How I installed aluminum micro mesh gutter guards and my opinion on the product.
I spent $1.70 per foot, which is a lot, but i decided to spend a little more and buy a quality gutter guard, rather then save a few bucks and have to mess around with guards that didn't work.

Great product. I installed nime a few years ago, and never had any maintenance on it at all. I used the tape, and it works very well, but if my getters were 40 feet off the ground, I'd use the screws too.

Using a ladder standoff greatly eases the job. And he's right, moving the ladder is the toughest part of the job. Cutting the guard with tin snips is also difficult.
Awesome video & great presentation on installing. I'm on the Oregon coast surrounded by pine trees and will be having a new roof in September. I think I'm gonna love these gutter guards. Fyi stay away from the foam stuff it's crap!
I'll give you credit man you're doing a great job but I would not be able to go up that high no way. 🤣🤣
i have similar kind of guards they went up in price some but have held up really well no dirt on front of gutter and I haven't had to clean it at all. mine was atlas gutter guard but looks exactly the same now costs like 215 for 96 feet on lowes online but amazon has a bunch of them with same design in different package sizes

Gutter guard re commands that the side that slides under the shingles should be bent to ac commodate the pitch of the roof.
Yes they do to avoid a lot of water run off because of the steep angle
I'm installing that same stuff. I think it is a good quality product. I think it is useless to install a coarse mesh that only works for leaves.
Wouldn’t have bent it. All that does is create a trough for debris to get stuck. The screws will flatten to gutter edge.

How long did it take to do the whole house? roughly how many linear ft of gutters?
There's a lot of factors:
Corners take time - measure, mark with sharpie, climb down ladder, cut, climb back up, screw in - each corner was like 15 minutes minimum
Straight sections are pretty fast - but still have to move the ladder - and on 20 foot high gutters thats a big deal.
I would say that i could install a 4 foot section in about 4 minutes
So maybe assume 1 foot per minute, plus 15 minutes per corner????
EDIT: So i think i did 100-200 feet in a few hours one day. Then i bought another 100-200 feet and did that on another day.

It looks good but I have a question: I have a pine tree with short fine needles so my question is, will it protect my gutters from that "disaster"?
Yes and No.
I have 4 White Pines at the back of the house. Most of the needles fall of, but many get stuck in the mesh.
None of the needles get through, but once per year i still have to get up there and brush them off, since the wind won't blow them away.
I'm still happy with these gutter guards, but just with the pine needles, it's a pain.
I have seen a solid metal type guard, with small slits in it, not sure of the name, but it might be better for the fine needles.
I bought this gutter guard and it did not come screws and it did not come with directions I bought 275 ft of this stuff and all I got was find something on CZcams to figure out how to install this

It's not a problem.
But yes, if you look closely you can see the bottom shingle is slanted up a bit.
How does the thin mesh hold up to a heavy snow/ice storm sliding down the shingle slamming into it? Will it collapse?
It's pretty strong. Stronger then the mesh on a window. Definitely won't collapse.
Although i did have some minor issues where the pine needles sat on the mesh in the fall, then when it snowed it also sat on there, then melted and froze. So i had a layer of frozen ice and pine needles over the mesh. Then icicles started forming.

Did you slide under the shingle only or both the shingle and vapor barrier?
Can't remember exactly. At 1:21 it shows how you should install it. I think i did like Diagram A & F where it shows it just under the shingle, not the vapor barrier.
Ya after watching the video again, just under the shingles.
You don't disturb the vapor barrier so you would insert under the shingles only.
@@knockitstiff Right...i guess. If i remember there's like 2 layers of shingles then the plastic edging. I just lifted up the 2 layers of shingles and slid in the guard. It just allows the water to smoothly flow over the shingles onto the guard.
Do you need to use the drill bit to put a pilot hole before you put the screw in?

My gutters that I installed myself and are long runs go from right under shingles to an inch or 2 under shingles. And 4” gutters. I want to use this, but don’t want to try to slide under gutters.
How bad is it to bend it so it will lay flat on the gutter, regardless how low under shingles the gutters are?

I had to bend all of mine to get the lip to lay flat on the edge of the gutter. They aren't too bad to bend, kind of like heavy window screen.
@@DaveWirth Bend all to get the FRONT or BACK lip to lay flat? The bending part isn't an issue - I've done a few. but what I am looking to do is bend the back 180 deg so the guard is the same front to back as the gutter (4"). So the screen is flat on the gutter. They talk about wanting the screen sloped... Think flat will be an issue? I gotta get the garden hose and test : )
@@mrshnatter9959 Not sure about how you are bending. But you don't want it flat. I've had pine needles that just sit on the mesh screen. You want some slope so leaves and things will fall off.

Do you still like it, now that it has been awhile?
Yes. I only did the back half of the house, 100 feet, where the trees are. Those have been great, no issues. Although the pine needles do accumulate on the gutter guards, they don't really blow off. But the water still can drain to the gutters and zero clogs.
However on the front of the house where i didn't put the guards i've had to go up there once or twice a year because there's a clog of leaves and needles in the downspout. So in the future i might be doing the front of the house too.
Happy i used the more expensive stuff with the finer mesh. Ya it hurts having to pay $170 for 100 feet, but it works.

I have noticed that the white pine needles accumulate on the roof and gutter. But the water still drains into the gutter and keeps everything out.
@@DaveWirth Your roof looks fairly steep. Mine is too at a 12/12 pitch which is a 45 degree slope. The installation documentation recommends the gutter guard be installed between 5-25 degree slope on steep roofs to prevent runoff in heavy rain. This would require bending the back edge and sliding it under the shingle or fastening the back edge to the fascia at the proper angle. Did you explore this for your project? What is the pitch of your roof? Have you observed any runoff during a downpour?
@@knockitstiff Not sure of the pitch of the roof, but 45 degrees seems about right. I can barley keep from sliding down when i'm on the face of it. I didn't look into attaching it to the fascia. Just sliding it under the shingles seemed to be adequate and a lot faster. I haven't had any issues with runoff that i know of. Even on the back side of the house, the white pine needles do collect on the gutter guards, and eve there the water doesn't runoff and the system works fine.
The others will stay clean

Holy hell has inflation caused this product to go up.
Costco had a deal a while back for like 100 feet for around $150. Now i think it's back up to $200 (so $2 per ft)

Go ahead buddy, jam it under your shingles in the cold weather, and see how the wind treats those shingles later. You just voided your shingle warranty.
That's exactly how the manufacture tells you to install them. Pulling 1.5" of shingle back isn't going to harm anything.
