Some of the comments crack me up thinking the storage unit owner, had all contents in a boutique for sell or something. I did not think this was a huge amount of clothes or shoes for someone over the age 50 to own it's a normal amount of material items for a 1 person household. Most people were not minimalist 20 yrs ago and it seems as though the owner was still shopping in the 21st century so far nothing over 50 yrs old and shopped at discount retailers Stein Mart Marshalls TJMaxx ! You got a great deal on this unit and will make your money back plus some!

Today I was knitting and set up my phone to watch U-Tube, my only visual source of electronic entertainment at home. I punched in to watch the haul from a storage unit as I rent 2 myself. I image the box of paperwork on bankruptsy will put more of the human story to this find. And thanks for being respectful about a persons lost property and attachments.
I 💝 hearing your narration of this persons items uncovered. Your familys involvement in all the fun of opening suprise boxes. The fact you enjoy what your doing makes listening and seeing entertaining.
One day recently my daughter was driving with me and saw that I had attached a cute little lawn ornament like a hedge hog smiling happily to the dash board. She cringed and said "You're one of those people."! Yes I am. And that's why I enjoy the hunt and discovery in all aspects of life. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm.

You scored a shopaholic hoarder’s storage unit. Most brands were things that were mail-order catalog brands, or TV shopping. They kept everything so nice, but it’s no wonder there were bankruptcy papers. It was a female who sat at home and shopped and then admired all of her purchases, but couldn’t possibly wear them all. She probably lost her home first and packed everything so nicely with the belief she’d get it resolved and into a new place. Actually very sad, as we’re looking at the reason someone lost everything.

Yes, I go to consignment auctions in Southern Illinois. They are fun. One has homemade grub.. pies and such. They sell produce there at times, maybe even baked goods. One of the main places started charging a buyer's fee which I think is wrong, but they have tons of stuff and I filled my house with sale items. The people who run it are loaded and I dislike pouring more money into their coffers. Where do you go to the auctions?

  • @karenhansen166

Maybe when you are doing an unboxing of what you know is clothes you might want to have a clothing rail to hang them on with all the stuff on hangers. Hey they even gave you extra ones so use them. Also if you had the racks you could have the tagged and bagged separated from the untagged. Just a little suggestion.

Many things you will have to ask a pro collector about prices so that you can get your money worth. The barbies will sell for an awesome price. I do love that purse from the bath store you showed at the beginning of your film it is just right. Those Eddie Bower items are expensive. The clothes will get you a lot of money. I know that putting all items on display nice and neat, you will get a good profit because the dolls and the Bower clothes will get you a lot. Take care and blessings to you and your family.

Some people buy a lot but might still have a neat and organized home.. look how well packed everything was, neat and organized well. Hoarder sounds like someone who had a dirty home but hey, it was this persons choice and apparently could afford a lot, and this person was probably elderly and kept a lot through the years, you can’t judge someone just because they have a lot, at least everything was well taken care of and not dirty or smelly. Hi!
I am watching your storage unit films for the Vintage collection with all the new clothes with tags still on them. Everything was neatly packed with plastic bags on clothing. She had multiple pairs of shoes, lots of belts, 3 full sets of china.
You found blocks of wood. They are cedar that you have to hang in your closet to protect wool and leather items, the smaller pieces go in drawers with sweaters. They keep moths from eating holes in the fabric.
In the kitchen things, you pulled out a wood item that you didn't know what it was, it is a tamper used to push meat etc into the grinder you held upside down, and said you use it to make sausages. That is right, but is also used to grind meat of all kinds. Usually you would buy a cheaper cut of meat, then grind into into hamburger consistency. Often you have better tasting hamburger, Turkey or pork etc. You can grind lamb for casseroles. It was real handy for making relishes, too. But today we have better ways, like the food processor.
The strainer with the half piece of metal with the handle attached is a sifter that we used to shift flour that was lumpy and made it fine and smooth. Flour back before the 1980s was lumpy until machines that were built to mill flour fine , now you can make smoother gravies, cakes with no white spots in chocolate cake. There are so many things that have been made to make life easier in the kitchen.
The stemmed small crystal glasses are used for cocktails but a lot of people use the smallest one to serve sorbet or sherbet. So you were right to think that way.
I recognized the some of the Lands End and Eddie Baur outfits. I actually wore the exact style of sleeveless blouses, one in blue, one yellow and one white. Owned a couple denim jackets and the blue "denim" blouses are chambray shirts and I owned many over the years. Was very country oriented, lived in Texas for 30 years plus. Went there in 1974 in the USAF, married a Texan who was also a member of USAF.
I am not Vintage, ancient or antique I'm not 70 yet, I lived through the years that saw so many things new and improved things. We had 1 heavy black phone until 1975 now we have cellphones. We used waxed paper and foil to make our lunches and the last store leftovers. I was in high school before they perfected plastic wrap. The first frozen dinners were almost inedible!

