    Seeing the blue design immediately makes me think of a Sonic the Hedgehog. And seeing the great scales me me think it would be a much simpler way to spoof chain mail or over lapping plate mail. Remember the British soldiers mail shirts in Braveheart?

    Uncle Jessy Thank you so much for the giving me credit on my design. I use Cura { Extensions > Post Processing > Modify G-Code (Add a script) Pause at height}. Also cheap stiff Tulle has had strength issues. Nylon based mesh has been working well for me.

    It’s fun and i prefer a stretch mesh because it’s a stronger fabric plus stretch, and people have had success with organza. Also tulle is read as “tool” 👍

    • @NerdGirlReview
      @NerdGirlReview Před 6 lety

      There are also fashion instagram pages that have been making both entirely tpe garments and been printing onto tulle for years. The only think I haven’t figured out is continuing the repeat and shifting on the bed without 1) blocking the axis and 2) keeping the repeat/ print aligned especially with a large amount of fabric.
      The one gal who is making tpe bomber jackets is having a company print them I’d guess their print bed is big enough to just print each piece

    for reference this code tells it to stop before printing layer X (so if you want it to print 2 layers then stop, X would be 3) it can also be easily altered to not only move x,y to 0,0, but you can also choose a value for z to get the print head to lift as well. you could also choose a value like 300 for Y (on the CR10) to make the bed more accessible. just be careful not to move anything.

  • @jamespray

    Hey, wait -- forget cosplay for a second and consider that you're basically adding nylon fiber infill to a PLA print. What would it do for raw part strength to do this multiple times for a single part, especially focusing on getting it into layers near the top and bottom, and even more especially with a less-flexible material than nylon?

    • @UncleJessy
      @UncleJessy  Před 6 lety +6

      That could be very interesting. Might be less flexible but provide more strength. I know people will sometimes back their prints with fiberglass. Could be interesting way to try and strengthen the print

    • @NeoIsrafil
      @NeoIsrafil Před 4 lety

      Theres Kevlar filled filament already, maybe similar.

    • @jamespray
      @jamespray Před 4 lety

      @@NeoIsrafil The fibers in impregnated filaments have to be short, and generally won't bridge between each line extruded from the nozzle. This is about laying continuous fibers all the way across the part -- fundamentally different, though not as convenient :)

  • @catl7091
    @catl7091 Před 6 lety +1

    I see people suggesting using chiffon and other sturdier fabrics, but those are usually more expensive. For lower budgets, the tulle like he’s using would work, and you could then reinforce the edges with interfacing scraps, twill tape, sturdier fabric scraps, etc, before sewing the tulle over another fabric. Of course, if you want this to last for multiple wears over a long period of time I would suggest trying to have a larger budget for any type of project that would require this technique.

    @leonply Před 6 lety +6

    Great video! Have you tried this technique using power net, which stretches, as well as using tulle (pronounced TOOL), which does not stretch, to compare the end products in a finished costume? The power net-backed product would tend to mold much more easily to the body, as well as allowing easier movement when worn.

    Insert little titanium hexagons in between the hexagonal pieces and you'll have a great bulletproof fabric.
    (But good luck cutting the titanium)

    Hey, Uncle Jessy! I was looking through MyMiniFactory and found "Sauron Armor - Helmet". I think that would be a great video to do sometime!

    K, I was just thinking, what if you could figure out how to print on the fabric using the printer with the conveyor belt BUT you have the fabric roll on a bracket before the belt.That way as the belt moves it pulls more fabric, prints on it, then if you hang it on the wall you could literally print yards of scale armor. I don't have a printer to test the idea but I know that one of the main issues will be that you need a layer of plastic on the bottom first then the cloth then the rest of the print. Maybe there is another way.

    what I want to know is how well this would work using a less delicate mesh like what is for some sports jerseys

    Quick question. Will I need to remove a layer from the print in order to accommodate the fabric, or is the fabric thin enough that it will not make a difference?

    This seems like a high risk play? like has a chance of ruining the print? what if the nylon knocks the print off course ? Seems like it would be easier to just hot glue the finished print to the nylon once its done?

    Awesome!!!!!!..... I cannot wait to test this out. Quick question, can you make a video based off your settings that you use when printing a Cawl ?????
    Also, when I seen the blue scales I immediately thought of Sonic!!... You could also do a dragon ball Z characters hair
