Finnegan Fox, Vixie, and Dixie go to the vet!

- Time for some routine blood work and health exam and some of our older foxes.
Dixie, Finnegan, and Vixie are between ages 4-6. which really isn't that old considering foxes can live until 15 in captivity. In the wild a Red Fox will TYPICALLY only live 2-3 years. So I consider 5 years old still old for a fox! By now the foxes metabolism has slowed down and some health issues can start arising. Luckily for Finnegan and his friends all results came back healthy, but they could benefit from loosing a few pounds.
Popular opinion: Foxes are wild animals.
Finnegan: Does better at the vets office than most cats and dogs.
@S R lol.
cuz Finn is a good boi
Yup, we have a feral cat that needs to be sedated whenever we take her to the vet.
I would love to see how Leo does. I bet he’s feisty.
Was about to comment that but yeah he is surprisingly well behaved kid... Not just him Dixie and Vixie too :)
And here I was thinking it would have been mayhem. They're angels, absolute angels.
Right! So well-behaved
@Bunt Cakes Yeah I expected Dixie to complain, as she can be a bit moody sometimes. But I guess she is too shy at the vet to even get moody haha 😋
Like I said...they took their shots better than *I* do.
They’re better then my dogs
It’s usually mayhem with cats.
The vet is so gentle and patient with the foxes.
Sorry if i sound cynical, but he IS making a shitload of money treating the foxes, probably helps with being nice :) Not saying it's the only reason, of course.
@@sneezebiscuits7239 I'd treat them like gold no matter how much I was being paid.
Truly ❤️
@@sneezebiscuits7239 if I’m not mistaken, SaFis located somewhere in Minnesota (likely rural because “duh”), so the overhead is probably low for the vet. Not all vets make “a shitload of money.”
@@chipsandcase-o5738 Yes, they're in Minnisota, just north of the Iowa line. There's licenses and stuff the vet has to have, too, and for exotics that's not exactly cheap. So if you're a vet who's willing to put in the extra work to see pet foxes, you're going to be making good money. This is about $1,000 worth of vet work here, just for basic checkups (going based on the $300 per year vet fee Sponsors have to pay). Where you start making a "shitload" of money is in specialized surgery, even with normal pets. Valentine costs Mikayla a small fortune to keep healthy because of his gums.
THAT SAID. I know plenty of vets who charge those prices for regular dogs and cats and still had bad reputations...
I need Finnegan's calmness when it comes to needles.
He's such a good boy.
I wish I could be calm too. 😞
Needles scare the shit out of me
I don't mind needles, but i see why people are scared of them.
Mutt would help the vet put it in
I use a salve that deafens the nerves, since i have an increased nerve-touch stimuli reaction (thats blamed on my autism spectrum) the only thing i feel with needles now is that they are there. The worst part is the stiff arm after
My heart melted when Vixie buried her head in Mikayla's chest. The way Finn, Vixie and Dixie trust and love Mikayla is so heartwarming.. 💖💖🦊
@S R Oh they LOVE our armpits! 😄 It's where they can pick up the strongest of our scent, even if we just showered, there's still some of our nice, comfortingly scent our furry family loves.
I don't understand that myself, lol, but they do!😂
@@zxyatiywariii8 my buddy had a cat the absolutely loved my armpits
Vixies like mom I'm scared of needles
Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna... You Just got rickrolled in the comments. How does that make you feel?
@@user-mw4fg7bf3h I like getting rickrolled, the song is nice, I feel good, thank you stranger
As long as his mom is holding him he's okay.
worlds best fox mommy.
Facts
Them*, they all were clinging to Mom)
True, and equally important is how Mom is keeping calm. It can be hard to do, but the calmer we are, the safer our furry family will feel.♥️
Mikayla was meant to be a fox mom
They're so calm, they really trust their human friend.
Yeah, but look what that got Malachi 👀
Mother
I suspect they're more freaked out and frozen than calm.
@@abnunga If they were freaking out then they’d be freaking out.
@@BijinMCMXC Not necessarily. I had a feral-born cat who would act like this at the vets. He was terrified on the inside and kind of froze up, so outwardly he looked super chill and calm. (Country feral cat, not the same as city strays that get called feral)
It’s amazing these animals tolerate the vet visit and procedures. A testament to the level of trust they’ve built.
Wow, Dixie is an angel!! The way she screams in all the videos I thought she'd bring the clinic down!
She was so calm… despite not being in her favourite place… sitting on Mikayla’s head! 😛
@@davidburke2132 Yeah! She could've insisted on being upon her throne for the scary bits! 🤣
This is the first time I've seen a vet help block an animal's ears from scary sounds! 🥰
Edit: And then the vet's chuckle and the assistant's ear massage!
I'm dying of wholesome rn.
The trust these wild animals have on the girl is unbelievable.
1:48 Finnigan's face has that "you're lucky my mother is here otherwise you'll be feeling my wrath hooman"
Yeah i wanna know what's the cut on the video they did right before this. I think it was finn saying "if you fail my vein more then twice, I'll kill you"
He is so well behaved! Like he understands that the vet is helping him. Smart little fella that Finnegan fox is!
