"Winner Of The Congressional Medal Of Honor." - The Pacific (2010) #shorts #thepacific #movie #scene
The Pacific is a 2010 American war drama miniseries produced by HBO, Playtone, and DreamWorks that premiered in the United States on March 14, 2010.
The series is a companion piece to the 2001 miniseries Band of Brothers and focuses on the United States Marine Corps's actions in the Pacific Theater of Operations within the wider Pacific War. Whereas Band of Brothers followed the men of Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment through the European Theater, The Pacific centers on the experiences of three Marines (Robert Leckie, Eugene Sledge, and John Basilone) who were in different regiments (1st, 5th, and 7th, respectively) of the 1st Marine Division.

After Basilone received the Medal of Honor, he returned to the United States to a homecoming parade, on Sep. 19, 1943, at his home town. He then started on a U.S. tour to sell war bonds with a number of movie stars and celebrities. He too reached celebrity status and was actually asked to star in some films.
Despite all of the fame, Basilone was itching to get back into the fight. His boys were in harm's way while he was living in luxury stateside. The Marines denied his first request to go to the front, saying that he had a very important mission selling war bonds. They offered him a commission, which Basilone declined, and an instructor's position, which he turned down as well.
Finally, the Marines approved Basilone to go back to fighting in the Pacific. But, first he had to train at Camp Pendelton, Calif. It was there where he met his future wife, Lena Mae Riggi, also a Marine. They were married on July 10, 1944. (Veterans United)

They _"offered"??_ Seems like the USMC would be more along the lines of _"ordering"??_
@@donarthiazi2443 They probably learned their lesson after he returned to combat and died.
That’s a true American, god bless him. He knew his brothers were still in danger and he was ready to lay down his life so he could try an ensure their safety

Not sure how that went... I guess him being awarded the _Medal of Honor_ meant he could refuse orders as he pleased 🤷
Something seems kinda off 🤔
You dont win the medal of honor, you are awarded for it.
Many recipients have been recorded saying the phrase "winning the Medal of honor." I ain't arguing with them.
So many civilians trying to act like they know anything about the military. Stick to your CoD and Fortnite.
Take it from a U.S Army Veteran who served back in the 2000s. When we are given a medal, we call it "winning" a medal. Y'know, like how you win literally any other medal in any other way. When an athlete is given a trophy for first place, you don't tell them "you didn't win that, you were awarded it" so why try and act like it's any different in the military? Something you know nothing about. Stop trying to speak for other people, especially a group of people you are not a part of.
Semantics of the most useless variety.
The medal of honor is the only medal a US soldier "wins".... the same goes for the Victoria Cross
Win then awarded.
RIP John Basilone. On behalf of the UK, thank you for your service to the cause of global peace, prosperity and freedom.
Very nicely put. The UK led the way during the very darkest days of WWII and never considered waving the white flag. Our awesome cousins across the pond were an inspiration to everyone back then, and still are today.
Greetings from North Carolina my friend... Rule Britannia

