The BMW i8 is the Prius of the supercar world... if you consider it a supercar. It has a carbon fiber chassis, doors that go up, insane good looks, but all of that is coupled with a hybrid system powered by a 3 cylinder range extender. Whether you think it's a supercar or not, I bought this one from @RichRebuilds because I've wanted one since I drove it 3 years ago!

The door struts are not expensive at all provided you replace them yourself. I did my own for about $100.00 each after the local BMW dealer quoted me $1,000.0 with installation. I think they are less than $100.00 now from FCP Euro. Pro tip: Have a friend hold the door up while you do it, or prop it up with something sturdy. I used a stick that I thought was strong enough, but when I removed the strut, the stick snapped and the door came down and whacked me on the head. Luckily, a padded part hit me so no damage done except that I felt like an idiot. I have had my i8 for 5 years now and still look forward to driving it. There is nothing else quite like it.

If Rich and his team fixed it then it is in good shape. I wish i would have bought it. Rich should try to find a wrecked i8 and put a gas powered BMW engine in it and pull out the hybrid stuff.
I would love to see BMW do an i8 with one of their smaller V8 twin turbo engines. The i8 is mostly carbon fiber and with a twin turbo ICE it would scream.

i8 has always been cool. Still looks good to this day while being unique and futuristic but not in a tacky way. Super cheap for only $45k. I haven't watched much of Rich, but he's hilarious

They don't get much stranger than Rich!
The C8 corvette ERay is a hybrid. Electric motor drives the front wheels. Engine in the rear of course. It's does zero to sixty in 2.5 secs. Low 10 sec quarter mile. It's very very quick. The i8 is also a mild performance hybrid.

WOW. I watched Rich Rebuilds when he was first starting out rebuilding Tesla's in his garage and driveway. He would try to get parts from Tesla and it was a no go. His wicked sense of humor has not left him🤣🦊

Tbh I had a 118i 1 series with that 1.5L 3 cylinder turbo and I miss it! I loved that car! Especially when it gave weeeeee small tiny blow off noises!
