Personally liked the 2015-2016 spurs team better, Aldridge was integrated beautifully and he wasn't exposed on defense cos 40 yr old Duncan was still so effective in the paint. Manu TP9 were aging but stll contributed. But the biggest factor (other than LaMarcus) was Kawhi's emergence as a superstar, dude lit the league cos he's so good both ways. 2014 team was fantastic, but 2015-2016 could've won a chip any other year (OKC series was reallly close, and GSW was having a once in a lifetime season)

That was literally the finest basketball i have ever seen and the best passing i have ever seen, and the best display of teamwork i have ever seen. It was mostly just being in the zone. and you can tell that was the reason because the next year they tapered off quite a bit. it was because the year before they lost to the heat barely and it really really really stung them. there is like a whole documentary on it i seen before.

In my opinion duncan should be in the goat conversation. if the difference between kobe , lebron, and jordan is miniscule than (duncans leadership) being able to make all the other 12 players on your team minuscule better. to keep it simple look at it like this. kobe avg 27 points per game, tim duncan 23. a difference of 4 points. but duncan makes everyone on his team score 2 extra points where kobes teamates only score 1 extra point ( if that he was a poor leader imo) then thats +12 points to kobes 27 for a total of 39 and plus 24 to duncans 23 for a total of 45

Yeah they had Duncan, Ginobili, Parker and pop during this period, but Boris Diaw role on the team during this period i think is underrated. He could pass and make plays better than a lot point guards in the league at the time, his natural game was this pass, move, cut style.

The NBA promotes superstars like Jordan and Lebron as they rake in revenue from clothing and shoes (like a lot of $$$) The spurs didn't do that for them so they are not mentioned and promoted quite as much. This team won the finals by 70 points...that's 70 point differential! ... Before that they beat Portland by 67 and Oklahoma City(with Durant, Westbrook, Ibaka and Adams by a point differential of 63. This is beyond amazing. These point differences tell the story of this team more than regular stats.
I've been a Lakers fan when they got Shaq (1996-2004) and now a Warriors fan since 2010... Always, San Antonio Spurs were the main problem to face for my team ;) Have nothing but respect for these guys, thanks to them, NBA is worth watching.
I think Tiago Splitter was very underrated part of that Spurs team. He was a good rebounder , paint presence and could pass just as well as Bogut when he was on the W's.
Splitter was a huge part of the 2014 championship run I agree he's very underrated. He was a terrible rebounder, however. He was an incredible defender, great hands and great passer (way better than Bogut), was crafty around the rim, and was exceptional on the PnR.

There was the Showtime from the Lakers and their superstars leaded by Magic. The 80s Celtics were strong as hell being able to attack defend against any given team and/or superstar. There was the 94 Knicks which were (in my opinion) one of the greatest defense ever created. The Bulls during the second three peat were the same as the 80s Celtics : dominant in offense, strong in defense, well balanced between the two sides etc... The lakers of early 2000 decade were dominant, mostly thanks to Shaq inside and the young Kobe. The Heat of early 2010 were incredible through their capacity of playing high quality and clever defense and good offense through their superstars. The Warriors of 2016 (for the regular season) and 2017 were so dominant, defensively and offensively with their ability to play small ball, shoot 3s consistently etc... But the 2014 Spurs were the "first" time in history we saw a team being so selfless, able to create better chance of shoots each and every possession only by moving the ball. Whenever it was hard, the previously cited teams would get the ball to their go-to guy and go away (KAJ, Bird or Parish, MJ, Kobe or Shaq, Lebron or Wade, KD or Steph etc...). So in a way, it was the first ever team to play full team-basketball and at a high level or consistency and IQ. So I understand why some people say they are the best "team" since all great teams from history are addition of great players without real heart (i'm not saying Duncan, Ginobili, Parker or Kawhi are not great players ^^). PS : Celtics 88 are not the best Celtics team in my eyes, I prefer the 86 one :)
Watching the Spurs throughout the 13-14 season is one of the most enjoyable basketball I've seen in all the years I've been watching the NBA. The basketball was beautiful, and the storyline was straight out of Hollywood. A season and team for the ages.
Never forget how close the Mavs were to beating us that year in 7 games. Vince carter buzzer beater still haunts me. No one talks about how mavs were the only threat to (SA) in 2014. Monta Ellis played us so so well

Not a spurs fan, but passing through. IMO teams don't emulate this because it would hurt production for some players on the stat sheet leading to smaller future contracts. EVERY player has to buy in for this to work. I firmly believe the Spurs pulled this off because 2013 loss in the finals broke them. Every player on that roster was willing to sacrifice anything and everything to win it all.
I think it's just about unanimous at this point that Pop is by far the best coach. He gets along great with his players and makes just about any player in the league buy into his system. One of the greatest coaches of all time.
Frank Hernandez put Kawhi on MJ, force him to shoot fade away and mid range. Manu might be undersized for Pippen, but Tony Parker and TD would be unstoppable for Bulls.
Anyone against the Spurs would be difficult. They were on route of beating the Super Team Warriors without Tim Duncan in Game 1 but they're getting old and hurt unfortunately
Yeah, they're so underrated because they don't have two star players. I don't know if kawhi could lock down Jordan... maybe. We'll never know. That one matchup would decide the game, so it'd be hard to know for sure. Manu couldn't take pippen, unfortunately. Rodman on Duncan would result in rodman getting his ass eaten. Rodman is a great defender, but Duncan's post play is brutal. We'll never know for sure, and even tho I've been a bulls fan for life, the spurs are incredible.

