- FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: What software do you use to make your videos?
A: I use Windows Live Movie Maker to create my animations.
Q: What camera do you use?
A: The camera I use is a Canon EOS Rebel T3i.
Q: What software do you use to edit your videos?
A: All effects are done manually without the use of editing. I occasionally use Photoshop to do minor things such as color correcting certain frames.
Q: How many Frames Per Second do you use?
A: Most of my stop motions run at 0.09 - 0.06 seconds per frame.
Q: What music is in the video?
A: Music: Halo - Spartan Assault OST "Rising" by Tom Salta
Q: Where do you get your sound effects?
A: Here's a link to Sergeant Major Avery Johnson's Channel. He takes sound effects directly from the Halo games, so all the sounds are authentic! / channel
Q: How do you get figures to walk?
A: I frequently use an adhesive material called "sticky tack" whenever I am positioning a figure to walk or when I'm having trouble balancing it.
Q: How did you get so good? How do I improve?
A: The ONLY way to improve your stop motions is to continue practicing. I've been doing stop motions (off and on, mostly off) for about 3 years to get to my current capabilities.
Here (below) are a few key beginner mistakes and fixes.
1a. Light flicker - individual images' lighting doesn't match perfectly, therefore, when the pictures are played quickly together, it appears as though the stop motion is flickering.
2a. How to fix the issue:
- Close off all sources of light (especially natural light from the sun).
- Position a lamp pointing onto your stop motion set.
- Added benefit -- Lighting is a principle element of composing intriguing stop motions.
1b. Unnecessary or unwanted camera movements that cause the stop motion to appear as if it is violently shaking.
2b. How to fix the issue:
- Use a tripod to hold your capture device. A tripod also enables you to position your camera from (almost) any angle.
- If not a tripod, then tape your camera into place
- If not tape, then use a form of sticky tack or similar substance.(tape/sticky tack may damage or leave residue on certain surfaces, use your personal discretion to decide if it is necessary).
1c. Not implementing properties of physics - To make a stop motion appear real, you'll have to apply the concepts of real life to it.
2c. How to fix the issue:
- You don't need a Master's Degree in physics.
- Understand that objects accelerate and decelerate (in stop motion, this is occasionally referred to as "easy-in and easy-out)".
- An object moving slow requires MORE images and as it moves faster (hence accelerates) it needs LESS pictures. When the entity comes to a stop, slowly take more and more images until it is no longer moving.
- This is unrelated to acceleration and deceleration, but figures shouldn't perform an action that requires force without some sort of
prior action to prepare for it. For instance, if a figure jumps it shouldn't simply propel forward. First, it must bend its knees and then swing its arms backwards in order to prepare to thrust itself into the air.

Poor Chief...can't even get to Cortana. This animation is amazing, as with all your animations.
Thanks Omega!
I was trying to make Chief look a bit melancholy and lost. I'm glad you noticed... It's not easy to do when the figure is only 2 inches tall, and there aren't any facial expressions! :P
I think you are one of the best animators out there, amazing job
Your work will continue to inspire people. It still inspires me all the times and your animations are not just smooth or good they are artistic having cinematography and life to to them. Also been a fan always will be.
Thanks for always hanging around and showing your support! I appreciate your words, they really made me smile!
@@AxiologyStudios : )
0:16 "im sorry chief its not working out we have to *_break_* up"
Chief 😭😭
Sorry for not posting as frequently as I'd like to.
This is a collection of various stop motions that I've made.
Nothing special, just "tests"... i.e. a rocket launcher shot, doing flips in the air, Master Chief being sad, etc. xD
-Dawson
Axiology Studios dude your AMAZING 👍👌
I'd pay money for you to make a movie
also please upload a how to on that tank and some of those figures. and please tell me how you did some of those techniques
Axiology Studios I already ask this about the ultra but how did you make the general elite
Axiology Studios
Where did you get all those pieces
That scorpion tank is sick! MEGA CONSTRUX, TAKE NOTES xD
Im laughing at the helmet removal one. I like the CE reference
I freakin love the tank!!
