Thank you Brian! I "study" for my Friday PRs on Thursday nights and your videos, especially this and your others on breathing and bracing, helped me reach a new PR today! 265lbs!💪🤩 I was amazed at how easy it felt with what I learned from you last night! Thank you! (I'm 52 years old and just started powerbuilding/powerlifting back in January)
This guy talks about what REAL extremely strong athletes really do. It’s not that commercial shit that your average guy follows. He lets us in on how to be or work up to the way beast strength gets obtained. I know someone’s teaching me right when I get excited to do it. I always had in the back of my mind that there was more to lifting heavy weight than there was taught by the average trainer. Thanks Brian.
Hahah yea, youtube analytics are always way off on thew actual videos for the first day or so. It is shocking actually. I will literally have twice as many real time views as are showing on the video. But I suppose there is a whole lot going on non stop, so I can't blame them!
so I didn't get the Breathing and bracing thing until recently until recently. It works. A LOT! thanks for preaching one of the most important skills in strength!
Good video. As someone who is asthmatic, breath control in exercise is extremely important to me. Have found your breathing & bracing videos so useful for Front Squats and Pressing. Really getting good on Front Squat (for my standards).
Great stuff as usual! One of my favorite things about this channel is it hasn't become commercialized (which probably isn't a financial bonus for Brian but good for us) nor has he brought in a bunch of other lifters to boost his channel. Also I'm still able to watch with my sons and don't have to worry about crude humor or filthy language. Thanks Brian! Hope to meet you some day!
Just want to say it's good to see you getting back to health and getting bigger and stronger again. I've learned a lot from you this last year. Thank you for being inspiring and setting the standard for hard work and humanity that we should all strive to meet.
I had read many things about breathing and bracing, but never really understood it until I saw your video on breathing and bracing. It has helped me sooooo much. Thanks for all your hard work and great advice.
I have been getting lightheaded and have passed out twice in the last few months at the gym. I thought it was just my diet but I will have to start focusing on my breathing as well.
Breathing and bracing applies to so many things outside the gym. I've been working cutting granite countertops and I've realized how much I use it when picking up a heavy slab. I don't even think about it I just do it.
Amazing advice bro. I first learned about breathing and bracing when I injured my back in a deadlift that left me bedridden for days, but no one explained it as clearly as you. This solves a lot of the problems I was having. Thank you so much.
A nice refresher!! Thank you Brian!! I implemented breathing at the top of OHP today and learned how to breath and brace from you! I was out of the gym for a year and a half due to some health issues. I just finished my third week today and your tips have given me an excellent foundation to rebuild the house on. It helps a lot that you already taught me these techniques and I implement them in all my Big 5 lifts (OHP and front squat included). They’ve helped me tremendously over the years!! Keep it up Brian and get well soon my friend!!! Always appreciate your content!
Is there just a group of people that subscribe to youtubers just to give them dislikes. I dont understand if I dont like a video I just dont finish watching it, but if I like then it gets a thumbs up. Great video man, keep on keeping on.
Tried this on my overhead press at the gym today and was shocked by how much easier it was. It was like night and day compared to how I used to do the lift!
so i noticed you're taking short, powerful breaths instead of slow, long ones to fill up with air.. i think that'll work better for me as well ^^ only problem im still running into is keeping the air in my belly.. sometimes it feels like my head is going to explode and other times im close to shitting myself - well i guess it all comes down to practice x) anyways great vids brian :)
I've tried breathing at the top of a press (like you've mentioned in a few videos) and it actually feels way worse. Like I can't get as much air than at the bottom, because it seems to take more effort to hold than it does at the bottom for me. I've wondered if this may be just a personal difference, or a matter of form that needs to be addressed.
You missed one thing, how do you breathe and brace during cardio?? Haha jk jk. Great video Brian, looks like you’re definitely progressing health-wise. Keep it up
The information in this channel is incredible. I have drastically altered my training due to your influence. Thank you Kindly. Interesting that the Kung Fu Chi proponents encourage belly breathing in everyday life (not referring to holding the breath but everyday normal activities). Babies and toddlers if observed breath through their bellies I. E. Bellies expand and contract as they breath.
I love this video, I can’t wait to try this out. One thing I am wondering, since I also do a lot of grappling, do you ever find your weightlifting breathing patterns to accidentally make its way into grappling or striking. Meaning, are you holding your breath while executing throws or strikes, simply by mistake?
Yeah in the History channel's Strongest man in History Eddie Hall, Brian Shall, Nic Best, and Robert Oberst. picked up a 400lb sand bag with some difficulties.
Fantastic video! One question about higher reps sets (for instance 10-12): I can usually do the first three reps with one breath (at most), but what do you recommend for the next reps? I was thinking of doing one rep / breath, because if try to do two or more (after the first three reps), then I feel like dying.
Hello Brian, Great video. Not sure if you will see this comment, but for some reason I feel better when I get air in my setup position rather then when I get air up top or with my hips up. Is there any reason behind this? Also how many months would it take to get really used to getting air up top/with my hips up? Thanks.
Hi Brian there is a question i have on my mind for some time now...Is it healthy to keep your breath for long time? When i keep my breath for 3 reps for example, i feel my heart beating. Is this a good or a bad thing?Should i do some cardio warm up before my streght workout or is a cardio level issue?
Are you sure you're feeling tightness in your DIAPHRAGM? Anatomically, that muscle basically sits right beneath your lungs and above your liver, more or less following your 10th rib, if that makes sense. Where are you experiencing tightness?
Me, 2 years ago: Not breathing and bracing, picking up lower back tweaks. Me, 1 year ago: Breathing and bracing, Deadlift 25% bigger, squatting with depth and control, OHP getting there. Me now: Breathes and braces to pick up a beach ball, tells everyone else they should too
Na like If you were peaking for a powerlifting meet or strong man meet or weeks leading to a pr...how do you taper your volume,frequency,intensity... Just an example..no need to really lay out a program
This is the best strength channel.
My $0.02
Thanks my man!
Isn’t it? All this knowledge being given out for free too. Very appreciated, Brian!
I needed this video - high rep squats are the bane of my existence.
Bro...are we there same person???

