    NEW! My 5.0 vs. ecoboost video here --
    • Ford F-150 | Ecoboos...
    The F-150 is one of the best selling vehicles in the USA and worldwide. Why? Here I give you my brutally honest owner opinion after owning two of the current gen trucks, a 2015 XLT with the 5.0 V8, and this 2017 Platinum with the 3.5 EcoBoost. Which engine do I prefer? What options are worth it? What are my favorite things, but also the things I don't like? Would I buy the Ford again over the RAM and GMC / Chevy? Watch to find out.

    This is by far the best source of information to help someone with a new truck/car purchase vs a "professional" reviewer. I find the professional reviewers almost stumble over themselves trying to be so diplomatic with their comments and honestly most of them are lazy in their reporting, chosing to use other sources as gospel. This real world sharing of experiences, opinions and advice is so useful. You've just earned my subscription; thanks!

    Congrats on the truck! Just got a Platinum in a 5.0. Not doing too much towing but wanted a smoother ride and potential longevity and the sound ofc but the 3.5 is a beast and agile. There needs to be some quality control issues that need to be seen with occasional rattling and hiccups but it is what it is

    • @bcw686
      @bcw686 Před 3 lety +1

      I have always heard that the 5.0 V8 is better for longevity but I haven't owned a truck before. I am thinking about this truck but maybe the Lariat or XLT Sport, do you just get a truck and forget about the gas mileage? Car I have now doesn't get good gas mileage but this is another level of having to fill up. I am asking cause I just don't know

    • @kirklandwassabi8619
      @kirklandwassabi8619 Před 3 lety

      Yeah i mean i was paying attention to the mileage too with my 2.7. But then i told myself if i really cared that much i should have just gotten a smaller car. I believe the mileage is a fine tradeoff for what you get. The purpose of a truck isnt to get good mileage, however, comparing the 5.0 to the 2.7 the mileage does not differ THAT much. I love everything about the 5.0 from the instant power, the smooth acceleration and the noise. The noise i found can be altered a bit by switching to eco so the gear changes are even more fluid and smooth, making the engine quieter

    • @kirklandwassabi8619
      @kirklandwassabi8619 Před 3 lety

      Brad Whitehead I had a 2018 lariat 2.7 eco before i got the 5.0 and if you can spend a little bit more for the lariat it is def worth it with the leather seats and upgraded interior but it really depends on what your needs are and honestly both cloth and leather have their pros and cons so it again depends on what you need/want

    For the tray in the center console that slides, take two mini clip binders and place them on the track both front and back track and the tray won’t slide and you’ll still access to the rest of console storage. I place the tray all the way to the right closer to the front passenger seat. Hope that helps. Easy, cost efficient and easy to undo.

    Hi Ian!
    Great review! Funny enough I was just browsing on youtube and started listening to your video and decided to stick to the end and I'm happy I did. Love your honest, no BS opinion about your truck and it's all your personal perspective and experience by using it, but it is a very welcomed review.
    I have a 2018 5.0 Lariat SE and obviously have my own perspective about my truck, which has been flawless along these 3 years (ordered at end of '17) and although I don't dislike anything in particular of course there's always something that I'd wish it would be better 😜
    But I didn't join the channel to write why I'm so pleased with my truck and yes to just point you out on some direction about your headaches with your Adaptive Cruise sensor. Bear with me that I never had any issue, but I remember reading online somewhere (I think on a Ford Escape or Explorer forum) of someone having the same issue as you and it was the sensor's bracket that was loose behind the bumper. On our F150 it is located behind the driver's side bumper cover so give it a look. Hopefully it is this easy fix.
    Another thing, which you might know of, but anyway, keep that moonroof periodically clean and lubed. It doesn't take long to do so and should stay free of noises and breaks. We totally love the un-claustrophobic (is this a word? LOL) and open view the glass roof gives us on the long or short trips, but specially on our "very dull" winter season - Love, love it!!
    Best for your channel 👍
    Cheers!

    Sir thanks for your honest and objective perspective on this review. I really appreciate it. I was thinking of a gmc diesel or a gas F150. But I want 6.5 foot bed and probably the heavy duty payload package for increases legal payload in bed. Sad the gm doesn't offer payload and fuel tank size to better support towing with diesel. They may do so in future. My only gripe on ford is not offering a 100k warrenty at no cost for EcoBoost. If ford believes in this powertrain the warranty should reflect this. Thanks and nice truck!!!

    Great honest review, greatly appreciated.
    I have a suggestion for the sloppy tray in the center console. Any hardware store has 3M adhesive felt strips. I have purchased a 3"x4" for other usage. Simply measure the sliding area on the flip side of the tray, cut the felt adhesive to desired width and length. and apply to where the tray meets the console railing. If there is still too much slop, measure and cut additional felt to the sides of the tray slide area to take up the gap and inhibit sliding.
    I hope this helps solve the problem. Thanks again for the review.

    Good honest review. As a 2015 Platinum owner, yes the front turn signals are LED. On the 2015 Platinum, the only sets of lights that weren’t LED were the fogs and the license plate lights.
    Also, the Ram pickup does not have independent rear suspension but rather coil springs instead of leaf springs as found on other pickups.
    As for your leather seat wear, that is insane. I thought I heard some issues with that particular color leather. The black leather seats on my Platinum still look like new and are 2 years older than yours. Almost makes me wonder if your prior owner would get the leather constantly wet (boating, etc).

