    @--Cat-- Před rokem +1653

The best part about Apollyon I think is her own backstory. She's just a farm girl who had her village raided by the Warborn. Everyone but her died. This all of course could have been prevented because there was a Lawbringer staying nearby. But he was lazy and content and didn't help her village. Obviously she sought revenge. That's where her armor comes from, it's that Lawbringer's armor reshaped to fit her.
After her revenge she realized something. That strife and conflict, that small war she just waged, it made her stronger. Being content, like she and the Lawbringer had been, was wrong. Humanity needs to struggle to grow, as only the strongest can raise the next generation to be even stronger. A wolf pack, not a herd of sheep.

A lot of people really misunderstand story-writing, and how difficult it can be to make something that doesn’t just follow a common trope. I will always be impressed with the way the characters feel balanced with each other here, instead of 1 main character dominating everything, and Apollyon ultimately being the victor in the end, using realistic aspects of human nature to win, instead of the hero being the most morally superior character in the world. It shows that the protagonists can fail, and will fail, if they can’t find common ground through understanding and learning from each other, instead of a short pep talk and a week or 2 of training.

I always said that I wanted a kind of Game of Thrones style prequel following Apollyon, Holden Cross, and Daubany. It could have three storylines that intersect in the finale.
Keep in mind, what I put below I just came up off the top of my head.
One (arguably both the least and most important) follows Apollyon as she climbs up the ranks of the Blackstone legion, while at the same time driving the other legions out of Ashfeld. Perhaps it could be a sort of tragic villain story, have her start off as slightly idealistic (if a little jaded) and then slowly become what we see her as in the main story due to all the backstabbing and decadence she witnesses.
The second story line could follow Holden Cross as he follow's Apollyon's orders and begins the Blackstone legions conquest of Ashfeld; and show him struggling with his "my master, right or wrong" mentality, as he struggles to maintain his honor in the face of the inherit dishonor war brings.
And the last story line (and arguably the main one) could follow Daubany as he tries to find his place in Ashfeld. I see him being a a sort of Bronn of the Blackwater kind of figure, albeit less unfettered; with him starting off as a lowly sellsword (kind of like how our Warden started in the campaign), and then doing a task that gets him recruited into the Blackstone Legion.
As the story progresses, Daubany and Cross constantly butt heads due to their differing world views and feelings about honor (the former being a pragmatist, while the later is obsessed with it); but ultimately, the finale would be both men realizing what Apollyon really wants with Ashfeld.
Cross thinks he can temper her expectations, while Daubany see's the situation for what it is and show's that he's arguably more moral than Cross by taking those under his command and splitting off from the Blackstone Legion and forming a rebellion (to further underscore the similarities between Daubany and the PC Warden); with the show ending with the canonical battle in the beginning of the campaign, and a sort of epilogue with a scribe talking to Cross and Daubany as they reflect on what happened (and to be a sort of framing device).

I love the knight story, it has a heart and some twists, the other two are more like background lore got animated (outside of some moments that stand out). I only wish the story circled around back to the Warden for the final battle. Speaking of which it's just knights vs knights vs samurai, with vikings showing up at the last moment as an afterthought. They have a story role there (keep the fighting an mistrust going), but they could've worked them in as a second front storming the castle for loot and make it a three way fight.
As far as simple stories go, I really like them when they're one properly an hit all the right notes, such has the original Force Unleashed campaign.

The only word I can think of to describe For Honor's story is "masterpiece". It truly brings identity to For Honor's world. Most people who say the story and/or lore doesn't matter or says that it's bad doesn't appreciate what For Honor is, they just see it as another fighting game. This game is something truly special, something that I can only hope gets topped by another entry or a sequel.

I'm actually of the mindset that the story was just okay. It was far too short and I still don't like how it ended. Not the peace talks at the very end- I'm annoyed that it was the orochi who fought Apollyon and not the Warden we played at the beginning of the game during the knight story. Idk the viking story was cool, the knight story was solid too but by the time I go to the samurai story it just felt like I got through the other two sections of the campaign way too quickly and thus my enjoyment of it faded.
Edit: I'll add, this is just my opinion.

The thing that sticks with me and really makes this campaign good and memorable is the near perfect blend of cheese/camp with serious undertones. For every "rAiDeR!!" You have a "I took an oath to fight for peace. So did you. All of you."
That and I just adore the setting. The idea of a humanity pushed to the brink with some people desperately trying to pull it back from the edge while others fan the flames is just so interesting and fun for me. Alongside the bleak atmosphere and ceaseless, unrelenting war it's all just 👌
It reminds me of 40k in a lot of ways, actually. But with the restraint to ease up on the edginess every once in a while, so you have just a smidge of levity to juxtapose the hopelessness and violence.

I've been writing a book for more than a year now, and one of my major inspirations were the story mode in for honor. The plot is actually fantastic, a millennium of war, so lost to time that they just fight to survive. The characters are just amazing as well. The story mode borders on psychological thriller at times. For a unique new game, for honor outdid itself in the story department. I wish we saw more games with nuisanced and interesting story modes like it.

