- In this video, i have a wholesale account that did a transmission repair on a 2008 Land Rover, when plugging the harness back in the Tech bent a pin on the TCM, Helping out the repair shop, i sent the TCM to Softelectronic in Europe for repair, as usual they fixed it up for me, the repair shop reinstalled it and all is well. Hi Gary, I saw 5 bent pins in that plug as well as the broken one. Your customer needs to send his mechanic around to you to get some 'education' on how to install the plug I reckon. As there is a locating slot, you cannot really get it wrong. A good video lesson for us all.

You can reprogram these units. You just need to get it into boot mode which can be done either on the bench or via OBD2 with a K+DCAN adapter or one of a number of interfaces such as the HEXprog...at least this is the case for BMW.
If you contact xHP they also have software they use in support for a full write in the event of a botched flash while using their tuning software.
WINKFP also works on some rovers if you have the correct daten packages which are available online for free.
Well thanks to this video, I'll be able to see if my pins are vital for the car to run and get the issue fixed. Two of my pins broke off due to the plug being forced on.
Same happened to the car i fixed for my wholesale account, sent it to my guy in Europe and good as new

Thanks, Gary. I had a pin break off in the connector. No idea how that happened. I will be contacting Softelectronics on your recommendation. Like your colleague, I was very worried about the cost of replacement.

Looks like I got lucky. Upon closer inspection the female pin on the connector plug got pushed in and was making intermittent contact. The TCM pins are perfect.
Any tips on reseating the female pins in the harness connector?

Ive had that happen on a BMW once. After freaking out for a good hour I realized the pin that broke off wasnt used in that vehicle. Whew! Haven't made that mistake again!

was it an early model with mechanical linkage? im guessing the fancy range rover uses the electronic shifter option that needs those pins

you can reprogram them with ISTA+ or winkfp in expert mode. might even be able to us the XHP phone app too? the XHP people can help you if you contact them
Is that the same valve block as a ford? Is the computer the only difference?
Hi Gary I have a BMW 750i throwing a P0782, pretty rough 2-3 flare and goes into failsafe. Is this likely to be a valve body to pump seal, solenoid issue or an A/B clutch fault?
Don’t want to charge my customer if the thing is already toast.
could you see clutch fill times with your scanner?

ended up doing a service. mechatronic seals all original from 06 in good shape.
if shifted manually from 2-3 it’s pretty smooth otherwise it has a flare only when starting from a standstill in auto mode.
I saw 3 bent pins before you sent it off....

Hi. Great information videos. Can you suggest why their is delay of 2 sec when engaged in reverse. Its a x5 2008. 4.8. Zf6hp transmission. Is their problem with solenoid or something else.

Problem with Bmw with 6hp19 transmission code is : 4f85- clutch e. Is it the stator bushing causing this? Filling pressure for clutch e is 900 mbar
Probably. Pretty common. But could also be the seals between the valve body and transmission and/or clogged solenoids. Or all of the above. I had same issue. I replaced my valve body, solenoids and seals. Made a huge difference but I'm sure the stator bushing needs replacing in mine.
Hi Gary. I am doing as you recommend in this and other videos, but when I reasempled the part in the 2011 LR4 Land Rover, I had a noise in the engine or transmission that was not there before. Do you have any suggestions? The noise is a high pitch sound that eventually desapears. Any help is welcome.
Is the noise in all ranges(park,rev,neytral,drive) Does this change with engine pitch?
Hi, I have a 2016 acura mdx awd which has a bad TCM. Are you able to repair/rebuild this TCM and will this need reprogramming? Will a used unit require reprogramming if it’s from the same year make and model car? Thanks
Not able to repair, I'm honestly not sure if a used computer will work, i have not had any of thgese cars in the shop yet

I experience a rather strange problem regarding the transmission of my LR3 06
The TCM can not be detected from my iid tool the module is not available when the tool reading the ecus
Yesterday I did a complete service on my own filter fluids and plastic parts behind the mechatronic. The transmission took 2 liters of fluid and when I tried to change all gears to refill the rest the car has a transmission fault and F code in the dashboard . How is this possible when I can not see the TCM

Mine did that after I serviced it because the mechtronic seal didn’t go far enough in. Once I got it in all the way I got communication back.

I have the same problem. My car Land Rover LR2 2011, when starting the car, all most is good, but after 30 second or more, light traction is one, and transmission program is off!?

Hello, please Mr. Gary I need your experience, my vehicle is a gasoline bmw E60 545i 2004, my Tcm was defective I replaced it with a diesel, since the vehicle blocks at 5000 RPM. What to do, what do you recommend me, which software or device, best regards.
I would think to get correct tcm, what is wrong with original one?

Hi Gary, I was looking for information about this problem and I found your video. I have a 2004 545i with that same code 005088 EGS (Electronic transmission control) sensor transmission switch L1-L4. I wanted to know where I can get that unit. Thank you.
It could be your range switch that is built into the TCM or your shifter, Do you loose the display on the Dash or does the car not start in park or neutral when hot?
@@GaryFerraro Hi Gary, thank you for responding. Yes, that's how you write to me. When the car gives the error and you put it in park, you turn it off and it doesn't turn on again. You have to put it in neutral so it can start.

@@GaryFerraro I cleared them with the little tricks to temporarily clear, but the engine malfunction and reduced power one has popped up a couple times, as well as the transmission code as well… I feel it might be celanoids or the ignition coils, sidnotes, I also have worn pistons, and have had burning oil very fast and frequently until using two treatments of RISLONE to stop the white/blue smoke upon start… it has stopped that, just got an oil change, it’s holding oil, and running great other than the reduced acceleration and lack of power… maybe battery recharge? I DID have some issues with my subwoofer and battery touching for a few weeks and it drained the car, but I fixed said wiring