I also really like your custom figures!
You are so good at this! Im also thinkin of doin mega bloks/construx stop motion. Halo for life
Definitely give them a try! If you need any tips or general information, then make sure to read the description of my video. After that, feel free to ask me any questions! Halo for life! :D
-Dawson
Honestly, you are a great animator. If you were to make a legit series or at least one complete video with a coherent plot or something along those lines, it'd be amazing. Keep up the great work
Thanks Cameron!
I've been working on a story. After I complete the story, I'll make a story board (to plan what each scene looks like). Once that's done, I'll go to actually make the stop motion, then, I can finally add sound effects and publish it.
It's going to be a lot of work, and I'm not done with the first step, but it'll be worth it once it's done!
Axiology Studios Sounds awesome, can't wait for that to be completed!
Axiology Studios I can wait and this is going to be awesome for sure
Every time, just before I'm going to do animation I take a look on your videos because they inspirate me so much 😍
That's great to hear, Clic! It makes me happy to inspire others! :)
I hope to see it. I know it can be daunting. I made a 15 minute Godzilla movie which is crude (especially at the start) by these awesome standards and it took 13 months. My advice is to just keep moving forward. Sometimes you need to skip ahead and work back to fill in the gaps. Good luck.
i love the costum SCORPION TANK
Thanks! :D
@@AxiologyStudios it looks better than the real set
The running part was awesome
very cool !!! I like your custom elite ultra
YOUR_CAT_Studio das very true I loved it
Thanks guys! :)
I am breathless.... That scorpion is the best MOC I've ever seen... keep up the amazing work! ;D
Thanks! ... And cool boots. :P
Axiology Studios :)
What sets did you primarily use?
@@multitudeshoesinc8902 My builds are always combinations of random parts from many sets. I definitely used pieces from an old rhino tank or two, but beyond that I can't remember. Maybe an elephant as well?
@@AxiologyStudios It still looks amazing.
This is really incredible, I would honestly fund a full length film with this quality animation. Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks Lemonhuine!
The stop motion is IMPECCABLE. You earned yourself a subscriber
Thanks Babycakes! Welcome to the channel! :D
This is literally the best mega blocks animation I've ever seen
Great stop motion good sir. These shorts are great examples of how it is possible to make good stop motion videos using such small mini-figures. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Isaac! I quite enjoy these smaller figures, they have an excellent range of motion for only being two inches (~5 cm) tall. :)
Take care!
-Dawson
I can't believe you made the scorpion from scratch. Good job👍
can you please upload a how to on your tank and some of those characters
Thanks guys!
The Scorpion tank is a very difficult build, and requires pieces from many, many various sets. With that said, I will make a video to showcase the build soon.
Have a nice day!
-Dawson
tbh this is really amazing how you put everything together and especially the custom reach elite
Thanks Magma! My editing isn't the the best, but I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
The running Hazop and E. O. D. were the best.
I love it!
Thanks Chepy! Also, I appreciate you being specific about what you liked. It'll help me decide the type of scenes to make in the future!
Take care!
-Dawson
Simply put...amazing. If there's a good you're doing his work.
I think you meant to say Dog?
Thanks! :P
Wow! Your atmosphere and motions are always stunning!
Thanks Miss Yadiel! I do my best! :)
Axiology Studios You are welcome!
Great scorpion, and the animations as a whole are legendary quality.
Thank ya' Heroscape Z! :)
This is why me and 3.5K subs have subbed to you. Definitely you should get more.
I have more on the way soon! :D
This deserves all the likes and views it gets, it really good and it made me laugh 😂
That was the most insane thing I've seen all month!!!!
Well this is some truly amazing animation. I look forward to your future work!
Thanks for stopping by Metric Caboose! I'm glad to see some familiar faces from Spartan Bloks! :)
The running was perfect 👌
Wow! Absolutely amazing work!