global peace, prosperity and freedom? where? i work full time and can hardly afford rent and have a net worth of 50 cents
@@newbleppmore7855that’s right! What are you gonna do about our rent, John Basilone?
He died so your country could be exploited by 🇮🇱
"Just remember, it won't be for you... it would be for them."
You are awarded the MOH .
I thought this too at first but I think it might have been a conscious style choice to highlight misrepresentative and bombastic the speaker is being & how alienated the soldier feels
Love how civilians are trying to pretend they know military crap. It's a movie miniseries, not a documentary.
When we get a medal in the Army, we call it "winning" a medal. When we talk about MOH recipients we say "they won the Medal of Honor" Do you tell athletes "you didn't win that medal for first place, you were awarded it"? No you don't. Stop trying to speak for people, especially a group of people you are not a part of.
@@RedFail1-1Wow, you really got triggered, didn't you?
Triggered, like how the Drill Sergeant treated your hole when you first enlisted. You learned the meaning of 'itchy trigger finger' right quick, didn't ya?
@@thomaswillard6267wtf is wrong with you.
@@leeham6230there’s nothing wrong with him. Military guys always try to throw rank around like they’re hot shit but ain’t. The Medal of Honor has always been earned by putting yourself in a near death situation, your team has to either die and you live and carry out the mission or you damn near died, the team got fucked off & continued to push forward no matter the consequences for the mission, people don’t even do research on Medal of Honor recipients plus they have documentaries and other shit that will go into deeper detail about it, dude even tried to throw a shot at him with the “cod and Fortnite” reference when dude plays flight sims, you can have respect for military people but not when dudes acts like special forces and he was probably an ammo carrier
Every man who has seen combat will tell you they did for there brothers in the battle with theme
Yeah, imagine, just for a moment, that your sitting there listening to this speech, and then as the pace picks up, you watch your friends dying, at a pace increasing with the statements, then imagine how you'd feel, and what your response might be
It shows what basilones character is. Its driven by humility. Its his humility to serve and help and not boast that let him be awarded the medal for his selfless service. Not gloating and big talk of which he is seriously ashamed.
You just want to jump and say "the folks who can't be here" and then walk away
John Basilone would tell you he and his boys earned the Medal of Honor.
A man that loves the most.
All things especially if they're threatened.
He says "winner" like he just high-scored at Plinko.
Man… people like him and warriors of the like honestly just want a reason to die not in a bad way but seeing so many die and killing so many enemies you really start to wonder and think some think they are invincible some like him wanna keep going in the hope to save a single life while taking as many as possible. But it sucks that a lot of ppl don’t respect the own awards because they got that cool line “I was just doing my job” or they dead. Like man… some tough ass dudes fr fr.
The argument over winning and awarding….It’s awarded, I say this because numerous MOH recipients have corrected those by saying just that. A lot of these guys who are awarded it wear it not for themselves but to honor those men that died in that operation that granted the right for the awardee of said medal.
Sometimes wearing the MOH is a burden to those who are awarded it.
"These things aren't given out when something went right.A lot of stuff went wrong, and it's a heavy weight at some times."-Clint Romesha
I think I can say for everyone that what kind of man does all that every man that served in the military everything they went across was a challenge in a victory
There is not a Congressional Medal of Honor. It's the Medal of Honor, and thank God Congress has nothing to do with it.
Me when I post without doing a 30 second Google search
Incorrect it’s the congressional metalnof honer won by marine core and army soliders. Read a book.
30 second Google search. What is the name of the Medal? Is the "Medal of Honor" or the "Congressional Medal of Honor"? The name of the Medal is simply “Medal of Honor” - the word “Congressional” is sometimes mistakenly used because the Medal was created by Congress; however, the Medal is purely a military award. Kearn your country's history you twit @kirbyhergert6645
@@CoderShareA thirty second google search will show you that this is a common mistake (made mostly by the older generation in my experience). It has never been the Congressional Medal of Honor. Always just the Medal of Honor.
Then why is referred to as the CMH
His mind still want to fight.
Recipient, not winner.
The only problem I've had is you don't win the medal of honor that is earned
It’s is won by being recommended by your commanding officer for your actions during combat
Do you tell a team they were awarded the World Series trophy or did they win it
@@FP194No ones competing to "win" the MOH its an award not a prize
John Basilone never felt like he was deserving of the MOH because there were so many others that did so much as well. He definitely was deserving, but that’s the kind of humility every man who wears the MOH should have.
He did not want to be there....
They forgot about Mitchell Paige.
Did the same awarded the same except....after he finished melting his machine gun he led a Fing bayonet charge .
Basilone stopped and had a smoke
You didn’t show the best part of John and the blonde
I did my job, thats all. Now leave me alone.
John basilone receive MOH which he is proud off..but he is not so comfortable as he is. I think these is what we get from the previous clint eastwood movie "flag of our father". He received MOH for doing the job (although he lost his friend). But for things he don't feel comfort: being call hero back at home and sell war bond.
There's no such thing as the Congressional Medal of Honor. It's called The Medal of Honor.
A man who's tough to kill
Jesus Christ. We are so stupid and deluded that we will sit and hate each other over if we should say someone won an award or if they were "awarded it" considering BOTH HAVE THE SAME FUKING MEANING
They really don't
A man that really like to eat Crayons!
Lol
Recipient of the Medal of Honor, not 'winner'
Wrong
@FP194 No, he's not. You don't win it. You receive it, unlike a sporting event. You don't want to receive this. It just happens when you go above and beyond the call of duty . I've met a few recipients all say it wasn't something they won
In a world of Jason Mamoas and Dwayne Johnson's, be a fucking Basilone
It's not called the "Congressional" Medal of Honor. It's called the Medal of Honor. It would have been nice if the makers had done some basic research.
I think the point is that this whole time Bassilone is on his press tour, no one really understands what he went through or the correct terminology. Kind of like today. The character making a speech is passionate, but he’s just trying to sell war bonds.
It used to be the congressional MOH
Maybe they called it the CMOH back in the day.
Obviously you're the one who did not do basic research. Back in ww2 it is called Congressional Medal of Honor
In 1863 it was Congress who passed legislation making the Medal of Honor a permanent award. On every Army Medal of Honor you will find "The Congress To" followed by the recipients name inscribed on the back, because it is awarded by the US President on behalf of Congress which is where the "Congressional" part comes from. Maybe you should have done some research.
I'm not a Yankee so is it Medal or Congressional Medal???
It’s Medal of Honor officially, congressional isn’t technically correct but they’re often used interchangeably
The name of the Medal is simply “Medal of Honor” - the word “Congressional” is sometimes mistakenly used because the Medal was created by Congress; however, the Medal is purely a military award. The Congressional Medal of Honor Society was chartered by Congress, which is why the word ‘Congressional’ precedes the Society’s name
There is no such medal. Cease with the "Congressional" garbage. Just plain idiotic.

You would think the producers of this show ought to know military members don’t win the MOH or any medals, they get awarded, but maybe it was intentional to show civilians don’t know anything about the military
