  • I did not find any obvious vacuum leak anywhere. But I'm not ready to pull the carbs yet.
I forgot to mention in the video that I found a fuel leak. There's a metal tube that goes from the accelerator pump up into the top plate of the carbs. I can now see that the o-rings are leaking.
Here's Gordon's video showing more detail.

Thank you for the tip on putting that hose on. I watched a video where the guy removed the fan housing to find a vacuum leak, I am going to try that before I pull my carbs. Thanks for the video.

Thats not the pvc line. Thats the air intake for the air shot system ( smog ) It allows fresh air to be shot into the intake on decel so it will pass emissions in CA.
If you look on your heads youll see metal tubes going to each intake runner right at the head. Thats what those are.
that system is a MAJOR cause of vac leaks. If you put a rubber plug on that in the intake box it will often take care of many issues......but clamp it.....dont want the plug sucked into a carb now do we?
If it still has a leak.....the the air shot system is leaking, and all 6 intakes are getting to much air. Carbs have to come off....because the air shot is on the block under the carbs and the rubber mat.
Best way to tell if its bad.......listen to the black plastic 90 as it runs.....if it sounds like some one mowing a rock drive way, the air shot valve is open when it shouldnt be.
    yay Honda?........lol
Failed air shot will cause a low rpm bog off the line, and u can test it by blocking off half the intake port on the air box with card board......if it runs better blocked, your sucking air somewhere.
    Good Luck

Thank you very much for that explanation Matt. Are you on any of the goldwing forums? I see you don't make any videos on goldwings. Maybe you should,,,lol. Sounds like you know what you're talking about.
On a side note. I am getting some cackling out of the exhaust on decel. Would that be an indication of an air leak in the shot system? Thanks

Hello, I have a problem with the idle speed, it only goes from 800 to 1400 rpm, it works poorly for a while and then it only goes back to 800 and works fine for another hundred miles and so on. Any ideas? thank you.

When ever I have carb problems the first thing I do is run sea foam through it. Many times it fixes the problem. But not always,,,,lol. It's just something to try.

HELP I have just lowered the handlebars on my 1500 Goldwing GL, torqued up the head bolts to 18ft.lbs and now the throttle grip is seized shut. what have I done wrong?

Sounds like you messed up a cable. Maybe try taking loose the bars and see if that releases a bound up cable. Just a thought?

So did you figure out the surging idle??

Not yet. Still doing other maintenance stuff just to get it road worthy. Pulling the carbs is the last thing I want to do. But I see that job in my future. Probably over the winter.

@@quickcalsgarage4782 I rebuilt both carbs on my 94 interstate a month after I bought it from a guy. It's difficult to get the 0 ring for the accelerator pump in the carb rebuild kit from Taiwan. I bought both plyers from harbor freight with the 45 angle on it. You will need the super long phillips screwdriver that is almost 2 feet long to undo the rubber intake boots that holds both carbs on. So you have to take off both sides of the fake tank. It's not a job for beginners or non mechanics. quite tedious. Might as rebuild the carbs or check out the jets to see if they are partially clogged and that the floats are set properly. Not for beginners for sure. good luck. 😀