You inspire me :)
Also nice scorpion tank! It looks like the halo 3 version.
I tried to make more stop motion since im a beginner im no expert but this is good stop motion and amazing graphics good fps
Woah... scorpion was awesome. Amazing animating also! Very cool!
Thank you! The Scorpion tank took days and weeks to design... Especially the front treads. I'm happy to see you like it! :)
you and many other youtubers are what inspired me to do stop motion
That's wonderful to hear, Banished Hunter! I often find that many of my viewers inspire me. Funny how that works! :)
Axiology Studios yup
Your animations are always so satisfying to watch! And as always a learning experience for me. Looking forward to the next one. :)
-Loco
Hi there Loco! Thanks for watching. When I first began learning to make stop motions, I would occasionally watch Lego animations to learn. I'm glad I've gotten to the point where people want to learn from me! It's an honor! :)
Take care!
-Dawson
I wat to say your videos are so amazing thanks for makeing them.
You're welcome! Thank you for watching! :)
That brute chieftain just wow 🤩 he looks so sick
Thanks! I'm making a new, even bigger, custom one >:)
Awsome😁
This was really really cool, superb animation as always
Thanks Qadeer! :D
u make the best megabloks stopmotion I've ever seen keep it up👍👍👍
omg i love that you have a god skill axialogy studios that was the best hope you love your job and good work :)
Haha, thank you Viokay.
I love making stop motions, but unfortunately it isn't my job --- just a hobby. :P
U AND MOOTRIDXPRODUCTIONS ARE THE BEST AND SMOOTHEST ANIMATORS EVER
Haha, thanks man! :D
i love your work with the mega construx
Thanks man! :)
omg I luv this sooo much
Thanks ODST! :D
Your so good with customs, also how do you think of your landscapes/backgrounds?
As always, amazing job on these man; it's nice to see someone consistently doing really nice Mega Construx Halo stop motions - even if they're mainly just tests for now. Keep up the good work m8 ^_^
Thanks ARC Command! I appreciate the thoughtful words! :)
And here I am cant even getting the figures to walk. Excellent job!
Haha, thanks! I know your pain; trust me, I was there!
I might start working on a walk tutorial... I'm not that great at teaching, but I'll have to give it a try. :)
Axiology Studios awesome! That would be great!
Also that is some wicked cool stop motion animations
2 years later and still look better than mines.
Damn these are so good! I should probably rethink my free time.
Put in the time and effort, and results will certainly show!
AMAZING! You truly are a God among men!
Haha, if you say so! :P
Really well made
Thank you Derpy Kid! :D
Excellent job, as always
Thanks EACP! :)
dude badass man and hella good job on the scorpion and love the odst's
Thank you Josiah! I love ODSTs too! :)
Amazing! Your animation style is unique and amazing
Thanks Ugly S.M. Studios!
I find it intriguing that people can have their own "style" of stop motion. I too noticed this! :)
-Dawson
Good job, cool customs.
you really are an amazing animator
Thanks Fat Bird! :D
Could you do a tutorial on the reach elites I would love how to make them oh and maybe the brute chieftain can get a tutorial too,
This is so realistic, it reminds me of the original halo games, you should be hired to make a halo megabloks show
Thanks Mr. Master Chief!
Unfortunately for me, I believe Mega Brands already has a stop motion animator hired that does their stop motions. If you go to the official Mega Construx CZcams channel, you can see some of the things they do! :)
Have a nice day!
-Dawson
Hello I really really love you work and you inspired me to make more stop motions beacause I was thinking of cwitting thanks for reading my comment
Hi Grant!! Thank you!! Please keep making animations, and have fun!! :D
I love the energy swords too
The general be looking fire🔥
I love your channel. The only thing separating you from people like Mootroid X is the fact your vids don't have story's.
Thanks Vortex!
I've been planning to create a story for quite some time, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist... Furthermore, I've never actually written a story in my life (other then that horrible detective story in 5th grade... [shivers down my spine]).