The brutality of the game was certainly another reason my roots were so deep too, I loved it all. But of course, the simple facts that everyone had swords and you had to *gasp* block in the direction the hit was coming from?! Pair Apollyons final speech with one Warmomgers intro lines "Peace? Peace is poison" have always struck me as true to human nature. If you're at peace you're either dead or dying, as does a stagnant pool of water; the peace of it breeds pestilence in the form of mosquitoes.
"You bring all your armies, and now what, you just... go home?" Often times when people are prepared to fight there's no stopping it. Blood is going to be spilled when people are seeing red.
"I want you to admit what you are; my wolves" Even afer all the struggle of the campaign beforehand, all the death, all the people salin by your hands: you still lost. You came to stop a war, and in doing so started the very thing you fought to prevent.
The situstuon leaves us with the notion that 'fighting is wrong' while with Appolyons dying breaths shows the player *fighting is in their nature*
For as much flak as the campaign mode ever got, can't say it didn't poke the brain with some damn good food for thought.

Another great thing i think people miss, is how unafraid ForHonors story is of being cliche, you have a world with three big factions, Knights, Samurai and Vikings you arent told much about their societies and histories because youre meant to see the world from a warriors eyes, you just know that ''the vikings are brave and savage'' ''the samurai are honorable and skilled'' and ''the knights are righteous and stalwart'' stuff that could be interchangable but sets up the stereotypical image of these three groups perfectly, your Knight character is the standard protagonoist that has good heart, is brave, but also naive, your Viking character is agressive and hungry for glory. Theres still space for more original characters, but its great that for once you get to meet a new universe trough the eyes of the character archetypes that best represent it, instaed of some fanfic OC that SuBvErTs YoUr ExPeCtAtIoNs at every turn.

The world of For Honor is a grim and horrific place to live. Take a minute to imagine how many families are killed or separated. By a certain age you're probably expected to know how to fight. We see in the more recent seasons everyone is sick of fighting, they don't want to anymore but have to. If you listen to the lyrics of the breach music, the Knights just don't want the war anymore, the Vikings are praying for salvation, and the Samurai just want actual living conditions and for their culture to not die out. It's depressing reading through the lore (at least when you ignore the weird parts they shovel in for either an event or a new hero). Vela was our first villain character we've seen who doesn't enjoy what she does. Imagine that, a war that's been going on for so long nobody wants to fight it, but they don't trust each other enough to make peace.

When you've seen death and been on it's doorstep all your life, it's only natural you'll live life more in the moment. @Scott Memelord If you’d like to elaborate on why Ezio being compared to Apollyon is insulting then we’d love to hear it. Until then, here’s my reason on why Apollyon was a great character:
Apollyon is a great character because although we know that she is mentally screwed up, she makes a valid point on how people will continue to fight, even if they don’t know the reason. (ARMSTROOOOOONG) Apollyon simply wants everyone to admit the unspeakable which is “I fight because it is who I am” rather than “I fight for justice” or “I fight for peace”, Although Apollyon wasn’t fleshed out the most in-game, she was fleshed out from her backstory and additional pieces of lore.

@@scottmemelord6130 I said the most not at all, she still has a great character and the extra lore bits are just about her childhood and how she got mentally screwed up in the first place. Even then, why are you treating my comment like I just slandered your name? I simply asked why was it insulting to have a character that needed 4 games of being fully fleshed out is standing next to Apollyon, a character who needed only about a bit of that time to establish her identity and impact on the story. People only need one game to say that someone is a great character, for AC examples, check Bayek of Siwa(Origins) The Kenway family (AC 3&4) and Shay Cormac(Rogue). But my point is, Ezio is supposed to get you invested in him because he's the main character, so we get emotionally invested like a parent watching a child grow up and gain wisdom. Apollyon, we don't need to like her or even respect her, we can just think that she was a crazed lunatic that lost herself. The point of Apollyon's character is to make the player and by extent, the characters in universe, question their own beliefs and truly wonder, "what am I fighting for? For honor(heh)? For peace?" and she succeeds.

For me, what brought me in was the cool-ass knights, and once I got into the story it was the tale of three civilisations that have been at war for over a millennium. People forged by wars which were started as a result of circumstances beyond their control, forcing them to hostility and brutality if they wanted to survive.
It was the concept of seeing knights, vikings, samurai - fighting a war whose cause is no longer even remembered. The customisation and seeing your own characters fight it out in a dynamic map as you recreate and continue the conflict which has lasted for over a thousand years.

Btw i recently played Of Orcs and Men (quite an old game) and now that you mention it i see the same thing happen in both games, albeit in different ways. Apollyon has you bring out the worst in people, making them her soldiers or having them die, and Barimen does the same thing, more to his own benefit though, letting you kill the emperor to take his place and build an alliance between his empire, the elves and dwarfs to eradicate the orcs and goblins. It seems that the most recognisable and compelling villains are those who make you work for them, who build their plot in a way that can be seen from two sides, but have you believe in only one of them, even though the hints were there all along. And that is mostly a sign of not only of a good game, but more than anything of good writing and a talent for storytelling.

What makes Apollyon an incredibly fascinating villain is that her brutality doesn't come from anger, but rather from a perspective of instruction. She doesn't hate or want vengeance, she accepts the cold truth that is humanity's need to grow and excel through conflict. You could almost say that there isn't any evil in her intent, it is simply a necessary lesson she wanted to share... and you know what they say, sharing is caring. Apollyon did nothing more than teach the world, and teaching is a way of showing love.
