Having Jluv say he doesn’t own any stocks and wasn’t saving anything for retirement told me all I needed to know. His lack of traditional financial literacy discredits any point he made about Pokémon investing.
I can see how one might feel that way but personally despite that perspective I still found his skepticism probably represented most people who’ve been in the hobby a long time. Things seem like they are moving a bit too fast IMO honestly. All the sudden every swsh set getting wings and you don’t find that just a little bit of a hype bubble? We’ve seen this many times in different areas of the hobby and almost always when there’s this much hype it comes back down. Not all the way down, but I’m guessing we see a retrace. Now maybe JLUV doesn’t say that specifically or articulate it but that’s how I resonate with his thoughts on it. And it’s just getting repetitive seeing the same content over and over so he’s probably semi frustrated as I am. 😂

Really appreciate the honesty and vulnerability you bring to your content. Makes it awesome to watch and easy to relate to. Entry points should always be kept simple, I’ve always gotten my cards and product as they are first released and I decide what to keep and what cards are worth grading. People will catch on as what to look for in sets and cards to target in the future. Keep it up man!

Dude really good points you bought up Pokemon has insane potential for making money and selling some things to work your way up to collections goals is something I honestly looked down on for a while but now understand it's not an inherently bad thing. Towards the end you mentioned how you really want to collect some cards that eventually become just about unattainable that I really have felt plenty of times with older cards from my childhood. I actually lost a childhood collection with gold stars and what not to no fault of my own but I know what you mean. It was nice of you to show off your forever items I appreciate that man and appreciate you in general a great video with so many great points made. You have opened my mind up a bit and I'm thankful

modern sealed will catch up to a lot of earlier sets, especially this sword and shield era simply because more people are in the hobby nowadays
I still think there’s a ceiling for a lot of it long term because of how much was printed. I refuse to believe these boxes will be over 3k in 5 years but we’ll see. The whole thing is interesting regardless. Will history repeat itself again?

glad that they was civil but I don't understand the problem. I have NOT heard any of them tell people to buy buy buy. People ask what they are investing in and they answer the people. No matter what you invest in there is RISK. Just do what you think is best for you cause only you know your situation. People always create drama even when there is no drama. Every youtube have click bait thumbnails but the content is what it is. If you don't like it than don't watch it. Spend your money how you see fit. Forget about what others have to say.

I've started a new binder collection since my thousand-card binder is getting full. I've shuffled around a lot of cards, including my Alt arts and trainer gallery. The new binder isn't a master set or anything intense like that. It's actually inspired by Deeppocket Flynn and is based on one of my all-time favorite games, Pokémon Showdown. I call it the pokedex.

When you mention sick collections I always think of Rusty who has stuff no one else has. And he’s as much a passionate collector as he is a business man and family man. Investor is probably a distinct 4th place for him, on the topic. I respect that the most because he is working the heck out of the margins and making most of his breaks in real time instead of leaving things up to the market even though I’m sure he believes in it too over time.
Rusty is one of the undisputed goats for sure. Very humble. Very wholesome NC boy 😎
I think it's more of the investment side that affects collectors and players.
It affects us all for sure players can’t build decks if the product is scarce or scalped and collectors can’t collect for the same reasons… not sure if that’s how you meant it 🤷🏻♀️

You don’t need to do anything formal to be a sole proprietorship. It’s basically the default business type for most side hustles or even single owner businesses. From what I’ve looked into, you just file everything under schedule c.
And for sales taxes, I believe you can get sales tax refunds directly with the state. But honestly it’s super confusing, but it is sort of hard for me to justify spending $500-1000 on an accountant just to answer my questions. Also a lot of accountants don’t know their shit correctly, I would do my best to look into this stuff yourself first.
Thanks fam I’ve been looking into it and at the end of the day I’m happy to pay taxes and if I still have margin even a small one that’s fine too. The main thing is I don’t want to over complicate something I do for fun. Business and fun are two totally different beasts. What makes Pokémon great for me is that it’s not my job. I don’t think I’ll ever quit working for that reason. It allows me to buy and collect how I want without compromising. Maybe when I’m older I’ll stop working though we’ll see. My accountant is 250$ annually but like you said… sometimes they just don’t know their stuff and aren’t as helpful
@@orionsires I’ve only filed my taxes once tbh (semi-recent college grad), but the stress of it is crazy bc of how confusing it is. I just know when I tried hiring a bookkeeper they were gonna charge me $500 at intuit. Back in like February.
And then this random tax guy I asked in April was asking for $650-1000. He said that was just for forms tho, not even bookkeeping.
Is it really only $250 for you for bookkeeping and the filing?

Love your content Orion and agree with 99% of what you say about the hobby,
But completely disagree about your point about how significant the influence of poketubers in particularly Colin at poke office for example.
Whilst, I’m not trying to put down 15,000 subs or however many subs Colin has, there is absolutely no chance that channels like poke office or nostalgia Nomics are having a big impact on the prices of booster boxes.
If I was to grade influence as a percentage I would say poketubers influence the market less than 2%.
No you might be right maybe there’s not a connection there but I still feel when you also take into account the other channels with millions of subs them opening stuff is definitely infectious but maybe it’s all organic. I always play devils advocate even my channel has likely influenced some kind of behavior in the hobby. But always feel free to express your opinion that’s the best part of making content is hearing what people really think 😎
While you have a lot of money in Pokemon and it’s “high risk” you are young and can take the risks and have time to wait everyone out. ( even rudy) when i was your age i wish i put all my money in Pokemon. Blew it all on dumb stuff that holds no value these days. Keep it up. 😊