@@BrianAlsruheOfficial Dude you just made my day by replying. Stay strong!
Been powerlifting for 3 years, best lesson on breathing I've ever heard. Thanks
Going back and re-watching a lot of older videos and remembering old tips that have slipped my mind, very helpful
This channel is so underrated

Brian and Jeff cavaliere the best guys to learn from on CZcams
Thanks Brian for sharing so much knowledge. Learning how to properly breath and brace helped my lifting 100%. Lots of love from Argentina

I never thought of how breathing affected the direction of pressing! Thanks for the thorough breakdown

You solve my breathing poblem today! Thank you very much for sharing our experience!
I've heard you say these cues so many times they help so much when I'm lifting
Why uncle Nic walks like he's Fuckin tired? Always!
Great video Brian. Ur awesome!

Best damn video on the net!!!!
Super useful video! Thanks a lot!!
Thanks, needed this information, started deadlifting recently and was wondering why I would almost pass out on a lift! (Total newbie!)
Thank you, so much. This reminder video is just what I needed. I’m so happy that you are doing well.
Still here since sub 15k
Great video sir!!!😍
One suggestion: try to put video links you mention in the video so we can find them fast.
Awesome Coach Brian. 1st strongman show in September lots of carries. Thank you love and joy
Thanks Brian, this is a perfect addition to the breathing and bracing video.
Thank you Brian! This is amazing. Will start practicing these principles in my workouts. Greetings from Malaysia!
The has helped me so much! Thank you for all the time you take to make these videos!
so i noticed you're taking short, powerful breaths instead of slow, long ones to fill up with air.. i think that'll work better for me as well ^^

That isn't a problem my dude, it means you're doing it right hahahaha! good job

Thank you as always big man !
I thought the love child of Eddie Hall and Brian Shaw was Robert Oberst? 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you do much for this wonderful video! Respect!
Thanks for the information Brian
"Breathing = PRs!" Larry wheels approve this video.
great video brew!
You missed one thing, how do you breathe and brace during cardio?? Haha jk jk. Great video Brian, looks like you’re definitely progressing health-wise. Keep it up
I breathe on the way down on overhead press, feels better for some reason because of the weightless moment. Might try it your way
ty very much
Great tips! Thanks

Great video Brian thank you so much. Could you make a video on your thoughts on PEDs in the strongman community and whether you are natty or not?
lmao yea he's not doing that. He's already answered both of those questions.
Great video man! So when are you guys going to make a Kona shirt? It should say Puppy Brain on it as well.
I love this video, I can’t wait to try this out. Great video! What about rows and pullups?
Love you dad

Power!
What about bent over rows?
Shared to my fb page! Then go fishin'!
I've got a yoga ball at home, now I'm tempted to put it under my shirt as I work out
🎶 it only hurts when I breathe🎶
Yeah in the History channel's Strongest man in History Eddie Hall, Brian Shall, Nic Best, and Robert Oberst. picked up a 400lb sand bag with some difficulties.

Why are you not a fighter why are you not at MMA your nail it
Brian, how do you incorporate fighting into your training?
Hello Brian,

Is there any reason behind this? Also how many months would it take to get really used to getting air up top/with my hips up?
Thanks.
This is the first time I've realized that one rep doesn't have to equal one breath; I've been breathing once per rep. Gonna change this pronto.
The intro😂
I’ve already like this video but I wanna like it twice. For the SCIENCE!!!
Hi Brian there is a question i have on my mind for some time now...Is it healthy to keep your breath for long time? When i keep my breath for 3 reps for example, i feel my heart beating. Is this a good or a bad thing?Should i do some cardio warm up before my streght workout or is a cardio level issue?
u got the answer? i hab the same prob
Have you ever experienced tightness in the diaphram muscles? I feel tightness when try to take a big breath occasionally
Are you sure you're feeling tightness in your DIAPHRAGM? Anatomically, that muscle basically sits right beneath your lungs and above your liver, more or less following your 10th rib, if that makes sense. Where are you experiencing tightness?
Should I breathe and brace while running a mile?
Is it good to reset ur breath after u unrack the bar on bench press
Me, 2 years ago: Not breathing and bracing, picking up lower back tweaks.
Me, 1 year ago: Breathing and bracing, Deadlift 25% bigger, squatting with depth and control, OHP getting there.
Me now: Breathes and braces to pick up a beach ball, tells everyone else they should too
If i brace before picking the bar when im trying to overhead press i pass out even if the bar hasnt got any weight on it
Flex your butt, I just did an entire vid about this recently
Brian
One thing I think you u never did was giving us an example of how you peak for a lift
If you mean how I go about a PR, I have a few vids on it
Na like
If you were peaking for a powerlifting meet or strong man meet or weeks leading to a pr...how do you taper your volume,frequency,intensity...
Just an example..no need to really lay out a program
3:56 50% more power?
congrats the perfect recipe for hemorrhoids
