I've done this to two different mowers with 18hp Oppys and it works great! Far better than struggling with a starter that only wants to work 3% of the time.
Yeah I took my starter apart and cleaned the brushes, worked awesome for 2 starts and then went back to sucking batteries dead. I'm tired of it, I'm going to build one of these.
+redlinemotorsportts They are generally very high compression engines. I have an 18.5 Horepower twin liek the one your talking about. No big deal. Although, I put a stronger starter on mine cause I found it rather annoying.
Thanks thats exactly what i was looking for. Ive got a twin on a small excavator i made and i dont want to really only on the batt and starter. I may not always be able to bring a boosterpack to the excavator if batt dies.
I still use my opposed twin as a mower, and when the starter is inoperable I take a push mower string with the pull handle (bought new just for this) and wrap ot around the blade belt pulley. I slip the blade belt back on and give it a tug.

My opposed hasnt ever let me down but has sure spooked me turning over slow or having to bump it a few times. I need one of these!

usually arnt to high of compression, but starters get weak. i think mines like that. I have since made a pull start for mine, never used it though. :)

Yeah i've tried every where everything i find looks like the pulled it out of the alantic
stretch44875 any idea on cost to ship it and i had sent a message about a front end and i got a little arc welder so i can fix it now
