Ryan's defense was weird- like he was trying a James Tony/Mayweather Jr. shoulder roll.
But it was more like "bend over turn your back to the opponent".
Better boxers would take advantage of that...
Yeah, he needs to work on that for sure. Duarte was one dimensional when Ryan used the roll and it would have been easy to pivot left to get better shots, but he didn't. He just stood there and ended up slumped on his knees.

I don't think I have ever seen a fighter turn his back to his opponent so many times in one fight. I think the ref should've given Ryan a warning about doing that. and deducted points if he kept doing it.

He didn't turn his back, he went into the shell and Duarte didn't make any adjustment. Duarte could pivot left and adjust his angle but he didn't. He kept hitting in the back of the head willfully and that's why he was warned. Duarte proved to be one dimensional when Ryan was in the shell. It would be a problem if Ryan learned to be use the shoulder roll more efficiently.

idk how I'm subscribed to Ryan's channel and still never knew this fight was happening. Oh well, glad to see him back in the ring. I can tell he's adapting his style. He's clearly working on trying to stay in the pocket. If he learns how to in-fight with his counter abilities it could be a wrap on the game. He's got a lot of work and punishment to take before that will happen though. It's one thing to stay in the pocket in practice, it's another to do it against a competent fighter. He's not immune to pain yet...If he can reign in all aspects of his game then he will certainly be a force to reckon with. I was also surprised to see his opponent not get up...they seemed like they could have, but hey, valiant effort.

No one ever said it's a "10 seconds" count. A 10 count is only until the ref counts to ten. The ref isn't a chronograph.

Turning your back in a boxing ring is a sign of Submission and defeat. Ryan should've been disqualified, but instead somehow Duarte was penalized. Atrocious stuff. And for the fans and commentators to behave as if it was a "shoulder roll" is disgraceful to those who used that method in the past.

Nothing new about the shoulder roll. What was new was that Duarte just stood there and never pivoted to his left so he could use his right hand effectively. He just stood there with feet fixed throwing rights to the back and back of Ryan's head. The ref did his job. It doesn't matter how Ryan pivots to use the shoulder roll. What you suggested is the same as trying to penalize a quarterback for scrambling because the defense didn't adjust to it. Duarte has to blame himself for being one dimensional.

No fighter, Mexican or any other needs to fit some stereotype of how people think they should box. You gotta be your own man in that ring. I think unfortunately Ryan has the same issue as Wilder. He has some bad habits and no matter who his trainer is, he just cant get rid of em. Still dropping his hands before throwing the power punch, still cocking back on his hooks, still forgetting he has feet attached to his legs andnhow to use them. Wish him the best moving forward but hes gonna keep having problems with top level guys without cleaning these things up. Congrats on the win though

It was a good fight and Duarte couldn't handle Ryan's power. Duarte also couldn't adjust to the shoulder roll by stepping to his left. That's why he ended up slumped on his knees for 10 seconds. Nothing lucky about it.
