    That's a brilliant battery mod. The only thing holding this plane back after rehinging the surfaces is the battery tray. It doesn't matter how tame you fly, this tray eventually fails. Seen it twice now. Thanks for the awesome idea!

      Thanks man, and you are welcome buddy! I saw your video and knew you needed to see ours. Simple, easy mod that works. I'm that weird guy that flies his 3D/XA planes like 3D/XA planes and his scale planes scale...so with my lighter batteries and a scale Pitta S2-B routine it took a while to fail. You 3D/XA everything...lol... and use a heavier pack...I'm surprised your tray lasted as long as it did! Happy Flying man!

    Look at that thing go! It looks so realistic especially with you on the sticks you would think it's the real thing. Your reviews are simply the best on CZcams, I don't buy a plane unless you have reviewed it and given it a thumbs up. That way I know what I'm getting into and know what to fix before taking it airborne. I've been flying for 15 years now and it never gets old. Thanks for everything you do.

    I viewed 5 different fms pitts reviews and this one is by far the best by a long shot. The amount of detail you put into these videos and the piloting is absolutely outstanding. It is also rare to have a pilot relay his concerns with the aircraft which is very nice considering plenty of pilots show bias. I’m not gonna lie there is serious chance this is the best fms pitts review out there!!!! Also CONGRATS ON 200 SUBSCRIBERS!!!!!!

    This is the best and most informative review of the FMS 1400 Pitts V2 of all that I have seen. I would highly recommend this video to any owner of this model. That perfect landing on a hardtop surface, with what sounded like the stock wheels, was truly an epic lesson in throttle and rudder management. Thank you for all of your contributions. 👍

    I just won one of these in a raffle at an event. I had low expectations on how it would fly. Wow, was I mistaken. This bird is amazing. I'm looking forward to flying it again after your recommended modifications. Absolutely great review.

    I maidened my Pitts today. I ditched the reflex gyro and went with an AR630, Zoar 16X8, Metal gear servos, stock esc, battery mod (used a foam block). No trim needed 10mph wind and flew like a dream with 4000 mah 6S with timer set to 7 minutes. CG was perfect. Very happy with this plane.

    Hi Adam.
    i noted your reference to throttle to rudder mixing at high throttle @6.45min. A good call. I don't own this craft yet, but I've checked several of my aerobatic craft, they all have the characteristic of left yaw on vertical climb. I've added a custom curve to OpenTX, craft variation range is 5% to 10%.
    An aerodynamisyst says this correction should be done with motor thrust offset, but that's a bit crude, whereas the throttle to rudder mix i see as fine tuning.
    One beneficial side effects is the the climb segment of a loop requires less yaw correction!

      Hey Dave! The mix for me was to correct the tendency to yaw at different throttle settings in straight and level flight. I just compensate in vertical climbs as all planes (propeller driven, clockwise rotation) yaw left in the vertical. I just use the rudder and see these corrections as part of the required maneuver inputs. You have to compensate the same way in a full scale aerobatic plane. My reason for the mix was to simply keep the rudder in trim at all throttle settings and speeds. I think its only a 3% mix. It does not change the rudder input needs during times of increased torque, P factor, gyroscopic precession, or spiraling slip stream. During take off and in situations where the power is high but the speed is bleeding off rapidly or low (like loops, verticals) right rudder inputs are still required to keep the plane on line. I would think a mix big enough to compensate for these things would adversely affect the rudder trim in level flight. I don't mind the inputs needed for acro...I just wanted the plane to stay in trim no matter my speed. The stock thrust angle is probably fine, but I added power that the manufacturer didn't account for when they set it. Also you can only go so far with right thrust angles and you run in to the same issues...the plane will only track true at certain throttle settings. The standard is usually 2 or 3 degrees.

      Eight months later…i found myself coming back to this video just to watch the flight again. Who makes rewatchable rc videos?? Awesome work.
      Also if pilots can all land like that, they wont ever have problems with the wheel attachment points on this plane. (Even though on this one they are more poorly engineered than most.)

