But in a situation like Locarno/Paris, they definitely should have had Robert McNeill continue as Locarno on Voyager instead of creating a virtually identical character and naming him Paris. Especially since they both had a similar backstory about being skilled pilots who were booted from Starfleet. It's also easy to imagine Locarno could have joined the Maquis like Paris.

    This gets me to thinking, what age do Vulcans consider adult? Vorik here says that Vulcans undergo Pon Farr every 7 years of their adult lives, and while I can buy that Vorik is in his 20s, so a young adult by human standards, other Vulcans we see undergoing their first Pon Farr are not. In TOS, Spock is at least in his 30s, due to having been on the Enterprise 10 years previously in The Cage, and is probably nearer his 40s due to his high rank, and in ENT T'Pol is in her 60s before her first Pon Farr. Of course Spock is half-human, which may affect things slightly, but T'Pol is not, so does this mean that Vulcans are kids until they're 60?

    • @brch2
      @brch2 Před 9 měsíci +2

      Spock was 37 during his first pon farr (born 2230, "Amok Time" is 2267). Real life, of course, they hadn't thought out all the details of Spock's life when they wrote the episode.
      In universe, pon farr could be like human adolescence... there is a range of years in which a Vulcan can expect to start the cycle. Given the longer life span, that range could be reasonably longer than the range humans expect to start adolescence.
      Spock being half human could affect that, and perhaps Vulcan females experience it differently.
      Spock, after being reborn on Genesis, started the cycle in his (relative) late teens/early 20s. Genisis effect likely had some role in that.
      But that's the closest comparison... human adolescence. No one age in which it kicks in. Some start early, others are late bloomers.
      Of course, it's also just down to writing... some writers are better and more consistent than others.
