    The Parodius (パロディウス Parodiusu?) series is a series of horizontally scrolling shooters developed by Konami. The games are tongue-in-cheek parodies of Gradius, hence the name (Parodius is a portmanteau of Parody and Gradius). It also parodies many other Konami franchises, including Antarctic Adventure, Castlevania, Xexex, Axelay, Thunder Cross, Taisen Puzzle-Dama, Space Manbow, Ganbare Goemon, Lethal Enforcers, Tokimeki Memorial and TwinBee.

    I wouldn't have included the MSX version, because it's a completely different game. It was even released two years prior (!) the Arcade version, has totally different levels, enemies, boss fights and music. That's why Parodius Da! is considered a sequel :)

    Funny how that one level of parallax scrolling the SNES has adds so much to the presentation vs PC Engine, NES, etc

    This clip will run long with the FC version, because the FC version is plagued by slowdown because Konami got too ambitious with a game that was already too ambitious for the FC to begin with.

    • @inceptional
      @inceptional Před 2 lety

      It actually runs pretty dang well on the SNES for the most part and never slow enough to ruin the game at all. And remember, this game didn't even use FastROM on SNES, so any slowdown here isn't actually an issue with the SNES console but the slower cartridge that Konami chose to use to save a few pennies. There's little doubt it could have run with basically no slowdown if Konami had bothered to fork out for the slightly faster cartridges, and in 2021 it's totally possible for some rom hacker like Vitor Vilela to make that happen. Also, even with a little slowdown, it still pisses on the Genesis version. . . . Oh, wait, the Genesis didn't even get this game, probably because it would look terrible if anyone compared it side by side with the SNES version at the time and saw the severe lack of colours, not quite enough background layers to even have the HUD overlaid on top of the levels, as well as the fact the music and sound fx would probably sound worse on Genesis too. So, yeah, in this case the SNES did what Genesis didn't--and it did it for like 3 or 4 Parodius games at that.

    • @fr_schmidlin
      @fr_schmidlin Před 7 lety

      +Christopher Sobieniak
      Yes. The MSX version was the origin of the series. In fact, it all started as an easter egg in the MSX exclusive version of Gradius-2. The MSX team was famous for having more creativity freedom inside the company, since Konami adopted the MSX as their own "console" instead of creating their own like Sega and Nintendo did.
      Parodius for the MSX was so successful that Konami flooded money to produce the arcade game with its characteristic super-production (for the time) cartoonish style. All other versions are ports of the arcade version and reused most of its assets.
