- In this video Chris opens up a hive for the first time since last September. Other than for feeding this hive has been left alone during the winter and now it’s time to see how it is getting on. We deliberately chose an ok hive rather than a massive one as many new beekeepers can get disillusioned if they find their hive at anything less than full strength after the winter.

Hello Chris, nice looking colony building up for the summer months, great tip having plenty of tea and cake after inspecting your hives. Thank you for taking us along with your at your apiary.
It’s a pleasure. Thanks for your interest. Lots more videos to come. We have a very busy year planned.
I love how calm they (and you) are. Lovely to watch
It’s really important to have calm bees. These are all Buckfast strain.
Hi Chris, Enjoyed this - as ever. Just received my first ever nuc, now looking forward to a first years learning!
Great. I hope you really enjoy your beekeeping.

If I'd left mine this late to do a first inspection, I'd have lost 2 swarms. They're coming on nicely and very good temperament too.
We’ve had some rubbish weather here really holding them back. Cold, frost, rain, a bit of snow & a lot of wind. Apart from that it’s been great. Each time they started to build up they got knocked back.