    I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised to receive your response! I appreciate you taking the time to write! I have recently watched your rendition of flight with a Flightline “Spit”
    You and I both agree about it being one of the most recognizable and iconic designs of ALL time! I think Mr Mitchell was an artist “first” and then an engineer! If it looks right it’ll fly right!
    Short backstory…. I was privileged enough to spent six years assisting in the build a full scale MKIX (N1940K) replica! My job was to construct the wing and tail surfaces which were made from spruce and A/C ply.

That will be an interesting perspective if you plan to put it in the scale cockpit position...I've flown in a Christen Eagle II (which has the same layout as a Pitts) and man you can't see much forward...really long nose. The head tracking will help a lot...we had to slip all the way down to the threshold of the runway to keep it in sight. Thanks again man for watching our video and I'm really glad you liked it!!

      @@ModelAV8RChannel Ha ha - FMS has already found my wallet! Watching YT reviews is not healthy to my wallet. My buddy and me saw the MerryBoozer/RCInformer formation flight of the FMS F7F TigerCat 1700m - we bough a pair. I am confident enough t take off and fly the TigerCat, but not landing gently on the mains every time with flaps - Until then my hangar was populated with HobbyKing models, all tail draggers.
      Deciding I needed to gain such experience, I bought my 2nd FMS plane - T28 Trojan 1400mm, which flies superbly, especially when woken up with 5S. But the nose wheel is weak, weak enough to fold on take off! New e-retract fitted over winter. As soon as the weather stabilises, the grass strip dries out and firms up, I'll be practising the landings ready for tackling the TigerCat.
      Oh, I acquired another upmarket plane over winter - SebArt Katana 1440mm - now that is an expensive plane.
      Hence my statement that the FMS Pitts V2 is a Great-Bang-for-Buck model that also happens to fly amazingly well judging by reviews, especially yours. Noted re the prop size increase.

      Lol...I have totally done that. My buddy Carl and I bought Flightline 1.6 Corsairs and did them as two planes from the same squadron. The Tigercat is a great flying plane, as is the T-28. Takes a bit of power with elevator to flare the Tigercat to a smooth touchdown on the mains...you'll get it. Definitely helps to make sure the motors are calibrated together and synced up. If they aren't it does funky stuff with blips of power on landing. Man the SebArt is nice and they fly well. I have a hangar full of Extreme Flight planes. From 48" to 85". Treat yourself to one of those one day...they are awesome. You're going to love the Pitts...and you are right...it is a lot of bang for the buck.

    Good afternoon from sunny and hot Arizona, Adam
    I rarely subscribe to any channels on CZcams but I ran across yours and found it to be very transparent and factual! I own the FMS V2 but have not had a chance to fly it yet. I’ve been in this hobby for way too many years, my experience has been eclectic at best but I enjoy scale warbirds, antiques, and racing. I took a hiatus from the hobby for about ten years and was surprised at the instant airplanes that are sold these days.
    It sure is different!
    I respect your candor and your fidelity to not only take a scale aircraft and make a huge effort to fly it to look scale, but do the necessary mods to improve the fly-abilty! To strive for realism. Anyone can make a model fly but it takes a magician sometimes to give the appearance of full scale flight characteristics. My apologies for being wordy. Kudos my friend and I hope to hear back from you someday and possibly meet if the chance arises.

      Many genres of flying appeal to me, but I absolutely love scale flying...realistic flying. I've heard "scale" used a lot and what I see isn't always my idea of realistic. I want it to look like you're watching the genuine article. We have a newer series of episodes called "Model AV8R Scale Flights" in which my mission is to emulate the real aircraft in question as closely as possible from taxi out to taxi in. There is only one video in that series so far but there will be many more coming. Our first was with my favorite warbird...a Spitfire. Please check that one out and give us your thoughts...I think, and hope you like it. I give a back story and a link to a video of a full scale Spitfire being flown the way I intend to fly the model. I'd love to hear your impressions and any suggestions for the series you may have.

      You are welcome...always glad to help if I can. BTW...you can absolutely use a gas/nitro prop on electric applications as long as the amp draw is within the tolerances of the ESC/motor. On the Pitts the 16 x 8 is a pretty good jump up, and within the limits enough for me to be confident recommending it. I haven't tested a gas prop, so I'm not sure if it would bring the amps up beyond the limits or not.
      Interestingly enough...from the testing I've done on other planes the gas props make less watts for more amp draw as the motors can spin the E props faster. Sometimes though you can get a gas prop that looks more scale for a particular application and in that mission the slight loss of thrust is a non factor.

