Maidened my 1400mm Pitts yesterday at our field in similar winds and had no problems. Used the v2 reflex primarily as handling was better with it on. Definitely nose heavy with 5200mAh packs but really can''t move them any more aft. Had 4 great flights with 7-8 min flight times (landed with an avg of 40% left in the packs).
I think back to years ago when I built a 1/3 scale Pilot Christen Eagle (which is the same size as the FMS Pitts) and powered by a ST3000 glow engine. Took months to build and cover. Flew OK but heavy. The kit alone for that CE was over $400 at the time, not even including all the other items needed to complete. Compared now to this FMS Pitts.....in less than 24hrs it was built and flown and the cost was only perhaps 20% of what I spent on the CE. Amazing. Just absolutely amazing.
Now...if FMS would do a Christen Eagle in full mulit-colored feathered regalia...wow...I'd snap that up in a heartbeat.

Great video. Had to have it. The gear handles my rough grass field just fine. Getting a safe 5 min with a 5k pack. It does favore the 3 pt landing. Added a dab of foam tac on those stab struts. kept popping off. If you carry it that way make sure throttle cut is on or disconnect battery .. Happened to me one time with a waco. Radio brushed up on my leg hitting the throttle stick. It pivoted and gashed my arm. 7 stitches.I have only used the reflex once on a very windy day. Otherwise it is Very stable without it. Best part about this plane is you can tame it down or go BTTW . Thanks.

Rich, that was awesome! Flying on a very windy day just shows how capable the plane is. It performed aerobatics inspite of the wind. I noticed at full throttle it didn't seem to care about the wind. If one we're to put a stabilizer in it, wow! It was relatively efficient. How long do you estimate the flight was? I can't wait for the next flight, it should be astounding to see. I love it's size. I want one in blue. I don't care for red, on anything, or at least that much red! I would still buy one regardless. *The Grand Passage Tomb.*
The Newgrange monument is located in Ireland and was constructed over fifty-two-hundred years ago, it defines the winter solstice and celebrates a rebirth of the Sun.
    "Let the Sunshine In."
This is a literal rebirth folks, there is no mysticism or magic here unless you bring it. This tomb outdates the Christians, the Romans, the Israelites, the Greeks, the Chinese and even maybe ancient Kemet. It was constructed before the pyramids on the Giza Plateau, before Stonehenge, and before the oldest city in the Americas, the Ancient Pyramid city of Caral Peru. Gods have been created and forgotten, Cultures have risen and fallen, and Empires have been built and destroyed.

Some owners in the RCgroup forum have reported that the landing gear for this plane is not particularly robust. Just wondering what are your thoughts on this? Also, I was curious if adding a gyro would make this bird more fun and easier to fly. Is there a reason why you don't ever use/ add a gyro to any of the rc planes you review?

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  Před 4 lety +2

The gear is pretty tough. It has a tough metal wire strut to support everything. A gyro or fight stabilizer will make anything easier to fly & ther eis nothing wrong with using them. I choose not to use them just because most airplanes do not need them. I like to fly without them so I can feel what the plane is dong. I mostly prefer to fly the plane myself instead of letting the automation do all the work:)

It had the 1700mm warbird’s 5060 360kV. The tiny 550 kV is also a major downgrade from Beaver V1 to V2. A 550KV is a .50 not a .90. The Beaver was also cost-cut. The 1400mm Pitts has 100+ of wing, it needs the 5060 360 kV and an 18x8E prop. Or a Xoar 18x6 for sound.
And all the cost cut micro servos of V2 have to go for safety. It needs 22g MG minimum, not 9.5g which are silly.

Thank you Steve for getting the birds as Rich was flying. Okay rich take a 3D acrobatic airplane hold it up in the air over your head and say to the birds, hey birds yo birds, I'm the hot dog in the air me ..prove me wrong. After I said prove me wrong I threw the airplane in the air started doing the tricks what not 30 seconds into the flight two birds at a quarter of my eye flap their wings a little bit, and then while coasting in air they put their feet out as if they were sitting on the fence they did this until they got into the field of my vision both birds simultaneously did a barrel roll and looked at me with hey we are proving you wrong type of a look, and went back to flap their wings a little bit put them away put the feet out and then flap the wings a little bit all the way to the tree and chirped and sang and ice clap my hands with a big smile on my face and said holy s*** and at that time that's what I noticed my plane almost nose diving into the ground I saved it at the last minute.. holy s*** no joke please speak out to them, I'm telling you rich no joke!! And if they look like they are going to attack your plane you will plainly see this please say out loud please do not harm me I mean you no harm. They know what we are saying all the Little critters mjb... 15x9 propeller that is a big girl maybe one of these days I kind of gave up flying for right now cuz I just nose to have the flash into the ground.. on the second flight I threw it and see just went upside down I didn't have time to correct a prick and nose end of the ground I was pissed and I haven't flown since it's been about 2 weeks...

I don't trust those slide in battery trays ...looks like they could come unclipped easily

I have never had one slip. however, you could design a blocker of sorts behind the battery to keep it from coming back. There are many ways to do that.

You don’t trust it because it looks like it? How about trusting the thousands of people flying those trays with no issues 😆

@@ManAndMachine23 yea I would have to see it for myself before trusting it

Please wait for a calmer day to maiden a new plane. I was looking forward to your flight review, but the wind made it a bad review of how the plane does aerobatics.

Yes, I indicate that in the video... However, so that you understand the context it everything. We drive about 40 minutes to this flying location. I can either film a windy day flight or nothing:) I prefer a calm day so that I can give a better demo but mother nature does not always work with us. keep in mind that this airplane has no gyro of anykind in it and it can handle the wind quite nicely... Stay tuned and we will film it again on a better day:)