I love the celebration - Although some say most NBA teams over celebrate, they shouldn't say that. Do you know how many games they have to win, how many hours of work and running and absolutely pushing yourself over the limit they do?
I agree...if I coached, one of my first principles would be to tell my guys to savor every win. If you enjoy the process of winning, you'll want to do it repeatedly. It will give you the drive to play through pain, to endure a 10-day road trip, to keep playing when down by 15.
This is what the Spurs need to go back to, this is what has made them championship contenders and the most successful organization of any sport for the last 20 years straight. I hope seeing how dismantled they became when Kawhi went down in game one of the WCF against the Warriors was a wake up call on how they went from the system to a one man team. I have watched the Spurs for decades and have never seen it where if one man goes down then so does the whole team, not even with the big 3 at their prime. I really hope they go back to this kind of basketball, no more just relying in one man to carry them. That's not the Spurs I know, even with the greatest power forward to play the game in Tim Duncan.

I truly think this is basketball nirvana. Rewatching the 2014 finals is watching how basketball has been taken to its peak. I have never seen a team so thoroughly undressed like the Heat. I really truly think they achieved basketball perfection and took James Nasmith's beautiful game to it's finest. This team has no true star yet flows in a mesmerizing rhythm comparable to Guardiola's Barcelona. Art at it's finest.
Man. The late spurs along with the heat produced my favorite era of basketball. I'm Only 23 but something tells me ill never see better ball, or better competition in the NBA again. Certainly not any time soon with the warriors.
I know it's a small thing, but something you love in a team mate is what Duncan did at 1:56. That's the exact person I would want on my team, not an intstigator, but someone who cares about you enough to pull you out straight away.
I grew up hating the Spurs, I thought they were a boring team in the era of Kobe & Shaq's Lakers. But as I've matured and grown to appreciate the strategy of the game, I find myself rooting for the Spurs in the West. Kawhi Leonard is such an understated hero of the game, and Pops has done more with less star power than any coach I've ever seen. Long live the extra pass.
All I can do is reminisce of the great times of watching my Spurs play... never will it be the same again. I'm glad to have lived and see the Spurs play with Tim, Manu, and Tony. GO SPURS GO!!!

This team set the standard for how the current era of baseball should be played, every time a new world champion team is declared the rest of the league changes subtly to mirror the success of the league champs. This Spurs team has the record at winning the finals by 70 points...the Warriors best team won at their best by 60 points(2nd best). so yes....the 2014 Spurs would most likely have beaten the 2017 Warriors with Durant by a few points per game maybe around 6 pts. And both times both teams happened to play against a team with Lebron on it. Lebron said twice that 2014 Spurs were the best team he ever played against and the second time he said that was after the 2017 finals.
Cain Shin It's because Kawhi was shaped into the ultimate Spur. A two-way forward capable of lockdown D and unstoppable scoring. He is an excellent team player and all around reliability makes him a perfect player to surround with decent roleplayers.

So in a way, it was the first ever team to play full team-basketball and at a high level or consistency and IQ.
So I understand why some people say they are the best "team" since all great teams from history are addition of great players without real heart (i'm not saying Duncan, Ginobili, Parker or Kawhi are not great players ^^).
PS : Celtics 88 are not the best Celtics team in my eyes, I prefer the 86 one :)

Watching the Spurs throughout the 13-14 season is one of the most enjoyable basketball I've seen in all the years I've been watching the NBA. The basketball was beautiful, and the storyline was straight out of Hollywood. A season and team for the ages.

Not a spurs fan, but passing through. IMO teams don't emulate this because it would hurt production for some players on the stat sheet leading to smaller future contracts. EVERY player has to buy in for this to work. I firmly believe the Spurs pulled this off because 2013 loss in the finals broke them. Every player on that roster was willing to sacrifice anything and everything to win it all.

Rodman on Duncan would result in rodman getting his ass eaten. Rodman is a great defender, but Duncan's post play is brutal.

I agree...if I coached, one of my first principles would be to tell my guys to savor every win. If you enjoy the process of winning, you'll want to do it repeatedly. It will give you the drive to play through pain, to endure a 10-day road trip, to keep playing when down by 15.

This is what the Spurs need to go back to, this is what has made them championship contenders and the most successful organization of any sport for the last 20 years straight. I hope seeing how dismantled they became when Kawhi went down in game one of the WCF against the Warriors was a wake up call on how they went from the system to a one man team. I have watched the Spurs for decades and have never seen it where if one man goes down then so does the whole team, not even with the big 3 at their prime. I really hope they go back to this kind of basketball, no more just relying in one man to carry them. That's not the Spurs I know, even with the greatest power forward to play the game in Tim Duncan.

I truly think this is basketball nirvana. Rewatching the 2014 finals is watching how basketball has been taken to its peak. I have never seen a team so thoroughly undressed like the Heat. I really truly think they achieved basketball perfection and took James Nasmith's beautiful game to it's finest. This team has no true star yet flows in a mesmerizing rhythm comparable to Guardiola's Barcelona. Art at it's finest.

I grew up hating the Spurs, I thought they were a boring team in the era of Kobe & Shaq's Lakers. But as I've matured and grown to appreciate the strategy of the game, I find myself rooting for the Spurs in the West. Kawhi Leonard is such an understated hero of the game, and Pops has done more with less star power than any coach I've ever seen. Long live the extra pass.
All I can do is reminisce of the great times of watching my Spurs play... never will it be the same again. I'm glad to have lived and see the Spurs play with Tim, Manu, and Tony. GO SPURS GO!!!

This Spurs team has the record at winning the finals by 70 points...the Warriors best team won at their best by 60 points(2nd best). so yes....the 2014 Spurs would most likely have beaten the 2017 Warriors with Durant by a few points per game maybe around 6 pts. And both times both teams happened to play against a team with Lebron on it. Lebron said twice that 2014 Spurs were the best team he ever played against and the second time he said that was after the 2017 finals.