    Just ordered one of these. Great information to have. I love to do full scale aerobatics as well. Finally, someone who knows how to fly without the bank and jerk maneuvers. I had a GP Pitts with a Saito 270 glow and it had mucho power. Got to be to much to haul around. So this will be a great change wihout sacrificing the Pitts feeling. Thanks again.

    Good information from your great videos.
    When I inverted from a 45 degree rise, I thought that the motion that came up was due to an abnormality in my plane or the intervention of the gyro.
    It is a common feature of airplanes with CG adjustments according to the instructions in the manual.
    I didn't like that part, so I disposed of the plane and bought a new plane to try again.
    I got good information from your video and gave me a reason to try again.

One thing...if you are using a gyro...sometimes if the gains are set high or the gyro is in a "heading hold" mode the gyro will try and hold the plane on line in 45 deg inverted up or horizontal tests. It is always a good idea if possible to turn the gyro off any time you are doing a flying balance test. Whenever I help someone with a gyro...my preference when possible is to set the air frame up first with the gyro off...set the throws, the expo, the balance, and get it tuned and trimmed to fly well on its own first. Then you can bring in the gyro and at that point you'll know if the gyro is having an affect you don't like, and you can adjust the gains up or down accordingly. You always have two choices with a gyro - choice one is you can let the gyro somewhat "fix" an un-tuned air frame (I say fix because you really don't know what effect its having because you don't know what the air frame will do with out it) or choice two - tune the air frame well on its own, and refine that tune with the gyro. Choice two will ALWAYS render a better flying airplane. Happy flying!

    I’ve had my FMS Pitts S2B since October 15. I also felt it was underpowered and changed the prop to an APC 16x8E. I got the same power/current readings before and after as you. It now has the vertical performance I expected and also seems to fly faster than before. It also has the worst top rudder to pitch coupling I’ve ever seen. It does require some forward stick to fly level inverted, so it doesn’t feel tail heavy. It also holds a 45 degree inverted climb, but it does take at least 3/4ths of a turn to come out of a spin. I figured it was due to the mass of the wings and the fairly short tail. I think some of the pitching toward the belly in knife edge is caused by the landing gear fairings. It didn’t take long for one of the battery tray latches to break. I’ll be adding your mod to the hatch before the next flight. I’d also like to fix the noisy wheels. I’ll also add the THR>RUD trim as it does pull to the left. The ground handling is excellent for a Pitts biplane.
    You did a very good job on this video. I’m not sure I’ve run across your channel before. I’ll subscribe and check out some others.

      @@allensecurity2030 I bought my wife (and myself) a Cricut for Christmas, but neither one of us has tried to cut anything on it yet. My Pitts still has the stock wheels. We have a paved runway, but I only use it for takeoffs. I always land in the grass, and occasionally take off from it. One of our club members puts heatshrink tubing on the axles of his planes and drills the hubs to make them fit over the heatshrink.

    Even if you put the battery all the way back on the tray the plane is still nose heavy. Had to extend tray with balsa wood to give me almost two inches more towards the rear so it could balance properly. Love the video the best out there !

Then Horizion said basically, oh you fixed it, we aren't gonna do anything for you. My last Horizon product. Now if I want a giant scale plane, I'm building a kit.

      Yeah pretty much standard with any arf is to add glue to the firewall, battery tray, and gear mount...especially if you're going gas/nitro. Many are not glued well enough at the factory. I've added triangle stock for reinforcement on some as well. That said I think Seagull makes H9 stuff (or did) and they are usually pretty good. I have several H9 planes and all are really nice.

My wife Heidi is the camera crew...she is getting really good at this! I love the way my Pitts flies with that set up, but if you end up staying with the stock prop see what it does and feel it out before you put in the throttle to rudder mix.       Thank you Jeff! Yeah man the trays like that worked when they first came out but they were in planes that used much lighter batteries. On a 6s plane...especially one that will be exposed to tumbles, negative G, etc. the little clips don't last long.

