Attacked by a Mountain Goat

- August 3, 2022. Near Kangaroo Pass, Okanogan County, Washington.
A nanny mountain goat and her kid came running into my camp. Then she slowed down as she got close (about the time I start filming). I tried to keep a boulder between us, but then she jumped on top of the boulder towards me and was getting ready to jump again at me when I used my bear spray.
Sorry I only got audio of the actual charge and spraying, keeping from getting gored distracted me from my camerawork. This all went down pretty fast; I estimate that it was about 20 seconds from when I first noticed them until I used the spray.
The spray was only moderately effective. I had to yell and chase and throw rocks to get her to leave faster. (Her kid was not a concern, they were just going wherever mama went.)

Feel your panic. We got chased by a group of mountain goats in glacier np recently. They can be super aggressive

Wow never knew they did that glad your safe
I have seen a lot of goats over the years, and only one other time was I in real fear of my safety. And that one was my fault, it was early in my backpacking experience, and I was the one who not knowing better approached the goat and got too close.
But this incident was the only time one ever got that close to me. Definitely the most aggressive one I have ever encountered, although the first time was a pain too. I kept that one at distance by throwing rocks, didn't have bear spray then.
Honestly, I think they are maybe more dangerous than bears. Although not especially so, as long as you can keep them at distance.

At that moment I was worrying more about not getting gored than I was the camera. I would've liked to have gotten the shot, but safety comes first.