Perhaps I will start taking suggestions for stories in the future. :)
-Dawson
beautiful !!!
Thanks! My sister taught me a few things from her french class. Let me know if I butcher this:
Je ne parle pas très bien français...
Merci. :)
Take care!
-Dawson
+Axiology Studios good, that is the most important phrase :D
Haha, I also know numbers up through 12 if it helps. :P
0:29 *sees dust cloud* Wow! Cool editing! *looks in description; sees Q asking "What Software do you use to edit your videos" with A: "I don't edit my videos."* Wait.... hold up. How is this not edited? Or.... did you _LIE_ to us?!
All jokes aside, these are amazing as usual, Dawson. Can't wait for your next one! (Whenever that is.)
this moves so smoothly, it must take a lot of time
Thanks Michael! It's a lot of time, but my hopes are that it's worth it! :)
this is awesome
Amazing as always Axiology.
Thanks!
Excellent usages of "shaky cam"
Thanks! Often times it's unintentional... :P
Excellent compilation as always, man! Love your custom Elite, please do a tutorial someday! :)
Thanks!
Making a tutorial for the Elite is unlikely seeing as how it was sculpted by hand, and therefore isn't easily replicated. However, that isn't to say it won't ever happen... It's just not probable. :P
-Dawson
Love the custom brute chieften
Really like the setting.
Thank you Mr Kajko!
I put much time and effort into creating the scenery, so I appreciate you noticing it! :D
HOLY COW!!!! I've never seen such an action packed and smooth stop motion in my life! This is really cool! I am wondering, what is the music you used for this amazing animation? Just curious😁
Great job you are so good at this
You should seriously do like a tips and tricks video for stop motion yours are amazing I especially love the drones wing animations
Ahh! Good idea! That would be an easy thing to make a tutorial on! :D
XD the end
Very good tho
It's actually really nice scorpion!!!!
Thanks Revenant!!! :D
1:44 - 1:53 is my favorite
Thanks! I wasn't particularly happy with how the ODST portion went, but the hammer swing turned out nice! :)
0:00 to 2:41 is my favorite
What a great thing to wake up to.
Thanks Rey! :)
Once again you have exceeded my expectations. The video was smashing!!!
I do have one question though. How do you make your figures walk on smooth surfaces?
Keep up the good work!
-Blaise
Hey Blaise!
I use "sticky tack". It's an adhesive material usually meant for attaching things to walls. However, it works _wonders_ when making stop motions. Are you tired of your figures falling over? Not a problem with sticky tack! (This is beginning to sound like an infomercial...)
I spend tons of time making sure it is all hidden, though. :P
-Dawson
Thanks a ton Dawson. I've been trying to find a solution for animating on flat surfaces and your answer might do the trick!
Stay classy,
-Blaise
Nice elite general
Well done. That's a great video!
Awesome at the end love ur work keep it up
The end was my favorite part. :P
Can we just pause on that nice ass reach era elite ultra...and look at that elite general....DEEEYUM
your CZcams channel is so much awesome
Thanks :D
chilllll, too smooth
It's quite hot out today, I'll try to chill out. :P
Your custom elite general... Is so good keep up the good work I would kinda like to see a reach zealot or Field Marshal
I love the elites from Halo Reach! I might try a Field marshal, but I'm afraid the prongs of the helmet will be very delicate and might break. :/
Awesome
Thanks Rookie!
Axiology Studios that's ok
And I like your custom brute chieftain
Thanks, I've decided to stop working on that custom because I didn't get the proportions correct. I'll be working on a much better brute in the future!
Axiology Studios I've made my own custom brute chieftain
Amazing as always Dawson, keep up the good work!
Thanks Braandooon! I'll be posting more in the coming days! :)
Axiology Studios Any Halo Wars 2 animations in the future?