    Well done AV8R. As you have read from the comments, you and, I believe Heidi? are doing a great job producing these videos. As I've said before, great info and data, especially this one. I never really cared for the Pitts S1S, but after seeing the S2B (FMS V1, Blue edition KingCraft) I kinda got over the fact that the side veiw looks like a pot belly pig :). Because of the built quality, finish and size I really do want one of these V2. I only wish it was dark blue/white like the KingCraft. Your data will come in handy when I can get one. I don't think, at the time, Curtis Pitts knew what he had built. I saw a picture of the first one, I think it was white!! AirHammer out!!

      Thanks very much for watching! Glad you liked it and found it helpful. It is just a 1"x1" balsa piece...I think I cut it 2 1/2 inches long. The spacing was trial and error based on my batteries and the position. I tacked it down with a tiny drop of CA, test fit, pulled it off, and did it again until I had it perfect. Then, I marked it and permanently glued it.

    great video, my battery tray clip broke also. The glue for the balsa block and triangle supports to keep battery from sliding back was a strange color what did you use?

      Thanks for watching! We used 6 min epoxy. EPO foam usually has an slightly oily residue on the bare foam on the unpainted inside of the plane...this is to make it separate from the mold. So anytime you glue or tape anything on the inside of a foam model be sure and wipe the area you plan to glue with alcohol (only EPO) and lightly sand the area before you glue to insure a good bond.

    So... The FMS Pitts 1400 has a Hobbywing 50A ESC and a 4258-KV460 motor... I found someone who had upgraded their's with a 4258-KV550 motor and an 80 amp esc to give it some more pep... However I was unable find any feedback on the setup or a video showing it... But the need for speed part of me has got me thinkin' hard... If it was as fast as the e-flite 850mm pitts it would be a total blast. I have an esc and the motor is $63, not too bad... Hmm... Your thoughts? : )

      I haven't upgraded mine, but I bet some of the guys in the RC Groups thread on this one have. I'm fine with just changing the prop, but I fly it scale. Nothing wrong with more punch if you want it!

    Your review of the FMS Pitts 1400 mm v 2 has more relevant info then all the others combined. I will be putting mine together tomorrow. When you did the pilot change did you put it in through the bottom or remove the canopy from the frame. Again thanks for a great video.

    I have 6s 5000. I put weight in the tail and have the battery half in the tray the only thing I don't care for is knife edge and it needs way to much mix for knife edge it screws up take off so I am just flying without mix

      Yeah the ones they've shipped in the last year have ballast in the nose, and they may have overcompensated a bit. When I got mine they were tail heavy.

      Yep. You are correct...left rudder mix. One thing to be aware of...my plane is an earlier production run model. I think FMS has now added ballast to the ones that ship today so check your balance before you add ballast. It may be fine out of the box.
      One more thing - If you are using a stabilized RX, the yaw gain on your gyro may correct for the rudder trim issue and you won't need a mix.

      Hey Thomas thanks for watching and the kind words! We did use ballast. I'm flying it on 3700 and 4000mah packs as we have a ton of them. Even with a 5000 we still would have needed some ballast. There are channels on both sides just past where the battery tray sits. We glued our ballast in those channels...gets it forward of the battery position. Can't remember now how much it took...something like 6oz. give or take. You'll love the Pitts...great flyer. We also recently changed all the tires to Du Bro foam ones...rolls very quiet now. It was noisy as all get out! Happy flying!

    Hi Adam, you just had to do this video, and now I just have to go and get one....but before I do a few questions. Do you know how it functions with grass ops ?? Also will it still be ok to go up a pitch or two because you know I have to have a three blade prop on it....not looking for scale or mega fast like the idea of neutral inverted, would 6s 5000 be ok with it ??...cheers Martyn

      Martyn it is an awesome plane. It does need a good set up though. You can fly with a 5000 for sure. You may still need a little ballast to get it to our CG...and you want to do that. Trust me on that one...lol. Also make sure you do the hatch mod to keep that battery tray in place. That is crucial. It does well off grass but to be fair the two places I flew it off grass were pretty well manicured. It three point lands very well and I'd land it that way off of grass. I don't know about thick stuff. It is a big plane though. The three blade should be fine...I did the math and to go from my 16x8 you need a 15x10 three blade ideally, but because the Master Airscrew three blade is a little heavier than my Xoar I'd probably go with a 15x9 three blade just to be extra safe...unless you have a watt meter to test and make sure. The stock motor can handle 70 amps, but the ESC 50 amps. On the ground holding the plane back if it is pulling 54 amps or less on a quick run up you're good. It unloads in the air about 9 amps which will keep you well in the safe range for the ESC. Given what you want to do with it the 15x9 should be plenty of power though. Stay well buddy!

