If Mattel’s version had quieter gears and the force movement wasn’t so violent, I think it would be perfect. The sizing is definitely more accurate and the fact that it comes with a remote so you have control is preferable over Hasbro’s 25 set programs. The motor sounds of Mattel’s when his ears moved was a bit painful for me. Both are adorable though.

I have none of those, but I got the Mattel 11" plush body with a hard vinyl head, and it's so huggable and adorable! I only wished I could press his hand and hear the adorable sounds he makes. And it would be nice if his eyes would close when laying him down. And an added bonus would be if somehow the top of his head had some fuzzy hairs. I don't need him on a remote control to follow me around. The one I have has no legs, but the body is made in such a way that it lets the doll stand on its own. When I carry him around, it looks as if he's so happy to be carried around, lol. It's so cute!
I also wished they would make a snow globe with Grogu sitting on the seeing stone while meditating. The glass part could be a bluish tint, and it could have silver glitters inside. It could pay the theme for the Mandalorian when you wind it up (or it could be without any music). I also hope they'll make more memorable moments figurines, like the meditating Grogu, the mechanic Grogu, the egg eating Grogu, the fierce force-yielding Grogu (with both hands, and an angry look on his cute little face!), and I'm sure there were other such memorable moments in season 2 as well. I have a collection of 6 of these tiny figurines from season 1 (frog-eating, healing-force-effort, soup-drinking, ball-obsessing, peeking over his blanket, sitting and reaching with a forlorn look on his face). I've also fallen for this cutest little munchkin, as you can tell, lol!

The Mattel is a bit too much. It's too robotic and the force move looks violently rickety. It's allso loud whenever operated and I think its a bit too large in size. I love the random 25 sounds on the little guy. Makes him feel more real. His size makes him a perfect ideal for a collectors item but you do have the control to put him to sleep and his force arm. You can get him to respond each time by petting him on the head. Even just a light rub. Again the device chooses what response it gives you which gives the impression that this is a real being that has freedom of will.
I can see the animatronic being used at Disney-land for one of their attractions.

It's hard to say definitely. I think any collector would love to have them both, but at the end of the day, a bigger robot model has more weight to carry. So here are the pros and cons I got for this video.
    Hasbro (Small):
    Pro-Facial Movement & Sound
    Pro/Con-Compact and Smaller, limited movements
    Mattel (Big):
Pro-More physical movements, one mini-game, and realistic force use
Pro/Con-Larger size, which means more motor noise.
Both of their faces are sculpted very nicely, perhaps the Hasbro version has more personality around the lips. Which makes sense because its a speaking model. It would be great to have both, but if you consider buying one first, I would go with Hasbro, then invest in the Mattel version. I would love to scare someone with that force choke. In terms of energy efficiency there's a good chance that both expend the same, but perhaps Mattel's will be more because of the size.

The mattel force movement on that unit looked like a gear slipping, and that chucking noise as well, I would have returned it on that, it looks like it's miscalibrated, aside from the horrendous motor noise, I MUCH prefer the hasbro force routine, the sound effect is better, and the moment is smoother. The mattel is a complete failure because of all the grinding.
My thought is "here is your baby yoda machine" plastic gear noises aren't cute, they ruin the experience.

Unfortunately, every Mattel unit in the store operated that way. I think it’s poor manufacturing. I finally found one yesterday that doesn’t have that spastic arm movement, but I tried at least a hundred before that.

The Mattel version almost has no sculpted in details, and it doesn't have that cuteness factor. I much prefer the Hasbro, even though he's tiny, he's wayyyy cuter!

    Hasbro: 25 yr old Grogu.
    Mattel: 50 yr old Grogu.
Remote toy is crap, noisy powertool mechanics and glichy force arm lol, can barely here him the sounds are dreadful. Come on bro back in the day toys sounded better, this suppose be future and they sound like im working in a shed.
I prefer Hasbro figure, love the movement even his sounds cool unlike mattel toolshed figure.

Love the Hasbro version, Mattel did a nice try but the robotic noise is too loud, louder than its baby Yoda's sounds, plus Hasbro's looks so much cuter and realistic, this is the one I found at random at Target alone in a kind of an empty shelf and immediately caught my eye, when I rubbed its head not knowing how it works since I didn't read the instructions, he gave me the force 😀 so I had to take him home, will be acting sooo surprised opening my own present this x-mas 😆

the mattel version is perfect but it sounds horrible, if it was quiet, it would beat the hasbro one.

If the animatronic had the other one's face, it would be great. It is a pity the remote controled obe makes that much noise moving around.

    Hasbro is VERY SMALL.
Those grinding gears on the Mattell toy. (In 2020, you'd think they could make a quiet toy, no? Sounds like a fork in a garbage disposal.)
Oh My God. Hasbro is literally so lifelike, the way he moves his ears and makes those noises. I wish he moved his hands. (He does! 😁😁😁) I just wish he was taller. I want him! I don't LOVE the clicking, when he moves, but less annoying than Mattell. The randomeness makes him more baby like. 😊😊😊
The bigger size, with fluid movement, that can move around.

I got the Mattel. Though the noisiness was a bummer, I just like the sculpt, size and details better, and I just really like looking at him chilling on my sofa. I also just like hearing his baby-talk sounds, which you can do with one of the buttons on the controller, independent of the walking/force movement. Also, he’s the right size as a costume-prop for an adult, whereas the Hasbro would look dinky riding around in your adult-size messenger bag. I agree, the movement is more fluid on the Hasbro and I love the nap and eye function. But I still like the looks and the scale of the Mattel. His lil face is really cute even from the side. The Hasbro one looks a little bit too skinny to me in the face and I thought it would always be just a little disappointing each time I looked at it. Now that I see the size comparison I’m that much more happy I chose Mattel.

I like the animatronic Hasbro model the most, he’s not as noisy as the Mattel version. I could live with it just sitting in one place and doing random things, the ears moving are really cute. All in all we only leave them sitting on a shelf. But you’re right, a hybrid of the two would be excellent, you should have told us the prices too.

Thanks for this review. The mechanism noises for the Mattel one are really ruining it, that's a shame because the concept is great, also the size of the character is perfect. The Hasbro one looks adorable even if it's small, and I don't mind its randomness. He's just so cute with his noises. I'm more and more tempted to get one of these animatronics.
