Bol-anon Artists Series: Joseph Gara - Harana (Visayan Love Song)

Bol-anon Traditional Artists Series - In my search for traditional singers in Bohol, one name keeps popping up from the locals - Joseph Gara. Although Joseph is a pop/folk singer/songwriter, his roots are in traditional Visayan songs having learned them from his grandmother. It’s rare to find a young artist interested in and practicing traditional love songs. Even rarer still, in Visayan, not Tagalog, and creating a modern iteration of the old songs.
It was a pleasure meeting Joseph and we have plans to collaborate in the future. Stay tuned!
This song or ‘kansyon’ as Visayans call it, is titled Harana. Thank you to all who responded to my previous post looking for Bohol traditional musicians. This is just the beginning and I'm so excited partnering with the Bohol arts community!

According to local elders . This particular song ay kinakanta bilang panimulang kanta sa pang haharana which is stated at the first verse of the song with its translation:
Hangyoon ko imung pasaylo
-Hiningi ko ang iyong pagpapatawad
Sa akong pagtugaw kanimo
-Sa aking pang iistorbo
Tugoti nga ako mag sampit
-Hayaan mong kita'y tawagin
Tugoti nga ako mag awit
-Hayaan mong akoy umawit