    I just watched this video again, Decided finally to pull the trigger on this one, I am going to replace esc with a Avain to get my telemetry to my AR6610T with GPS just for the heck of it since i have it left over from a plane i sold. Going to try out the Zoar 16x8 Prop.
    how did you go about getting the pilot out? this canopy from what I see online ( Don't have the plane yet) Doesn't seem to have a access like some models do..
    Also, You have some flights on yours any issues with the non metal gear servos or the stock rods for the 2 ailerons seems some having issues the pins breaking off.

      Hey Chris! Great to hear from you. I cut the pilot out from underneath, then just glued the piece back. I made sure to cut the piece big enough for my new pilot. Also had to cut a lot of the new pilot away. I think I used the pilot from a Flex RV8...the big foam one. I have around 175 flights on it flying scale Pitts S2B aerobatics...no issues with the servos, linkage, or hinges. The guys that are forcing extreme amounts of throw to force the plane into 3D/XA are having trouble with all that, but to be fair that isn't what it was outfitted for. That said, with some mods and upgrades its nice to know it can do it if you want.

      Hey Ken...thanks for watching and the kind words. I don't think poly would add too much weight, and it would look great! I have several planes I've sprayed with poly. The prop is a factory painted beechwood Xoar 16 x 8E . They are hard to find painted, but the regular beechwood 16 x 8E will work fine and are more common.

    Have know a pitte v1 FMS and asking me to do the same by mine. My bec have 85 amp think and battery pack have to go all the way to the front, but there is no Strips for fixing. Whit the block of balsa it will be safe I think. Is the prop vrom v1 not so good? What is better for? Thank You for answering and all the best from Swiss, Philippe

      Hey my friend! Thanks for watching! The V1 had a 3 blade prop I think, and a different motor. Unfortunately I have not tested a V1. I would fly it first and see what you think. It may be fine. You could always buy the power system from a V2 and put it in your plane if you think it needs more power. Hope this helps, and happy flying!

    Great video very helpful , over here in the UK we struggle to get xoar propellers I can get a APC 16 x 8 thin electric propeller would this be ok to use on the Pitt’s ?

The APC e propellers usually pull a few more amps than the Xoars, so if you have a watt meter to check it first that would be what I'd do to see if it will work...really anytime you go up in prop size. You can get watt meters everywhere, and in my opinion that is one of the must have tools for modelers that fly electric. You could also try Justmodelprops.com. They are in Florida in the US, but I think they may ship overseas. They carry more Xoars than any place I know of. I've bought them from Amazon and Extreme Flight as well. Hope this helps!

    When I took my motor out, I found washers under the motor mount, on the left-hand side, giving the plane a little extra rightward thrust angle. I wonder if removing those washers would negate the need for the motor to rudder mix?

    I'm intrigued by your throws which differ a lot from those given in the manual: ailerons 11mm (manual 20mm), elevator 57mm up/40mm down (manual 20mm), rudder 55mm (manual 24mm). I get the aileron as it is certainly too fast roll rate for scale at 20mm. But the elevator, can you explain your theory for increasing the throw so much? I'd like to try your throws but would like a little explanation first. No need to explain the expo, I get that. I'd also like to try the prop mod if I could find a 16x8 prop! Many thanks from the UK! Great video btw, def the best of all the vids out there on this superb plane. Grahame