I love how Mom is making their world safe wherever they are.
Fin looks so scared! Cuddling up to his mum for support! Poor baby... we love you, fin!
I am very happy the foxes are in great health. Especially Finnegan, because he's an Architect construction worker building fox holes Condominiums.
Finnegan is such a good boy! Wow, he trusts you completely!
Aww, they were really well behaved at the vet! I was just reading that the life span of the average fox in the wild is 2 - 6 years and that only 50% of foxes in the wild make it past 2 years old. However, foxes in captivity can live up to 14-15 years with the right care and environment. These foxes are very lucky! Long live the foxes!
Two-to-six years is so short. Sad.
@@scottcharney1091 they have to fight with predators for their survival. Many times older foxes too kill the kits of another. So, they don't survive very long in the wild.
@@scottcharney1091 Yeah, so many things can get you out in nature. Foxes have pretty fragile bone structures, so a broken leg is basically a death sentence in the wild. There's rabies, distemper, all manner of bacterial infections, predators, poisonous plants, the weather... That's not even counting human-caused things such as traps (both legal hunting and poaching), pesticides, our dogs and cats (both of which can kill foxes) and habitat loss.
I wouldn't say that. They are neutered and don't live a fox life. A fox roams and breeds and does what he likes. But these are rescued. And most seem very happy. Though not all.
We don't hunt much fox here in Denmark. I don't think cats kill foxes, it's more the other way around. Scabies is the biggest problem for foxes here.
I didn't know Finn had Alergies. Poor baby.
Yeah, poor little finnegan.
When you saw a lot of videos in the past months where Finn had eye boogers, that was because of the allergies
She talked about it in like the last few videos. She even removed eye boogers on camera.
Probably it's human stuff - the SAF place is right next to a road too, so engine fumes may add to it some.
Vets will invent maladies when they know they can get away with it..
And i dont care who they are...Not saying that is the case here...But it all plausable...
I am sure they will all give dramatic renditions of their suffering at the hands of the evil mad scientists to Muttias once they get home
Amazing how good they all are, when I think how stressed out & difficult some peoples house pets behave.
My girl Vixie likes hospitals as much as I do, bless her heart
my queen Vixie ❤
I love how calm and quiet the doc and his team acted!
Man these foxes are calmer than me during a blood draw
I've had blood taken so many times i became apathetic to it
I’m fine with needles, just as long as I can’t see the blood!
@@Nena_Eylici well when I get blood drawn they use a huge needle and shove it up my wrist and even if I look away I can feel its awful pain
@@Handlesarestoopid sounds like torture 😬
@@Handlesarestoopid really? They have a special huge needle reserved just for you? Maybe in your brain its large but its probably a 24 gauge, Lol.
I just imagine Mutt having some sweet alone time in the yard XD
Or the opposite haha. Waking up from a nap and slowly realizing everyone disappeared!
"Sweet solitude! . . . Where is everyone?"
Mutt: I'm gonna run nekid!!! Woo-hoo!!! 😂
He's partying with the Cats.
The cats probably threw a party 😁
Somehow even with a needle in his shoulder finn is smiling heck I even remember when Dakota and malakiah went to the vet
It’s Mikayla
@@charlotteginis I meant the fox named malakai
@@kjh23gk Auto correct then Google and it showed malakai from the bible
They’d better correct the name in the next version of the Bible.
Finn is just very happy boi
Oh Finnie, he was such a good boy! I didn't expect him to behave so well at the vet. I hope he got a few treats on the way back home.
What about Dixie and Vixie? Don't they also deserve a few treats?)
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 of course they do! They all deserve to be spoilt after their check-up.
Such a handsome boy, and so well behaved.
The only vid of Finnegan without a "hehe."
They're so cute. I'm glad they're all healthy! ^_^
Thank you for showing this! My dad is a veterinarian and does exotics as well. This video brought back memories of me helping my dad at wildlife rehab facilities when he was called out when I was a kid.
So, my wife's Green Anaconda , gets bumps on her. We load her up, it takes both of us, she let's us, and drive her to our vet. He's the best; our go-to...we luv him. Vet says, "I don't do snakes. No way.". Wife says otherwise... He gives in. Sticks her bumps for a sample. She raises her head and just watches. Comes back and pumps her full of anti-biotics... and she was so cool throughout. No more bumps. And she's a dangerous snake.
Anaconda as a pet? Are you for real?
@@aleksandralempart8305 Yes. My wife was/is for real. Not a pet. A snake being cared for. She also has/had two Pilbara Pythons. Eleven feet long. Would take them out into the yard to explore. The Crown Jewel was her Reticulated Python. Eight feet. One hundred and twenty pounds. Again, not pets... They aren't dogs and cats. Just caring for them. Rescues...
Wow! I thought for sure this vid would be full of screeches and mayhem.
Nothing but a good boy, two good girls, and a bunch of good humans!
Thank god their were ok and healthy
Wish u the long live Vix

