      So true, I am actually glad this show happened, because I always turned One Piece down because of the humor. The only way I can describe the humor sometimes, is way too much. Which for some people that works but to me it doesn't. I just saw it as a silly anime with no end. So I never got why it was so popular, until I saw the Netflix show and now I get it.

      @defenceforce1989 Před 7 měsíci +12

      Slightly disingenuous comment. Sure the overall volume sales are highest, but it is due to the high volume number, per volume there are quite a few manga ahead one piece, dragon ball for example has still sold more per volume, so did slam dunk, demon slayer and devilman. This means that likely more people read these mangas than one piece, because it all goes back to the fact that one piece is a continuous story with 100+ volumes which drives the overall sales number. This is quite rare for a manga, there are only few that are continuous stories for this long, has this many chapters and volumes. So one piece is not the most read manga, let alone book and comparing it to harry potter who's first book sold 120+ mil is not accurate.

    • @noocoo9117
      @noocoo9117 Před 7 měsíci +28

      @@defenceforce1989 why disingenuous? why not accurate? what I said is literally a fact. Top 10 best-selling fiction authors, fact. Best-selling manga of all time, fact. It's not my opinion, it's just a fact. One Piece still managed to publish its continuous story until today is an achievement in itself while other manga stopped publishing their volumes. As you said, "quite rare for a manga, there are only few that are continuous stories for this long, has this many chapters and volumes." Oda still can come up with his ideas for One Piece. Can other manga that you mention come up with more ideas for their story?

    One thing to note with the world of One Piece is that people can be freakishly strong without having any "powers", like Devil Fruits. Garp hints to this when he speaks of his training to Coby and Helmeppo, and Luffy went through the same training with Garp. Add to that the tensile strength of rubber and Luffy's tolerance to pain, and he can easily punch through stone like seen in this episode :)

    I love how this show demonstrated power levels and that although Luffy has the highest bounty in East Blue, he is currently just an ant to the likes of Garp, Mihawk, Shanks and by extension, others they will encounter in the Grand line.

  • @badplay156
    @badplay156 Před 7 měsíci +23

    The interaction with Garp is greatly increased in the live action. He is very much a peripheral character. He is considered a little unpredictable and unbalanced by the marines on the same level. His laughing when things are not going as expected I'd true to the character. He has turned down promotions and all the admirals are ridiculously over powered. There is much more Koby than I'm the animé. In the fight with Arlong they had 3 lieutenants one for each crew member. Zoro's was an octopus man who used 8 swords. They cut him due to budget and the difficulty in making him believable

    The Garp grandpa reveal doesn't happen in the anime until much, much later so it's not surprising if you don't remember it; you may not have gotten to it in the anime.
    As for his strength, many believe that Garp is the strongest marine...which is crazy when you consider all the wildly powerful devil fruit powers that exist in this world. Garp is after all "the hero of the marines" (as mentioned in episode 1), & the one who captured the king of the pirates all those years ago.

  • @NealMarchuk
    @NealMarchuk Před 7 měsíci +8

    Loved your reaction to this season finale! Pudgey's tears are nothing at all to be ashamed of, or surprised at. As I may have mentioned before now, the emotional impact of this series is a sign that it's staying true to Oda-sensei's vision and storytelling.
    It's also not a surprise that Spartan doesn't remember anything of the relationship bewteen Luffy and Garp. Those of us who've seen much more of the anime weren't shocked by it (except perhaps by how quickly it was revealed in live action), but it simply wasn't a feature of the East Blue arc in the original story. The same goes for Koby and Helmeppo's friendship and development. That was covered in a series of single-panel vignettes (aptly called "Koby-Meppo") included before chapters of the manga over the course of several months.
    I hope you didn't expect Garp to be utterly lacking in fighting prowess. After all, he is a vice-admiral in the Navy, and as he stated, has been offered even higher promotion more than once. One doesn't acheive a rank like that in the military without physical chops. But I'll admit that, after seeing Luffy and his friends in action and being so impressed, it can be shocking to see how easily Garp manhandles him. In a way, it's a wake-up call --- for the Straw Hats and for us. Like Zoro's battle with Mihawk, it gives us a glimpse of the power levels they'll be facing on the Grand Line, and how hard they'll have to work to survive there.
    I'm glad you mentioned Arlong's past. You're right about the hints he dropped about his own sufferings, and long-time watchers of the anime will agree that they make him slightly more sympthetic. Not to give away any details, but it is indeed a very painful story, and they might touch on that more in future seasons of the live action.
    Just subscribed. Looking forward to future videos!

