It looks the same cause the video editing is bad bro or your phone screen isn’t capable of 1080p . You will notice the difference easily between 480p , 720p and 1080p trust me .
@@rami30 Well that's the whole point. No sense buying the higher definition version if my phone screen's resolution is 720. I wasn't sure if it would effect the quality anyway and it didn't.
The real question is does hdr make an sd Netflix package any better. Also, if you're watching on anything bigger than a phone, hd all the way.

Even on my 17 inch laptop monitor I can barely tell any difference. I always thought the RTD era, which was before when the show went HD starting in 2010 with Moffat/Matt Smith, looked excellent as is. I'm betting the Blu-Ray release probably just upscales anyway, which is why it's barely noticeable.

This should be called how your device will display 480p vs 1080p. This will not be an accurate comparison between the 2 different resolutions unless you watch it on screens or monitors that can natively display both 480p and 1080p to depict the 2 different images. Your phone, tablet or television generally has a single resolution it displays at and any type of incoming signal to it is converted to the screens native resolution using various software included with your device, some doing it quite well and some not so much. So this is a comparison of how your device displays 480p vs 1080p with its conversion software and native screen resolution. It will also look much better on a smaller screen size as the number of pixels are more condensed on a smaller screen such as a phone. For a true comparison use a computer monitor set to output 480p and only focus on the 480p image and then set the monitors output to 1080p and rewatch only focusing on the 1080p image. There is a noticable difference. BTW 480p is not standard definition it's enhanced definition, standard definition is/was 480i (interlaced)

Yeah, that's exactly why I'm going to watch the same video on my monitor. I'm considering getting Netflix again, but only for me and I wanted to see what 480p would look like on my phone as well as my monitor, to see if it's worth getting

On 1080p you see more detail on his face than 480p if you can’t see the difference than something is wrong .

For me the difference is so small theres no difference, and my vision is perfect, unless you're fussy or watching on a 32 inch display i see no reason to be bothered by a little bit less pixels
If you're watching on a phone screen the difference is barely noticable, but if you have a large HDTV or a decent computer screen the difference is night and day

@@chaltu4809 honestly, I think it’s my tv. I have a tcl Roku. Some movies are bad and some are really good quality. Same movie on different movie apps look different too. Netflix is kinda derpy with their quality tho. Maybe it’s my mediocre internet 🤷🏻♂️

The 2000s Doctor Who special effects would've probably looked even worse with HD quality.
Gotta love the cheap look that Doctor Who used to have since its very inception to just years ago. But I'm surely not complaining about it looking as good as it does nowadays.

Such closeup views will hide the differences. Show a wide view of distant scenery with detail and you will see the difference
Since 2016 I have been paying the basic package, I always assumed it was 1080 as its nice and clear picture, was shocked today when I found out its 480, upgraded to 4k and I just cant tell any major difference. So I'll go back to basic plan.

Even on mobile HD is the way to go. Especially if you are buying media which you will inevitably watch on a HD tv in the future.

Doing a side-by-side comparison like this is kind of useless, since you are already shrinking your HD footage down to half its resolution. Should split the frame in half to get a good comparison, or at least upload it in a wider aspect ratio with higher resolution.

I think it would have helped if it was comparing still images of the show. There was also a glow effect that made it misleading. Overall I feel like the route of comparing the two was not the best choice. I do notice a slight blur difference but its again hard to compare with a moving picture.
Im so happy this video exists, I always thought hd to sd was a drastic difference but honestly it isn’t that bad i think its worth it to save money and buy lower quality unless you really enjoy the movie then i could see spending a little extra for that perfect picture