A good test for the shoes before you try & sell them is to bend them almost in half at the sole to make sure the sole doesn’t crack in half. Soles of shoes in storage tend to dry rot and you can’t tell just by looking at them. This will save you some grief in returns if you’re going to resell them.

The glass you showed and said was a desert glass is actually a Champagne glass. They didn't state making Champagne flute glasses until early 70s. Look at wedding pictures from 40s & 50s and you'll see people make toasts with them. Your thinking of Sorbet bowls. The stem is shorter and they sit lower.

Except none of the shoes in the Etienne Aigner boxes, were Aigner. Many of the shoes were in different boxes. Also, I really hope you pack those shoes correctly when you ship them. I saw you shoving them in where the heel was rubbing the toe of the other shoe. Soles/heels go out, otherwise it can ruin the other shoe in the pair. Good Luck.

Coldwater Creek clothing is expensive clothing and so is J Jill clothing. They both have catalogs which I’ve gotten in the mail. The wooden sandals are Dr. Schols sandals from the 70’s and would be considered vintage now. I had a pair and loved them. I don’t know much about perfumes but I do know that Chanel perfume is worth $100’s of dollars per ounce if you have any of that. You keep showing clothing tags in the video but the camera is not focused so that I can read them. You’re definitely going to get your money back and then some for this storage unit. Can’t wait to see the next video.

The footstool with the light colored solid top and wooden legs is very old...the flat head screws are a good indicator of age. I once went to a thrift sale that had about four different old foot stools like that and one looked almost identical to yours. If I remember correctly, I paid $5 and sold it on Ruby Lane for $75. One footstool with wooden legs and a tapestry top I sold for over $100. Footstools are excellent sellers even today.

The little dish in with the perfume bottles is to set on your dresser with your perfumes. Some people call them a trinket bowl. People use to lay their regular rings or jewelry in when you change or do some activity that gets dirt or would damage it. Ie..making meatloaf or gardening. Put your ring in dish and after task done...You know where to find it to put your jewelry back on. There is usually a tray to sit all the perfumes and dish on it.

Whilst I am very happy for Wade and his family that they scored big on this unit I can’t help feeling sad for the previous owners. Looks as though they owned a store that went bankrupt so must have had some very stressful times in their lives. I often think about the previous owners when watching storage unit videos, especially if it looks as though it was owned by a veteran, and wonder what happened to them.

I concur, though let us not forget the nightmare that was 2008-2010 that took a lot of hard working people down - aka the"recession". Obviously there was collecting going on, for example the dolls. But the clothing was professional with the fact that everything was meticulously packed was what began to make my heart pain. This happened to us as well, and we have turned it back around. Again, congrats on your find, but every story has a back story and unfortunately many are very sad indeed.

I agree...it did not focus well when you held things up to be read...and that one really embroidered or embellished piece, you did not hold it up so I could not tell if it was a jacket, skirt, dress or what. Just if you would say, blouse, skirt, suit, jacket, etc, would help...and the brand names. I wanted to know, like your mom, what brands the cologne and perfume were. You did great though...really!!!