They looked so nercous and stressed, and I imagine without Mikayla's presence they probably would've been freaking out! It's so sweet how much they trust you
OMG, those foxes knew they safe and trusted being held in there mums arms, no dramas, amazing. Its like they knew what's being done for them is for the good.
Finny, Dixie and vixxi handling that blood work better than most humans!! Well done brave foxes
A very good boy. It's because he trusts his Mommy. I've taken cats to the vet for various things. They'll endure. Obviously, pettins and treats are required. Animals know when you honestly care for them

Aww, Vixie!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭💖💖💖💖 Hiding her cute little face away from the big scary doctor!!!! Baby!!!! 💘💘💘💘
Only 2-3 years in the wild? That's crazy. I looked up why they have such short lifespans and most results were that they just starve to death because their food sources are depleting. That is so sad.
Aw :( i didnt know that either.
In a good home foxes typically live 8-10 years and there have been reports of up to 15 years (but that seems to be rare, like a human living to be 120).
@@George89999 so finn vixie and dixie only have 2-3 yrs left. There around 5-6 yrs old maybe.older mikayla doesnt know exactly they were pet surrenders
@@JustaKarenDiscoveredTheIntrnet Dixie turned 4 on the 8th of April.
@@JustaKarenDiscoveredTheIntrnet Hopefully up to 4-5 more years depending on their age and other factors out of anyone's control (such as genetics). At least they seem to be fairly healthy, other than Finnegan being a bit too eager at the Snack Shop.
What a relief to see foxes getting checked up! Especially Finn, and Dixie Do. When i saw Finn battling the heat, he looked bad off.I am glad They are all in good health. Thanks. Peace!
Last year it was the same... I think it is getting warm before they can leave their fur coat.
@@AnonymousBosch3158 Agreed, It is super hot. and the fires are making it harder to breathe too! Peace!
And sweet baby Vixie.
Seemed like a really kind Vet, some of the bravest foxes out there, and of course, the most loving fox mum x
"I thought this was Save a Fox, not Shave a Fox!" -Finnegan, probably.
They don't want to be at the vet anymore than any dog or cat. But they did really well. And that is because they were raised well and have a good mom.
Finns face at 1:50 haha “you’re lucky mama’s holding me back right now”
Dixie's just under 17 pounds! So much character in someone so smol.
Finnegan's so calm!
It's so clear to see you are their save-spot. Bless you.
I'm absolutely surprised that Dixie, who is the most moody of the fantastic four, did the best at the vet. ❤️
All of the foxes are so well behaved and calm!
I love how when finn is sitting he puts his head against mikayla’s chest, so cute ❤️

I don't think they had a choice. Their heads were being held there 🤦🏻♂️

@@justinium77 they didn't act up tho. very brave indeed 👏
@@gdc6153 Being brave isn't a concept to animals. Their brains aren't developed enough to counter for that notion. What they act upon is instinct and, considering that they have been conditioned to live with humans, they have purely acted as conditioned.

I wish I could help some of the foxes that live on the streets here in England. Covered in mange, limping, ticks, fleas it’s awful. And a spay neuter program would be so good, as there are so many. And all they do is struggle to survive, get run over, poisoned by nasty people. Xx
Have a fox by where I live who I call snake because it looks like they have been in a few scraps. Has fur missing and part of their tail is missing yet whenever I see them on my way to work at 3am they are at the front drive looking at me, I look at them and I try to give them a treat.

incredible hyperactive foxes that I've seen in the past two-three months and look how they're acting at the Vet..

Such good foxes...
You are so sweet when you comfort them. I kiss my dog on the head too when I have to hold him for the vet. :-) Amazing work you and your crew are doing to save these beautiful animals.
The always quiet Vixie was panting so much it was making my heart break 😭
Aww, Finnegan is being as good as gold!
I genuinely thought the foxes would go nuts at the vet. They act cool as ice though, one hell of a bond they have with mikayla, thats for sure.
Can't recall how I stumbled upon your videos, but that's immaterial. I've watched quite a few over the past couple of days and am enthralled. My mother and sister are so similar. They have a dozen cats, three horses, thirtyish hens and two dogs between them and their daily routines are just the same as yours.
I just have a mere 17 cats who allow me to be their human in exchange for twice daily feasts and muchos cuddles. I've often wondered what a fox would be like in a "tame/domesticated" environment. They seem to be a canine dominant mixture of dogs and cats. Adorable.
What you do is awesome. Thanks.
Mikayla....you are one in a billion! Absolutely an amazing human being!
What a lovely vet!
I have a compromised immune system but had to have a hospital stay during Covid and caught it. Lost my sense of smell and taste completely and the doctor is 100% right, despite my stomach growling I had NO desire to eat for over two weeks. It was a nightmare, especially since I struggle with low weight anyway. Poor Finn, it's no fun!

Trust is an amazing thing. They completely believe in you to protect them and do the best thing for them, even if it hurts a little. Funny that the stethoscope was the most bothersome - not the needle or the clippers. I was oddly the same way as a kid. Didn’t mind shots or even stitches that much. But something about pressing that cold stethoscope on my skin is very unsettling. Makes me nervous thinking about it.
