message "Niitakayamanobore 1208" sent to all directions (probably)
1945: Pacific War ends, General Headquarters of the Allied Powers (GHQ) takes over.
1948: Operation begins by the Japan Coast Guard.
1954: Joint use begins with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
1997: Use of radio tower and communication station ends.
2009: Selected as "DOCOMOMO JAPAN Modern Movement Architecture in Japan".
2013: Radio tower and other facilities designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan, facilities open to the public.
2022: 100th anniversary of completion of radio tower, Sasebo City begins investigation of earthquake resistance, etc.
2023: Excavation investigation and public opening of Tower No. 1 foundation.
