  • Hey guys :) I hope you’re having a great day so far and welcome back to what’s for tea, and I hope I find you all very well.
Tonight for tea I made a very easy Chinese takeaway style chicken curry in the slow cooker.
This has such a lovely authentic Chinese takeaway flavour and is a nice ‘saucy’ chicken curry…this will be enough for 4 generous servings but if you’re feeding more folk, add a little more chicken…it just won’t be as saucy :) Thanks for popping over and let me know if you decide to give it a go, take care guys x
    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Serves 4 generously
3 chicken breasts/around 600g chopped into bite sized pieces
1 Medium potato, chopped into bite sized pieces
    1 Large onion, chopped
1 Jalapeño pepper, finely diced or green chilli pepper
4 Cloves of garlic finely diced or 2 teaspoons minced garlic
4-5 Tablespoons (30g) of curry powder
1 Standard can of coconut milk (400ml)
    300ml water
    1 Star anise
*Optional 1 teaspoon cornflour/cornstarch with a little water and mix in at the end to thicken*
*Optional garden peas or bell peppers add 30 minutes before serving*
Lovely with plain steamed/boiled short grain rice, fried rice or noodles….lovely with chips/fries too :)

Hi Cheryl, I just found your channel sometime last week and had to subscribe immediately! And after watching you make this beautiful looking curry I went straight to the supermarket and into the kitchen :) I do not like peas so i substituted them with carrots, which actually tastes very nice. And I do not have a slow cooker which is why I made it the old fashioned way with a pot on the stove. it worked out fine though i was a little apprehensive at first... Anyways, thanks for this wonderful meal and I am looking forward to cooking with you in the future! :)

Made this today. Really tasty. To thicken I used Bisto chicken gravy granules. Really worked well.
Make sure you use hot curry powder or add half a tea spoon of cayenne to medium. You really need the heat. I had this with pasta and it tasted great.

@@WhatsForTea I have to admit, when I first started to make Chinese food I (like everyone else) used Blue Dragon. It's the biggest seller, so can't be bad. Got more into Chinese cooking and realised it is pretty awful. Try Lee Kum kee dark/light soy as opposed to BD stuff and just about any Sweet and Sour is light years ahead of the BD offerings. Hell even uncle Ben's SnS is better. So going by these experiences I avoid at all costs lol. Now I'm off to make Chinese curry with bamboo shoots and bean sprouts.have a good one. T.
