In my opinion, Ricky Skaggs, is the best choice to carry on the tradition that Bill started. There are plenty of bluegrass singers and bands, but I believe Skaggs best embodies what Monroe started, and is best suited to carry it forward.

I saw Ricky in concert in Knoxville Tennessee in the early 80's. I remember it snowed that day but that didn't keep us away. It was a great concert and so much fun. My hubs and I went with my brother and sister-in-law. We hadn't been married long. I'll never forget that night. I'm a Tennessee girl and love some good bluegrass that I can tap my foot to. Always loved Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder! 💙 God bless 'em.

About '94 or '95, the wife and I saw Bill Monroe at Heartwood Acres at a free outdoor concert put on by Allegheny Co., PA. Between songs, Bill commented on the size of the crowd, which was quite large. He even, at one point, took photos of the audience during the show, something I've never heard of any other live entertainer ever doing. I made my way 300' or so to the stage and requested "In the Pines," which they played. Great show.

I had forgotten just how downright GOOD these men were (RIP Bill Monroe). I had to laugh at Monroe's expression at one moment: when they are crowding the mic, Rikki reaches up and tips Bill's hat away from his head in mid lyric. Always a pro, Bill finishes the lyric, then gives Rikki a 'quizzical' look. Wonderful gem!

I'm from Rosine Kentucky, my dad was born in Uncle Pens' cabin. I'm Still currently located here and would not have it any other way. My Grand Parents and Dad and other kin always said that Bill Monroe never wanted to work, and all he wanted to do was play music...Me being a musician myself have to politely tell them that music is work, it's also an art...I had to work to learn my instrument. We still have great bluegrass here in Rosine every weekend at the barn...I don't play bluegrass myself, I'm more into rock n Roll,or Blues but I still love being in Rosine Ky.

In 1975 I saw Bill Monroe in Louisville Ky. in a club called The Great Midwestern Bluegrass Hall. ( I was told later Bill did not approve of alcohol). Late in the evening the crowd was getting loud. and he actually waved his band off midsong and told us, "IF YOU CAN'T KEEP TIME, DON'T CLAP. YOU'RE THROWING THE BAND OFF!....Spanked by the father of bluegrass. You could have heard a pin drop.

Last time I seen Ricky Scaggs was in my dad's basement Ronnie Smith aka (Butch) with Allison Krause and my uncle Pepper Smith gearing up in Mansfield Illinois for the town festival about 33 years ago or so. Then out of nowhere I heard ur name being called on stage last night at the covered bridge festival in Elizabethton TN. So I said what the hell and stuck around and glad I did. Ur still an amazing musician and wanted to thank you for bringing back memories I didn't know even existed. I've struggled so hard in this life that I can't remember half my life. I'm actually thinking about playing again and teach my boys the music I learned on the riverbanks of Livingston KY. With some of the worlds best bluegrass pickers. If ur ever in east Tennessee and need backup I'm only a phone call away. Thanks again.
