Nice review, Mike. I just bought an i8 a couple months ago, same color as yours, but it's the Roadster convertible model. Absolutely love this car. It is such a joy to drive and look at. It's hard to describe the driving experience to others, so if really want them to know, I just have to let them take a spin. People cannot resist it.
I know right. I have since sold mine to finance my business but Im hoping to pick up another one within a year or so

@@RDDC_Official no problem man. Its badass but i think ur e92 is a lil bit more badass. Cause of the transmission. But its cool the i8 is nice and gets alot more attention for sure then a e92.
@@mcp08gt Yeah the gearbox isn't as good as the M3, in my opinion. And it will still automatically shift in manual mode. I'll detail all the quarks in later videos. But at least you can see why I kept the M3 :)

Great deal.I've been trying to like the i 8..like you I have had 8 bmws.the tech part of the car is straight out of the future.I don't like the exhaust speakers..it dont need them the car sounds ok w/out the speaker.
Yeah the fake sound takes some getting used to. My grip is the sound system haha. Complete garbage compared to the M3. But overall the car has been pretty cool

When I get my life together I'm gonna get buy damaged one from auction with limited damage and slowly rebuild it. Hopefully in like 3-4 yrs it will be even cheaper and can do it less than 20k
Rich Rebuilds just did this. All fixed $36k total. Not bad
@@RDDC_Official Yeah I was just watching the series, wish it was a bit longer seems he only had to fix that rear suspension and axle. My range now is 15k lmao, but I'm thinking in 3 years or so the 20k auctions for damage like rich rebuilds will be 10k. Maybe that's too hopeful though.
No videos show dropping the gas engine but the things so small cant be too bad. Seems like a very rebuildable car with the body pieces mounting and stuff. Do you know if you can run just the gas engine system if the battery system is tanked?
I dont see the car dropping in price that much more. But I've been wrong many times. I just don't see the car being available cheap enough a 20 year minimum wage kid can buy it. Since its being discontinued I can see the price going up. This past year alone it started at $72k, dropped to $60k now back up to $66k.

I was always a fan, just never envisioned owning one. Then I made a mistake by driving it :) This is a great value per price point car right now. Not worth the $150k new though

You're right about that. I went a cars and coffee in Scottsdale last weekend and the car got so much attention it was ridiculous! The Lamborghini Huracan right beside me got no love at all! I was surprised how well it did in a sea of Lambos, Ferrari's, and McLaren's. There was a LaFerrari and Senna there!
Thank you for this great review. I would like your advise before buying a used i8. Is somehow a way to check the condition of the batteries? and the other question is that in countries like Greece where are too high temperatures during summer period, does the heat affect the long term usage of the batteries? From your experience is something that the buyer needs to be aware of before buying a used car like this?
I'm creeping on 6 months with the car so im about to do a real 6 month review. I didnt want to drive it for a week and give a review. Long term reviews are much better
BMW gives 8 Years Warranty on the Highvoltage Battery so nothing to worry.
Temperatures in hot Countries should be no Prob,

Very true. Prime time to get one. We all think the depreciation has leveled off. Im sure I might take another $10k hit but thats fine. I don't see this car going to $15,000 where every 16 year old can buy one
Have the prices dropped since you bought it? I'd really like to get one, but it seems that the prices have gone up in the last year or so in Europe.
Price has gone up on the 14,15,and 16 models about $3000-$5000 from what I can see. On the private market though you can find people offloading for better than market value prices.

mmm => they tune it to 74 hp extra but i do not know if that is healthy for a 1.5 Liter motor and with the extra torque it can go up to 2.9 sec from zero to 60 :-O
at least i've seen one for sale that was tuned in Germany i do not know if there is a difference in the USA ;-)
Yes its not. That's why I went with the stage one only. Stage two would give me like 15-20 more hp but higher stress to the engine and risk of blowing my mini Cooper powerplant

Hey thanks man! Price was $66,000 for a CPO. Maintenance I bought the 2 year maintenance warranty so everything is paid for. Insurance is super cheap. For my i8, 08 M3, and 12 Fiat 500 it's like $229 a month. The car is very practical and affordable compared to a lambo or Ferrari. The attention will be more or just as much. Im.gonna say more