      Hey Grahame! Thank you for watching my friend and we really appreciate the kind words. On the prop look up "Just Model Props". They are based here in the States, but they may ship across the pond. They have all the Xoar props.
      So Grahame the short answer on the elevator throw is it makes doing scale tumbling maneuvers like a Lomcovak possible. The increased rudder throw helps as well. They both also help to extend a tail slide.
      The more detailed answer is I always have more rudder and elevator than most. That can help with many things. With the elevator I like to have what it takes to be able to get the plane to critical angle of attack and actually stall it. That is the amount I like to have unless I need more for maneuver purposes. When you have that much throw you can get the plane slower, land it in a three point position if you chose, taxi easier on grass, and actually stall it which helps with some maneuvers. Quite a few manuals don't have enough throw for this...I've seen many planes (especially Warbirds) where the pilot thinks "man this thing has a docile stall", but what is really happening is he is simply in a steep rate of decent and the wing isn't really stalled. Then they always wheel land them. In both instances they think they are stalled because they run out of elevator. I crank in more elevator throw with the same plane, actually stall it, and low and behold it drops a wing.
      There's nothing wrong with dialing the normal stall out of a plane with less elevator if that is what a pilot wants to do. For my personal preference I like more elevator and rudder and that makes a multitude of things I do feel right for me. I have a lot of time flying 3D planes and other higher performance planes, and I don't use rates...so I use enough expo for it to be just the right amount of responsive for my tastes depending on the plane type and my mission.
      Set up is a very personal thing and varies greatly amongst pilots. I love the way my Pitts performs with my set up, but it may or may not be the perfect set up for someone else.
      Sorry for the long answer Grahame, but you asked my theory and I'm notoriously bad about over explaining...I was a firearms instructor at one time - you have to make SURE they understand...Lol. Anyway my friend I hope I answered your question and I hope it helps!

      @@ModelAV8RChannel Many thanks for your detailed answer, all your theory and explanation makes total sense, just like your video does re prop and current draw, etc. Please don't apologise for it being a long reply, that's good in my book. I fly 3D too so I fully understand your reasoning and my 3D models have massive control throws of course. Obviously the Pitts is NOT a 3D plane but a knowledge of 3D certainly helps to understand your increased throws and stall explanation. I also totally 'get' your reduced aileron throws compared to the manual. I fly with ailerons on low rate which I have set up close to your 11mm. Any more than this is too fast a roll rate for scale - and this is a scale model at the end of the day. I am still familiarising myself with the Pitts but when I was setting up the throws (currently as per the manual) I must admit I was tempted to increase the elevator throws, I suspect I will do that for sure. I did increase the rudder to max though (I always like to have max rudder on all my planes). Like you, I appreciate the need for expo (I'm used to that with 3D models, some of which have 60 or even 70%). Thanks again. PS I did the mod to ensure the battery tray stays put! That one's a no brainer.

      Awesome Grahame...so you totally get it. It seems as if you may be one of the rare guys like me that is a 3D pilot, loves 3D planes, but likes to actually fly a scale plane realistically from time to time. I fly with other 3D pilots and almost all of them just fly 3D, and if they occasionally throw in a non 3D plane they set it up and fly it as if it was. Nothing wrong with that at all...I brake from scale and sling a scale plane around like a banshee sometimes too. I have to say though I get as much enjoyment...and sometimes challenge...flying a scale plane and making it look as close as I can to its full scale counterpart. I'm sure you'll end up with more elevator throw on the Pitts, and that hatch mod is a life saver. I've saved a lot of ill flying planes, but man when that battery ended up in the back of my Pitts...one of my best ever. I don't want to do it again though!!

      @@ModelAV8RChannel Thanks. Actually Scale is my first love - I fly large WW1 biplanes, Tiger Moths, WW2 warbirds (both of these balsa with IC 4-stroke glow). I love 3D too and I find being able to do some 3D manoeuvres actually helps my scale flying too. I also fly aerobatic (Precision Aerobatics XR52, Addiction X, Sebart Mythos etc). The Pitts is a bit of an (enjoyable) oddball for me, being a mixture of scale and aerobatic. Earl days with the model but I know I'm going to love getting to know it and learning how to fly it well. Thanks for all your comments. I love your vid on the Pitts, yours is the only one to go into such detail, all of it useful.