    As a long time owner of a 2007 F150 5.4L with 3.73's I ended up with a new 2019 F250 6.2L with 4:10's in the rear end as well. I still own the F150 and have done back to back tests towing an enclosed trailer with my compact car in it (probably a hair over 5000 lbs total). Almost identical gas mileage towing (under a buck worth of difference over a couple hundred miles) but the F250 tows as if the trailer doesn't exist. The F150 you can feel the side blasts with the passing semi's and a little more tongue bounce. So the plus side of going F250.... towing, commanding view, basically the same price as a F150 if you go gas, V8, everything on the truck underneath is heavier duty, better towing mirrors, bigger tank. The downside is 3-4 mpg less unloaded, slightly longer, and a rougher ride unloaded. I have a small car for daily trips and use the truck for towing and DIY projects. If you don't have to daily drive your truck or its mostly towing its worth considering going to a 250 to avoid turbo repairs / problems and have a substantially better towing experience. If you do daily drive then the F150 is good choice and you just have to choose the risk of the turbos vs less HP with the 5.0. If I had to buy a F150 it would be the 5.0 for sure.

    • @BigRockMoto

And if you have to ask what MPG I get then a supercharged v8 isn’t for you. The factory leather seat suck they always wear out. I went with cloth for that reason this time and they have a amazing design. I will do a review on my truck here soon I customized it a lot though. I had a 2016 Ram and nothing could beat that hemi stock. Rams are still my favorite to be honest especially for the money and options the Ram has! Stock airbags on a Ram. The Tesla radio they are amazing trucks! Ford looks the best and the sound a 5.0 makes no other truck in the world can touch! Especially supercharged 😂. I like mine to rumble so I did the cut out exhaust and she purrs! Well anyways you did a great job on the review!!! God Bless🙏🏻

    Good evening to you. Thank you very much for your straight shooting review of the F150. My wife and I are going through the decision process of a couples trailer. As I mentioned on one of your other videos yesterday, we have a Tacoma; which has minimal towing capability. But, we do like it for off roading here in SW CO. After our talking today, if we get anything beyond a geo pro or r-pod (murphy bed floor plans), we'll probably just get a minimal frills F250 or F350 gasser. We've have some negative under capable tow vehicle experiences in the past and would rather just get something with a decent margin. I towed a 28ft enclosed cargo trailer with a rental f250 gasser through CO a couple of years ago and it did quite well. And, if we got a larger tow vehicle like that, we'd most likely splurge and get an as winter capable travel trailer as possible, such as yours.
    Have a great evening!

      I agree just go to a heavy duty truck. Half tons run out of payload capacity real fast even with modest trailers. Then rent or buy a jeep for the off road stuff... that's what we're thinking nowadays

    Nice video! I just ordered a 2020 F-150 Lariat with the 2.7L ecoboost. Ford has removed the engine cover on the 2.7L because people were having issues with high engine coolant temperatures when towing up a steep grade. You might want to try removing your engine cover when towing to reduce the engine temp.

      So they say. although it probably does help a little.more than likely a cost cutting measure 2.7 is probably there main seller so let's say conservatively 300,000 trucks at a cost of 10.00 for the cost of the cover.you get the picture.3 million saved conservatively.no gloves box or hood lights standard stuff like this when you build 800,000 trucks a year adds unfortunately when they do this on quality of seat foam,leather,interior Plastics it really shows.i can't literally ride 30 miles in my dads 2011 f150 because the seats are so uncomfortable however my 97 with 300,000 miles is still comfortable.

    I've had a 2014 Laramie ecodiesel, 2014 Laramie 2500 Diesel and a 2015 mustang GT. +1 on the dodge interior. They were nicer than the ford ones. I have a 2017 f150 XLT 5.0 Love the truck as i don't tow much with it and it has the 36 gallon tank. I get roughly 800 kms in the city and 1000 kms straight highway. I bought the truck new and i didn't bother to go past XLT. Platinum and Lariat is another 20k+ and it's all just fancy electronics and as you know those are prone to fail. I didn't get leather as it always fades and rips within a few years. My laramies after a few years the leather was fading and i wasn't happy with it. Right now i have 84K on my 17 and only issues i had was the multifunction switch for the signal stick went and that was $100 and now the passenger seatbelt buckle is malfunctioning. I love my truck and it's pretty solid but electronics will always fail. That's why i bought a XLT all i needed was a rear window and the ford SYNC 8 inch screen. I love how ford has options like the maintenance package and extended warranty for 5 years. Yeah you pay 3-5k extra on your truck but you don't have to put a dime into it for 5 years, If youre able to pay it off in 5 years you're laughing.

    Awesome video. The only part I don’t agree with is the downshifting while towing to not use boost. Downshifting is going to raise your rpm and the turbos are pretty much spinning in idle until a certain rpm is reached. You’re more likely to trigger boost at higher rpm. Unless you’re on a downward grade and not accelerating.

      Trucks are great, especially in rural areas. If you need something hauled, have to get it yourself, and a truck is the only way. Full size trucks are still popular, but for many people the midsize can do the job. Easier to park, better fuel economy.

I'm a big guy and I wear size 14 shoes that running board is perfect for a guy like me to step up into the truck if the running board didn't come out far enough I would have a hell of a time trying to get in my truck.