I had moved to NY...but yes I'm back in AZ. Moved back in February. Bought a nice big house, 3 car garage, and already out of space haha! So the i8 is the new project. Once I finish with that I'll be doing a high mileage refresh series for the E92 M3. And...I'm putting the 95 M3 back to stock. Already bought so many parts. Buying a soda blaster this weekend to start stripping it down. Lots in the plans

Man I thought hard about picking up a C8. Problem is, everyone is gonna trade out their C7's for a C8. Love the look but I like to be a bit more unique and the i8 was it. I hope I can make the videos more watchable. I'm trying to do less talking and more showing....harder than it seems haha

At the rate they are at...buy one and write off the mileage. That way you can enjoy the car and do what you want to it. It's literally a bargain at that price. The 2019 is not much different. 10 more miles to the range. That's basically it

That's a hard one. I can try to narrow it down. A ton of people have vettes. GTRs are cool if you're into JDM. The i8 will be extremely rare to see. Performance the GTR and vette. For attention, 4.2 seconds, a spaceship looking future car...the i8. I just got back from a show. The i8 got the most attention out of everyone. Kids were crazy excited, judges were happy a car like that showed up. Young and old, both genders...throughly enjoyed the car.
RDDC That’s awesome, that’s how I feel every time I see one drive by me 😂, spoke to another guy, he said the oil changes are 800 dollars? That’s ridiculous! What’s the most expensive thing on the car? I don’t really mind it since it won’t be my main car but jeez.
Ok if you are competent an oil change will be $50. Theres nothing different about the petrol engine than any other car. You're just hearing about an i8 tax. Essentially charging you more cause of the car. This is nonsense. People are doing their own oil changes with ease. But, bringing it to a dealership, be prepared for a high cost. Mine is under factory warranty and maintenance warranty. But, I will still learn about the car. And that's what my channel is about, learning to work on your own car and exposing how much stuff really cost vs a dealership tax. I personally think you'll love the i8 and it will put you in a league that will be hard to grasp. Let me explain. A ferrari owner was scared to lose to my car. He paid $130,000 for a 2006 car vs me paying $66k or you paying $50k. For the money, its hard to beat. You really are buying something special.
RDDC You literally just had the light bulb go off in my head. It’s surreal thinking anyone else but bmw would be doing the maintenance on the car, I apologize for my laziness. I’m not going to miss this opportunity due to fear of little things that can be done and learned off of an enthusiast. All that M3 work slipped my mind but now I’ve been awaken! Tough question. The M8 is nice. I've looked at it in person. Both are completely different cars. I've been trying to get away from traditional cars myself. I'm really into the newer tech, but that's me. Right now I'm preferring the i8. The attention you get will surpass that of the M8. Hard to beat that futuristic look. Yeah the battery range sucks. Yeah its underpowered, but the looks make up for that 100%

And the attention comes from old granny down to little kids. Everyone seems to appreciate the look. I had even a ferrari guy tell me at a show he was scared he wasn't gonna win because he saw my car. But he, nor I, win that day 😂

Just after I bought it, my wife and I were leaving a restaurant after dinner and my wife says, "there is a lady at your window trying to get your attention. I rolled down the window and she gushed about the car for several minutes, including how she wants one more than any other car. She wanted to take pictures and I was glad to oblige. This kind of thing happens whenever a take it anywhere. Thanks for all the time you put into your reviews, Mike.

Sure but it wont be a CPO. And maybe not a 2016. I've been watching the price trend on the i8 and its actually trending up! The value had dipped to $62,000 now the average is back up to $67,000. Quite remarkable already
RDDC I don’t think they will fall below 50k since it’s still a fairly limited production car.

Not sure where you got those figures. Stock its 4.0, tuned its 3.8-3.9. Funny how thats slow these days. Literally .3 seconds makes a difference between whats considered fast and whats not. But when your neck snaps in the car when the pedal is mashed you wont be worrying about a .3 of a second

Mine has been in the shop twice. First time was for a rubber wire loom that splits from the door. The other time a check engine light from the charging port. Dealer wiped the computer and redone everything. Other than that nothing

Yeah it has the factory warranty still until this year ends and I bought a service warranty that has paid for itself 3x over already with the 2 times its been in the shop. All work has been free (well warranty paid for)