    8:59 I wish they had kept the original exact line of “tell me: exactly when did I break my promise?”
    It makes you realize that he never physically did anything and she didn’t have any tangible proof that he had any involvement. At that point Nami realized she was helpless because he had planned it all along. He was never gonna let her go, and instead insinuating that he didn’t *do* anything to her money gave the buildup that she was never gonna be able to leave, and she would just have to pile up enough money again and again just for it to get taken away.
    In the live action version, he’s more transparent that he lied, giving the excuse of “humans do it!” It doesn’t really implant the same weight of helplessness because he’s basically telling her straight out that he took her money, whereas him pointing out that he never physically *did* anything to it just leaves a hole in your heart.

    Watching and reading One Piece I have found myself crying like a 5-year-old and then laughing while my tears haven't dried yet or hating someone so much, but end up loving them. I have read many novels, manga, webtoons, comics, and other kinds of books, but I have never experienced so many different emotions in a single series. I have cried or laughed while reading other stories, but such mixed emotions were never there. From my experience, this is the type of story that drips feeds your emotions and then bangs you with something hard. By the time this bang comes, you are already emotionally attached to the characters/events happening, so it hits you harder. Hence, the magic of One Piece.

    It is wild how they worked out in the span of 8 episodes got through the east blue saga which is about 50 episodes. And on top of that they condensed in bits and such from later, like yes Garp comes a Lot later (and the show runners actually had to win Oda over on the idea of bringing in Garp and revealing his relation to Luffy this early).
    We live in a bizarre timeline where Sonic gets live action movies that don't suck and One Piece got adapted well.
    Also, the montage with reusing the backstory kid clips was actually an afterthought done by one of the editors they kept in because it fit so well.

So it’ll likely be late 2025 or 2026 for season 2 unfortunately.

    Grandpa is a unique addition from the live action. The reveal of Luffy having a grandfather who is a Vice Admiral is supposed to happen far later at a point where the viewer can get an understanding of the sort of monsters those Marines with some sort of Admiral rank are.
    In terms of the changes that disappointed me the most that weren't due to practical / budget reasons, one is that Usopp doesn't really star in his own arc. He is supposed to have his own moment to shine in it, but instead we only see him show some of his strength when he blows up that fishman in the final episode.
    And for Nami's arc, I disapprove of the changes they made to the plot in regards to the villagers and Nojiko. Even if I ignore Bellemere being demoted to a harmless soccer mom compared to the original, there still remains the fact that in the original, Nojiko, Genzo and the villagers played a more substantive role where they all supposed Nami in their own way. Nojiko got those tattoos of hers as one way to support her. The villagers pretended to hate Nami so that Nami could run away from Arlong without feeling responsible for them. Nami's eventually mental collapse where she stabs the crap out of her tattoo is the result of the villagers deciding enough is enough, and that they are going to fight Arlong or die trying.. and she failed to stop them with reason. The emotions of the live action were good, but in the anime the emotions hit like an utter truck in comparison.
    There were some minor things that were changed I would have liked to see preserved in some form (we didn't see the story of the dog whose human passed away, or the silly story with Gaimon, there was no Jango and no sea cow and the Hachi we did doesn't even seem to have the same personality as the original) but all around it was a great run.
    I wonder if Pudgey intends on checking out the anime? 🙂

    They did the villagers dirty in the live action.
    In the anime, the villagers knew that Nami was trying to buy their freedom but didn't say anything because they didn't want Nami to feel obligated to carry out the goal - so that she could leave Arlong any time she wanted if she changed her mind.
    Also, in the anime, the villagers decided to go to war with Arlong when they learned that Arlong had Nami's money stolen; they were ready to die at that point.

