Croatia. A tiny country of less than 4 million people. But a country which punches above its weight on the global stage on SO many levels. Having lived here for 20 years, I am constantly astounded about how much this small country has achieved in so many areas of life. Here are 10 things that - at least in my opinion - Croatia does better than any other country in the world.
Do you agree? Are there any other things? Answers in the comments, please.

It's wonderful to hear the beautiful experience of life in Croatia from a person who accepted it as a second homeland. Your kind words about ALL parts of this country as a reminder to us, blessed ones, how life here is still - beautiful! I hope you will come to Slavonia and Baranja again... Greetings from Osijek ❤️

Gospodine Bradbury, potaknuli ste me na razmišljanje. Godspeed.
I think it natural to take the place where you come from for granted. I am constantly amazed at Croatians who have visited Manchester and described beauty and places I had no idea existed. But it is nice to get so many messages from locals saying how they are looking at some things a little differently, especially Slavonia.
@@PaulBradbury Yes, Slavonia is Croatian shame. My father is from there. It is beautiful place, which is quite neglected. Like a old mother who is forgotten.

Paul, you did more for Croatian tourism than all of the "Turističke zajednice" combined!
So did my grandmother, and she has never been to Croatia
That's not true. Paul saw Croatia for the first time through a Tourist advertisement.. but what he's doing is a great job for all of us! Thank you Sir!🇭🇷
@@vanjaliscuk7518 Actually I was in Croatia the first time in 1988 when it was still Yugoslavia, before the Kingdom of Accidental Tourism had been formed.
Thank you Paul. I agree with you completely. Some people look at me as if I'm nuts for choosing to live in Zadar over N.Y where I was born and raised. Don't get me wrong, I love N.Y but living here and enjoying life just "feels right". Živila fjaka❤
haha. There is a growing returnee community in Zadar, with some very cool people. Lovely part of the world.
I am also from the US, moved to Zadar in 2021 to my partner’s birth city. Absolutely LOVED it! Unfortunately, the relationship ended and I had to move away, but Zadar has a very special place in my heart and I hope to move back in the near future 😊 I know there is a big expat community there!
i totally agree . croatia could be very nice place to live. not only adriatic part but also continetal part (i am from durdevac - podravina). but all of that could be true only if your family income is at least double than average in croatia, at least. but for many local people life in croatia is night mare because of low income and very expensive life. i woild like to add 11th best part in croatia - podravina hils (north bilogora for example) with private, small, vineyards with many small local vinehouse and numerous celebration day by day! we just finsh today celebration arount table with good food and lot of vine ! life is beautiful and nice! that is, for sure, unique life style - how local people survived centurys balancing low income and high life style producing and enjoying local vines and foods.
@@andreafodor249 My family is from Zadar & the Dalmatian coast. Yes, the south's natural beauty is incontestable but the socio-political climate can be ultra toxic. Government/business corruption, jealousy, & laziness are rampant; people will swindle you at the slightest opportunity but otherwise life is beautiful in Croatia! I personally never felt 'at home' so much in Croatia or Canada (where I now live) as in France; seems I have a French soul.
@@sadekdarko253 that's why people from other countries come. Many of them are retired and have more money. Many Croats then are envious of them and look at them as if they're money. It's an odd world.

Paul there is much more natural phenomena in croatia to visit.
The Ombla is a shortest river in Europe maybe World in Croatia, northeast of Dubrovnik. Its course is approximately 30 metres (98 feet) long.
Galešnjak (also called Island of Love) is located in the Pašman Canal of the Adriatic, between the islands of Pašman and the town of Turanj on mainland Croatia. It is one of the world's few naturally occurring heart-shaped islands.
Red Lake (Croatian: Crveno jezero) is a sinkhole containing a karst lake near the city of Imotski, Croatia. It is known for its numerous caves and remarkably high cliffs, reaching over 241 metres above normal water level and continuing below the water level. The total explored depth of this sinkhole is approximately 530 metres.

