This is so true. I witnessed it a couple of weeks back, and won against a player I kept losing to for years. When I was evaluating the game afterwards I realised that he didn't have many opportunities to attack from inside the court. Funny thing is I won in straight sets, only because he couldn't attack, what a revelation :)

Consistent hitting position drives excellent execution. On a personal level what this means for me is conditioning to be, as Will puts it, light on my feet so I can consistently have a uniform stroke. As we age, we lose a step (or two, or three) and we lose uniformity. First comes letting the ball drop, then the reach, and ultimately saying, "Nice shot." So, if I want to play competitively again (which I don't, I want to play for fun) I need to focus on getting back in shape so my body can be in position on every shot to execute the write shot at the right time, and it all starts with being there.

The main problem when you are between beginner and intermediate is when your opponent alternates between strong balls and neutral balls : when the neutral one comes after 2 or 3 strong balls, most of the time we don’t realise it and we don’t engage the body enough so the ball finishes in the net. Does your machine ball alternates aleatory the speed of the ball ?