      Grahame I'm really glad our video helped...nice to hear you appreciate the longer video format. I can't get every detail I want covered in a 5 minute episode! We are cut from the same cloth...I would say scale is my favorite genre with WWI and general aviation being at the top of the list. Of course I love the WWII planes as well as more modern warbirds. I also have two glow planes and they both have proper 4 strokes! A 1/4 Balsa USA J-3 with a Saito 150 and a old Sig kadet Mk1 with a Saito 56. I agree 3D flying helps with everything. Being comfortable and versed in rudder and throttle management...managing energy, makes for a much better scale pilot. I love most things with wings. My versatility and ability to present many different types well, and the fact that I pass the hobby on to as many other pilots as possible are the two things I'm most proud of as a pilot personally. I enjoyed learning a bit more about you Grahame, you're my kind of fella.

    Thanks for the video Adam, you've been great help on getting my plane setup properly. Can you provide me with the actual model information for the zoar prop you're suggesting with stock motor & ESC? I found the company but so many different models of props. I do love the battery lock you made to keep it in place. Also, I currently fly it with spektrums 6s5000 but was wondering what would the lowest battery size be for like a 6min flight at most? I'd like to go lighter if possible. My goal is to keep the plane as original to the flight model of the real one. Thanks again.

    Hi Adam happy new year. I got the right prop sorted thanks. Got question I've never used mix before and a mate at my club will show me throttle to rudder mix . My question is can set radio mix at half to full throttle for trinn or did you mean it's set at that trim at any speed the plane doing. Sorry if dum question still learning.
    Its my third year flying at club and flying well going to have best year this summer I got flightline spitfire 1600mm fms p47 1400mm and 3 meter albertross glider to fly this year and of course get pitts 15th February going to be busy just got wait for UK weather🙄

      Happy new year Lee! Buddy I'm with you...looking forward to 2022 and some good flying! Like you the wx here kinda sucks right now...rainy and windy. I've had the better part of 2 weeks off...been out once to fly. Sounds like you have some nice machines ready for this year...I own the 1600 Spitfire...just awesome! Your question is not dumb at all man...mixes can be really confusing. The mix works the whole time...feeding in rudder as throttle is advanced from 0 to100%. The thing is it is only a 3% mix out of 100% available...so very minute. Equivalent to a click or two of trim. So basically you have to get to half throttle before it has moved enough to make a difference, and it only reaches full deflection of the 3% at full throttle. I just leave it active all the time...it doesn't adversely affect anything . Happy flying my friend! Let us know how your 2022 flying is going!

      Hey Tom. Man thank you so much! The Pitts is a great plane. Tom I'd fly yours first. I think based on some reports to achieve our cg that FMS may have recognized the need for ballast up front to get the cg right and added it in production on later runs. Many have told me recently they got the cg without having to add any ballast.

    I'll do that hatch mod. Looks like a plane saver for sure. I bought a 15x10 as I felt it needed more speed to get it scale, even if it was at the risk of less acceleration. I haven't fitted it yet. Did you try a 15x10 or should I just go 16x8 like you?

      Thanks very much for watching! I was ok with the speed...I didn't think it had enough vertical for scale acro. I didn't test a 15 x 10. I like the 16 x 8 Xoar...it did pick up speed, and the vertical is now where it should be for scale S2-B aerobatics. I would think the amps would be acceptable with a 15 x 10...they should be, but as always I'd test it with a watt meter to be sure. In a little over a week from now we will be releasing a very detailed episode all about watt meters...try to catch that one if you can...loads of good info. Thanks again for watching an commenting!       Glad to help Brian! (caught me sitting at the computer this time!) I don't think the CG will change much if you position the back of the batteries in the same place on the tray. Might be ever so slightly more nose heavy with the 5000, but probably won't adversely affect performance if scale acro is what you're looking for. I use the Pulse 3700's and HRB 4000's because they weigh the same and I have a bunch of them.

      Hey Ken, no just a regular rx. I don't typically use gyros although I have one plane with AS3X. The stabilization is getting better for sure, but I prefer to just set an air frame up well. Nothing at all wrong with using them just not my preference.

