  • This is a thought exercise, based on a video that @ChrisSaenz13 made. (Huge thanks to her for all she does, and for inspiring me to do this.)
    Obviously I love all of my pens, but these are the ten (plus honorable mentions) that I would repurchase first if I had to start over again. The rule I set for myself was that I could only feature ONE model per maker.

    I love how you have a blend of pens from well-known brands as well as from smaller makers, and different price points. I don't think I could ever narrow mine down to 10!

      @MariaRosseau  Před rokem +1

      Thank you! It was really tough to whittle it down to 10! I think if I hadn't put a rule in place for myself to do only one pen per manufacturer it would have been more difficult... especially when it comes to TWSBI. Hahahah
      I did also try to take into account everything about the pen when making my choice. Is the Platinum Preppy the best pen ever? No, but its really low price makes it SO GOOD to have around!

    I'm happy to see the Lamy 2000 represented. It reminds me a bit of how I like to think of myself. It's kind of plain to look at without any fancy flourishes, but it's dependable, reliable, and always gives its best.
    Uh-oh, the pen po-po is on to you.

      @MariaRosseau  Před rokem +1

      It's funny, I don't think of the Lamy 2000 as "plain", but rather as understated. It's classic. You wouldn't know that it has had the same design for nearly 60 years just by looking at it - it fits in well with designs from today!

    Hi Maria! This was so much fun ... you've got such beautiful and unique ones in your top 10!!! I see a blue theme!!!! One of my most beloved pens I won in a drawing it's my Hinze Custom Blue Storm and it would have made my repurchase list had I purchased it lol. So glad you made this video!!! And, I totally agree that the Preppy's are great for intro into fountain pens ... my brother got started with a Preppy!!!!

    I tried to look up the Santini but their website just wouldn't load properly. I got their home page but couldn't get through to any of the details on a specific pen. I'll try again later.
    I would also re-buy my TWSBI Vac700R Iris. Love that pen. And I own more than a few of the Platinum Preppys. I eyedroppered all of mine. That works for a while, but then they seem to start blooping ink and that was annoying. Cartridges might be the solution.
    Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed seeing your (mostly blue) pens!

    • @MariaRosseau
      @MariaRosseau  Před rokem +1

      Their website is SO SLOW, always. I've found that not infrequently with smaller sites from abroad. I really love the look of their faceted pens, but right now I can't justify the price, for myself. Considering one as a memento/reward for something I'm planning for next year. heh
      Glad you enjoyed this video! I enjoyed looking over my pens and thinking about them in this way. I think it also really helped me appreciate what I already have.

    The Franklin Christoph, no doubt. They make the smoothest writing pens! I wanted to hate the Lamy 2000 just because everyone thinks it’s so darn special. Then it turns out to be as nice as they claim. Well, shoot! So I’d get those two again.

    • @MariaRosseau

      The Lamy 2000 is just... so good. Hard to believe it has been around for so long and STILL a major contender.

  • @ironmic9244

    McKenzie Resins makes the Orion. I think it's cool that you have 2 of the same resins, just one matte and one polished. I like the Santini. Looking to get an ebonite faceted pen in the future. Would also agree on the 2000, but the good thing about that one is I am going to get the replacement nibs. I have the steel version. I think a Newton pen is going to get my list, but I want something really specific. I wonder if it could be done? All these pens were purchased this year?

    • @MariaRosseau
      @MariaRosseau  Před rokem

      Hmmm, I don't think these are all from this year, no. I also think it's fun that I wound up picking the same resin twice. And thank you for telling me the resin maker! I'm also thinking of getting a Newton in maybe the Prospector model, one day. Something more unusual.

      @@MariaRosseau I am thinking if he can get his hands on some rare celluloid, buy an M1000 replacement nib, send it to him to fit on the celluloid body and custom grind the nib. Ooooooh it'll be sweet, no one will have that kind of pen, and everyone will be jealous and it'll be mine. All mine. Muhahahaha. Patent pending.

    Preppy is my absolute favorite pen! I'm an extra fine writer and it's hard to find nibs that write very very thin lines smoothly. Preppy 02 is that! Pilot writes just as fine but it's kinda scretchy and more expensive. I'm Platinum all the way. I like how Lamy is consistent. They are built to least. Mine is from the 90s. My father gave me his because he didn't use it anymore but I had to change the nib to a chinese imitation EF so I can use it. Writes really well but too wet in my opinion, so it's my headlines pen.

    • @MariaRosseau
      @MariaRosseau  Před rokem +1

      The Preppy is so much better than one would expect based on price and looks alone! I think it's pretty great that you were able to find a nib that allows the Lamy to work for you in at least some capacity. :)

    • @cferracini
      @cferracini Před rokem

      @@MariaRosseau It really is. My first Preppy fell on the floor (capped) several times in the 3 years we have been together and has no real demage. Just some small superficial scratches. Might not be as durable as a Lamy, for example, but it's a lot more durable than you would expect for the price.

    Between the Laban Skeleton and the Twsbi Iris which do you prefer for everyday writing?

    • @MariaRosseau
      @MariaRosseau  Před rokem +2

      For me? The TWSBI, for a couple reasons. The easiest reason is that the nib is B in my TWSBI and F in the Laban. If both were the same size, I'd probably still pick the TWSBI, but that's because I have a bad habit of having a DEATH GRIP on my pen, so the metal section of the Laban is just a little more uncomfortable. But if I took both of those things out of the equation, I might pick the Laban, if I was using non-shimmer inks. The nib on it is really nicely bouncy. Hope that helps!
