Superformance Corvette Grand Sport With Lance of Superformance

Today's AutoHunter Cinema feature is a Corvette Grand Sport replica built by Superformance. The original Grand Sport has its genesis in late 1962 when Chevrolet engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov set out to build 125 Corvette race cars for international race circuits, culminating with the GT class at the 24 Hours of LeMans. After a run of five cars, General Motors brass cancelled the project and ordered the cars destroyed due to the company’s reaffirmation of the Automobile Manufacturers Association racing ban. This particular car is GS001, the first Grand Sport that Superformance built over 13 years ago. It is powered by a period-correct 377ci small-block with cross-ram manifold and Webers.

Several years ago a friend bought a nice used GS that had no drivetrain. He built an aluminum Brodix 540 ci BBC and teemed it with a sequential gearbox. It was nothing but frightening, over 150 the car was pulling like a mad man with no end in sight.

One extremely cool Corvette. Glad to see it reissued by the best "kit" car manufacturer today. Actually it's not a kit car but continuation of production vehicle with necessary "modern" up grades. I'll take two thank you.

I know it's a track GS, but they should focus on a clean mono or bi-paint scheme. Make the stripes and # decals an option.