    5:30 In the anime, this scene happened *before* Nami’s “help me” scene, and it happened very differently. Nami was the only member of the crew there(with the others nearby). It was right after Nezumi took Nami’s 100 million berry, and the villagers, knowing about Nami’s deal with Arlong for years, found out that Arlong cheated his way out of the deal and were angry for Nami’s sake. She tried desperately to stop them from attacking Arlong, but she failed and they headed to Arlong park anyway. This added to Nami’s desperation during the “help me” scene in a way that this version of the scene didn’t(because it happened *after* that in this version)

    3:04 Not just an arc, it’s *almost* an entire *Saga* that consists of *multiple* arcs. Six to be specific(though it only covers five of those six arcs). There’s the Romance Dawn arc, which is the first episode. Then the Orange Town arc, which is the second episode. Next is the Syrup Village arc, which is episodes 3 and 4. Then the Baratie arc, which is episodes 5 and 6. And finally, the Arlong arc, which is episodes 7 and 8. The arc that this season didn’t cover is the Loguetown arc(though, we did see Loguetown in the execution scene at the beginning)

This was during the writer's strike, so that was contingent on '12 to 18 months after the strike ends', which means we've probably got about a year-ish to wait now.

I think they are going to streamline certain/unneccessary plotlines, etc., so it won't be 1000+ episodes. It does make sense for new viewers who are intimated by the 1k+ episode time sink.
      One Piece (anime) is best enjoyed on a weekly basis, rather than trying to binge it as an adult. I've been watching it weekly since 09, and have rarely missed a week, which makes it easier to swallow in terms of time investment.

    I liked the wanted poster of Pudgey :D
    Regarding the downgrades there are in the Live action compared to the manga, I just have one, and it's a minor one: Usopp is a guy that lied a lot, so he is used to build stories. So at the final, when he is telling the stories to the villagers, I was expecting all the villagers to cheers for his story as soon as it ended, and Luffy - as childich as he is - would be happy to hear the story, without even noticing that Usopp stole luffy story and glory.
    But it's really minor. For everything else, the adaptation is a really good adaptation:
    - people without any knowledge of OP can understand (and that's the basis)
    - people with a lot of knowledge of OP will notice a LOT of details everywhere (there are video to show a lot of them - video full of SPOILER)
    - people with a lot of knowledge of OP don't even know how the story will be told. And although there are differences, key moments are respected, the behavior of the characters are the same.
    So yeah, really good job guys!

    I personally love the anime version of Luffy destroying the park. They end up in Nami's room, where Luffy notices all the charts surrounding a blood stained pen. He just sits there staring at it while Arlong monologs and then just starts breaking shit. The scene where Nami watches her desk fall through the air, realizing Luffy did that just for her, breaks her that someone finally did what she couldn't. Luffy destroys the place because it's Nami's personal prison, so it can't exist anymore.

    You're not wrong about there being a generational changing of the guard. One thing I don't think anyone else has mentioned yes is the guy with the green striped shirt that was standing next to Shanks was Usopp's dad. The fact Usopp just happened to join the crew of his father's captain's (Shanks) de facto (Luffy) son makes their connection even more special.

    Hardship, friendship, Naruto and Luffy have a lot on common. I'd say the main difference is that Naruto tends to do what he thinks it's right, some times kinda forcing his point of view onto others (he might be right and he always has good intentions, but still kinda forcing them nontless) while Luffy tends to do what he feels other people needs. Also, Naruto's dream of becoming Hokage is driven from a very basic need to be recogniced (that evolved to wanting to protect everyone) Luffys obsession with becoming the pirate king, well, it's complex and has so many layers xD too hard to explain and to many spoilers, but let's say it keeps taking shape and making sense with time. The person with the biggest dreams on the world^^

    Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece worked closely with the producers for this show and had a big hand in a lot of the casting. He personally met with Inaki Godoy who plays Luffy and gave his personal blessing to him that he was Luffy.
    They definitely did not insert a dub voiceline in the castoff ceremony, but I will say that, in my opinion, sometimes Inaki's voice when he really exclaims gets right up there in pitch with Colleen Clinkenbeard, the dub voice actor for Luffy and a massive amount of other anime superstars. You might recognize the voice as its the voice of teen Gohan(android/cell) in DBZ.
    Imagine if that Gohan talked like he was stoned all the time, and that is 99% of the Luffy dub voice.