Hi Paul, great video and succinctly reminded us of SOME of the great things about Croatia. I have only lived here four years and still amazed at the wonders of this beautiful country. When I moved here people where shocked that I would choose to move from the UK, and I cited many of your points as being the reason. The economics and opportunities are a big challenge particularly when these are compared to say Germany or the UK. However, in doing so people should not overlook what is lost in adopting a more Western European culture, the work / life balance that is so apparent in Croatian Culture. People also complain about corruption, which personally I find amusing, particularly when compared to say the UK. I love the honesty of Croats. But, one thing Croatia does well is Wine, small family owner vineyards producing exceptional wines, which often beat more noble European wines.
Thanks. Yes people were shocked when i bought on Hvar in 2002. They thought i was moving to a war zone. And then they visited...
Well Hvar is very special, and I too have persuaded people to visit and all have fallen in love with this beautiful Country, some now having been more than once. Keep up the great work!
Croatia (or ex-yu countries) are not western europe. We consider ourselves as just ourselves. And don't like to be compared to anyone but ourselves. Especially the west. You lack so much integrity, the love to a mother and father, respect of family, loyalty, moral standards etc. I hope we never get westernized
Paul, excellent video, as usual.
It’s a pure joy to watch all your videos and your observations and remarks about Croatia and us, Croats are spot on.

Haha, but the lawsuits are such fun...
Love your videos! Nice to be reminded from time to time where we live and try to nurture those good things that make a difference in life.
Haha tx. A little positivity never killed anyone
Thank you Paul, sometimes we croats can be pesimistic and negative, so we need to hear this kind of stuff to realize that not all is so bad here 💪
haha, a little positivity never killed anyone
we are pesimistic and negative because for a large number of us lives are nothing but survival. I was born in Croatia and Paul knows it better than me. Yes, we have 1000 islands, but I've seen 7 or 8. Don't get me wrong, love that he is talking about my country the way he is, but we are not pesimistic for no reason.
@@AVAXII I've been to two Croatian islands, so I'm not pessimistic... I want to visit at least two or three more in this life, if not, there's still a lot of beauty in continental Croatia that's worth seeing.
@@joelsimunic7381 you didn't understand what I'm saying. It's not about the number of islands, or all the beauty in continental Croatia. Most people can't aford or don't have time to see it. If this country is so great, why are there a million less of us here than 30 years ago. A million.
@@AVAXII if you are talking about the displacement of Croatia, then you should not start from the period 30 years ago. 130 years ago, over a million Croats emigrated, mostly to North and South America, after the Second World War, 250,000 people were killed and many more escaped from communist terror, in 1950-60, over 750,000 emigrated due to poverty, mainly to Germany, Austria and Switzerland. and finally in the last 20 years 450,000 have moved out due to lack of work and open borders for our workforce. We do not emigrate any more than the average of developing countries. The perspective is huge, and it is up to us to work to make our generations better. It can already be said that life in Croatia is nicer and more pleasant than, for example, in Germany.
Wow, this was just amazing! Im glad you are having great time in Croatia, kind sir 🤗
It is great to be here
Thank you very much for this great video! I'm Croatian who lives in Germany. I love both countries. I have to share it with my friends and family. ❤️❤️❤️

All of this is so normal to me that I always took it for granted. It's so interesting to see someone from the outside world adopt our lifestyle and customs; or at least capture/explain them like this. It kind of opened my eyes a bit, honestly. I experience fjaka so often that I probably wouldn't survive in the world which doesn't acknowledge it, haha.
Fjaka is like malaria. Once it is in the system...
@@PaulBradbury Fjaka is the state of mind, natural to Dalmatians, that every yogi strives for.
Some religions and meditation experts spend decades to achieve what Dalmatians are born with. XD
It's nothing special, fjaka, it is simply too hot to work in the field at middle of the day in Dalmatia. Just like the Spaniards have to rest at the same time.