    Hi Adam ive had some nice days flying 3mph in sun. Got new plàne Multiplex Extra 300 small but it do job decided to learn more acrobatics so start learning 2020 basic IMAC. Thinking be nice to do with pitts once got use to the maneuvers. I see you know stuff hovering on your clip 😊 sorry got another question for pitts Ive got 2x light weight Vant 6s 6000 45c for pitts will it be fine to go stright middle of tray for CG and course check weight at front to balance. The prop had get from states and pitts coming end next month. I got FMS P47 2 day's ago it's beast can't wait for spring. Could you film when doing show flying be nice to see cheers

      Hello Lee! Thank you for watching! Learning aerobatics is a fun journey...you'll enjoy it! Those batteries will work, but they will be heavy. I'm not sure if the bigger battery alone will get the CG at 125...you'll have to check it to be sure. We tested 5000's and they didn't. With a battery that heavy the tabs on the battery tray will fail much sooner so I would definitely do the hatch mod to hold the tray in place...if a battery that heavy slides to the rear of the plane it may not be flyable enough to get down in one piece. You also may want to check the amps with that prop on a 6000 with a watt meter. It will pull a bit more amps with the bigger battery...probably not enough to be a issue, but best to check it. The FMS P-47 is a great flyer. Happy flying my friend!

      Hello to you! Thanks for watching! Man...thats a great question. They are really different. I love the Pitts in general and have been a fan of them since I was a kid. The FMS Pitts is one of my favorite foamies, and I'd keep it hands down over the RV7 all day long. That however has a lot to do with me personally. It would depend on your mission I guess. Obvious differences aside...just talking flying characteristics...the RV7 is more capable aerobatic wise. The Pitts does what a full scale Pitts S2-B will do very well (That's what I like do with it), and it is more capable than its full scale counterpart, but not by much. The RV7 can do what a full scale RV7 can and venture in to areas no real RV could ever go. Some very legit 3D/XA is possible with it. Both are smooth, predictable, honest air frames when set up well. The Pitts is a little harder to tune. Mind you I fly both on regular sport Rx's..so it says a lot that they both can be tuned to fly great without any stabilization.     I am thinking of either the FMS 1400mm with Reflex or the E-Flite 850mm with SAFE for simply scale flying. What are your thoughts. Around A$100 difference in the price. Well explained-well flown-well done

      Hey Noel. Thanks so much for the kind words. I owned the 850...little bit squirrelly. Bigger flies better, and in this case A LOT better in every single way. The 1400 Pitts is one of my favorite airframes. Sold my 850 the day I flew this one...literally. lol.

      Hi Michael! Thanks for watching! Long answer here bud, sorry, but necessary to give you accurate info...so bare with me. Yes that is an HRB 6s 4000 60c we got from Amazon. I have been testing the HRB's for almost 2 years now. We have a ton of them at this point. I fly them in a number of scale/sport planes, 4s to 12s 3D planes, and 6s & 8s EDF's. I used Pulse and Thunder power in my high performance planes for years so the comparison is to them. A few caveats - I take very good care of my lipos...they are kept storage charged, only charged at 1c, never at full charge for more than a nights sleep (I may charge late the night before a morning flying session), and I never discharge them lower than 3.75/cell. My goal in testing is to fly my planes the same way I would with the batteries that cost twice as much, and to see if I can get more than half the charges/discharges (lifespan)out of a battery that is half the price. Anything over 50% of the charges/discharges I get with the Pulse...which are exactly twice the cost (I get 2 HRB's for the price of 1 Pulse) I figure I'm money ahead. At this point I have 7 of the HRB's past 50% of the number of charges/discharges I got out of the same Pulse packs. 4 of those well past...65% and still going strong...so way money ahead. I would say if you treat your lipos the way I do I highly recommend them. If you're the sort that likes to leave them fully charged for days or a week at a time, charges at high rates (2c, 3c, or more), and discharges lower than 3.75/cell they may not handle that kind of use like a more expensive pack would. So basically I don't expect them to last as long as a really expensive Pulse...although they may come close...the testing is still ongoing. I expect them to last more than half as long by some measure for half the cost. So far so good...getting my money's worth. Hope this helps my friend...happy flying!

      Just had a successful maiden flight this afternoon. What a sweetheart.
      While putting it together I replaced the esc with an 80 amp esc I had in the shop.
      Three flights and not a scratch.
      CG was spot on with a 5000 6s.
      Even got a compliment on the black paint inside the cowling.
      Next up is a 16x8 prop.
      A great day flying with much credit and appreciation for you and this video.

    am i wrong or does it even sound better with that prop?