I haven't had any specific ideas that revolve around Halo Wars 2. I've had a story (mostly just the plot, really) written that would be about The Great Schism. The main problem which is holding me back is I don't have enough pieces to build the background scenery of a Covenant ship and/or High Charity.
I'll have to keep thinking... Thanks for the suggestion though!
-Dawson
Axiology Studios Here's hoping Mega Construx starts making more covenant building sets.
Yes, definitely. I wish I had the money to buy 10 scarab sets. xD
That brute be vibin' doe
He's a free spirit to say the least~~
This is just me but u deserve about 10 mil
It's not just you... I agree too.
(I'm not biased _at all_ )
Another great video. Good job!
Thank you R.I. Cruise! I'm glad you enjoyed!
Mootriod Gun nut and you are the top 3 best Stop motioners out there
Thanks! :)
Axiology Studios np I award u with food nipple anyways did U Make that elite custom?
I'm not sure what I'll do with a food nipple... Uh... But, yes, the elite was hand sculpted using two part epoxy! :P
Axiology Studios well u did a great job on it
Bruh this was awesome!!!!
One word:epic!
Is the best chanel of stop motion
Thanks David! :D
Just when I thought you couldn't top that honor guard.....
:D
Wow, really impressive!
You're an incredible director, your custom figures are spectacular, and your motion is beautiful. Have you ever considered setting up a Facebook page? I'd love to see some behind-the-scenes.
Thanks Mootroid! It's great to hear from you!
I don't use social media all that much. However, if you're interested in behind-the-scenes style videos, I could try and make one. Is there anything specific I should focus on in the video?
Thanks again, have fun with your stop motions!
-Dawson
Axiology Studios your videos are even better than mega bloks stop motions keep up the good work
Axiology Studios also if you could would you be able to make a custom articulated jackal would be super awesome if you could btw the tank is sweet looks super complex
Thank you Jay!
I'm going to be working on a brute figure soon. A jackal is a good idea though, I'll have to think about it and see what I can do! :)
Regarding behind-the-scenes videos, I really don't know exactly what I'd want to see. Even just a photograph of your set would suffice.
Brilliant work. Keep it up
Thank you for your support! :D
these tests are absolutely amazing! Especially the part with the fast moving parts. You should really make a full length stopmotion! But is that amazingly put together gray flashback thingy meant for a full video? hint hint
Thanks SpeedyNoob!
The black and white scenes where Master Chief is slowly falling _were_ meant for a story a few (probably about 8...) months ago. I lost track of where the story was going, so I scrapped it.
The problem I had/have with writing a story that involves the Master Chief is that I can't write my own dialogue -- It has to be things MC _actually_ says in game, and the only choice I have is to change the context. As such, it was incredibly difficult to find a way to make an interesting story.
Maybe in the future I'll try again! :)
-Dawson
+Axiology Studios I agree, its tough to come up with a story that would be worthy of the chief, not that I'm any good at this but when I do a story with MC I just try to make it like a possible mission from the games. That way there doesn't have to be much dialogue and could be a lot of scenes of just him figuring things out. I don't know but that might help get a story "moving"
Wonderful insight, Andrew! That's a very unique approach to creating a story. I'll have to try thinking about it some more...
"Hey take your helmet off"
*takes helmet off*
*another helmet underneath the first helmet*
"what the..."
I was going to make him drop the helmet and take the second one off, only to reveal another helmet. :P
SHOW US HOW YOU MAKE YOUR CUSTOM FIGURES!!! ESPECIALLY THE ELITES!!!
OKAY BUT FIRST CALM DOOOWNNN!!!
I'll try to post something on my instagram (@axiologystudios), but for now, here's a quick breakdown:
1.) Use a piece of paper to cut out the shape of the helmet
2.) Use two part epoxy resin to mold the helmet shape. Also mold the body out of this epoxy. (perhaps elongate the arms and legs too)
3.) attach the helmet to the head...
4.) paint
and VOILA!!!! YOU'RE DONE!! YAY!!!!