@@orionsiresyeah Rudy might always be bigger but that's the difference in money motives and personal collecting lol I was basically homeless when I started collectingswsh right around the time celebrations released. I started collecting after my mom dropped off my vintage collection. I recently got my HVAC certification so hopefully the cash flow changes the way Im able to live, collect. College is stressful I'm still attending atm. How long did you go for financing, business? Can't remember exactly what you said. A lot was talked about in this video.
That was a long winded video man and yeah I watched the stream. I think as collectors this deep we all get a little too obsessed with trying to become Poke rich. The pandemic really structured our minds into seeing cards as much more about money because everything was scalped and nothing was available. I don't think that tramas going away any time soon.
I still think that pokemon sealed investing is very sound unless they totally change the card format with "hologram space ghost rares" or something out of pocket. 😂. But who knows with that Pokemon Pocket game coming might affect? That's gonna be digital cards and packs. But more people agree on sealed investing is a safe bet then not. Only way I see that failing is if Pokemon fails and that will be a sad sad day.
Interesting, yeah definitely feel the poke rich dilemma not only was it traumatic for many other reasons too but the government was giving money out and that just made it that much worse 😂

Was there a reason you were buying all that pokemon stuff at the beginning? Like was it just the potential for it to go up in value? Like the plushies & the waffle maker, all the more niche stuff you bought? Bc I feel like at the beginning of most peoples return to the hobby, we don’t know what’s going on & we just hear “pokemon is making people so much money” so we all just went out and bought random packs and boxes from Walmart which was just random bulk bs that wasted our money. But then we all realized how to navigate the hobby a bit safer. But I found it interesting you mentioned you were even buying merch type of items at the beginning of your journey
I just had no idea what to buy and got obsessive over just about anything Pokémon… it was not my best moment but hey now we can make Pokemon waffles and drink coffee from snorlax head 😂🤷🏻♀️😭

I think with pokemon it’s gonna rise and rise until our generation hit there too earning power, but then I do think there could be a drop off At some point. I think pokemon is a good investment strategy but I think it’s about a percentage of your investment if your looking to invest.
I think with you your a collector so it is different, like you want the cards to own them not primarily to make money. With collecting it’s just like anything do you wanna put that 50 in drink or activities or anything.
The key thing I think with Pokémon is to have it as a percentage of your investment strategy
Definitely wouldn’t tell anyone to go all in on Pokémon BUT it’s treated me very well in a lot of ways I only regret not collecting sooner. I’m way more into Pokemon than I have been into anything else. I wonder what it would have been like if I had more stuff as a kid. Maybe I wouldn’t be so into it as an adult. I think the big part of collecting that happens over and over is the nostalgic feeling we get when we buy something that represents our childhood memories or even goals. When I was a kid I wanted all the Charizards and Blue eyes white dragons and now as an adult I can achieve that 😂😎

I used to like Rudy but the whole MetaZoo thing has me feeling a little indifferent about him. One thing I will say with any CZcamsr you enjoy:
You don’t truly know them. We only get to see one portion of who they are no matter how often they upload. Take them with a grain of salt. We can be as genuine as possible in our videos but that’s only one aspect the viewer gets to see. I don’t discount that he has made some good investments but I think there isn’t a 100% doubt that he hasn’t made some shady greedy moves either. Dunno. Like I said even your “favorite” Tubers, remember that. 😅
Yeah I mean I definitely don’t talk about my biggest losses often because I don’t have many but I definitely have made some major mistakes in my journey collecting and “investing” I never try to act like I’m a genius but more so share my opinions and even I have to remind myself to be as genuine as possible because at the end of the day it’s not sustainable to act like something you aren’t 😎🙏🏼
@@orionsires The thing is he talked about it before it was a "loss" but I do think it's important to at least publicly acknowledge that loss especially if you've backed it for MONTHS.. that's what I feel would be owed to those who supported him or anyone in that situation. Sure, no one can force anyone to buy or invest into something but when an unprecedented amount of attention or light is put on one specific product then to just sweep it silently in the night as if it was never there is just shady to me. I love anyone willing to put themselves out there with an opinion - on live video in front of savages lurking in chat. That being said, I found it incredibly ignorant of Jlove to talk down on Pokémon investing when he himself didn’t even seem to “invest” in ANYTHING. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t care about the level of his financial literacy, but to cast stones at something he clearly doesn’t understand in any way shape or form, is ridiculous. You can’t talk on something you barely know anything about. Comparisons to crypto and him saying real estate is a safe investment, safer than Pokémon safer than stocks - spoke volumes. Sad because why would someone so confidently take a stance about something being dumb when he doesn’t even know how to define risk in terms of investing? Like what? I felt like I was in the twilight zone.
Hahaha yeah apparently chat wasn’t happy overall but hey I respect anyone’s opinion it’s ok to be skeptical and part of it is probably envy of missing out. Genuinely think that plays a part. No one wants to feel left behind. Investing in trading cards full tilt is still risky and speculative IMO and I’m 50% in in terms of my net worth overall which is sketchy af 😂 and even I recognize that maybe I’m putting too much into this hobby but for me it’s also what I love. Investing in something I’m truly passionate about makes it that much easier. But investing/collecting in general seems somewhat intertwined IMO

I disagree. Pokemon is a HUGE market. You say it's not as big as we think you're right it's bigger. Think about this recently pokemon opened up to a massive audience just in China. Do you know what that means for the growth of this hobby? Please don't try to act like the fool jluv. I was into pokemon when growing up in the late 90s and I can tell you pokemon will only get bigger. Content creators are not the driving force because there are decades of growth where content creators weren't a thing.
Definitely appreciate all perspectives and I welcome opposing viewpoints as it can broaden my knowledge too I am aware of the growing market but also aware that collectibles can come and go. It’s good to keep an open mind and some healthy skepticism, but ultimately I hope Pokémon goes to the moon in popularity. The more people in the hobby the merrier! 😎🙏🏼
